When I arrived, the person working there said they haven't done photo cakes in years. He said that he could not fulfill the order but that he also couldn't refund me since it was made through the website. I have now spent nearly a month trying to get a refund from both this franchise owner and Baskin Robbin's customer service. I honestly didn't even think this place was open when I walked up. The first thing the guy said was that they have no cones. The toppings looked stale in murky Tupperware containers. Whatever. This was supposed to be a special trip for my daughter but I'm immediately wanting to bolt. But we're here, let's just get scoops and walk to the beach. Let's just say the scoops didn't fill the cups and I'd call it more of a curl of ice cream than a full scoop. My scoop was Jamoaca. I've been getting that flavor since I was a kid. Today it tasted icy and stale. To top that off, there were bits of lime sorbet in there. I only know that because I accidentally had a bite of it and it was really gross with my coffee flavored ice cream. My kids go to school just a block away from this place. The good news is that my daughter was so underwhelmed that she won't even bother asking to go back here again. And I can say that this is the first time we've had Ice cream without her brother where she didn't immediately report to him that we did. I didn't say anything about all the disappointment I felt over this experience to my daughter. This ice cream shop is so subpar they even disappointed an 8 year old. That takes effort! We happened to be in La Jolla this afternoon and my wife wanted some ice cream. We stopped at this Baskin Robbins and we're shocked at the lack of cleanliness. There was accumulated dust/dirt on the floor in the corner where we sat. The ceiling fan just above looked as if it had never been cleaned in years. It was caked with at least half an inch of dirt and grime. Thankfully it wasn't on to discharge that crap onto customers or there ice cream. The shop was warmer inside than outside an it was in the mid to upper 70's outside. Our ice cream was melting before we could even sit down. After the poor customer service, dirty establishment, and meh flavors I went from went from ice cream mode to I scream mode. When we walked in there was a family of 5, another woman ahead of us, and two employees taking orders. I noticed both employees failed to greet the customers. You'd think being surrounded by ice scream some of its sweetness would rub onto them but they were both very bland and it was hard to hear them as they spoke very softly. In addition, the whole paying process was a mess, both employees had been taking orders but I guess no one was in charge of charging people so after ordering, I moved on over to pay and was getting ready to pay but the girl at the counter who had taken my order called over the family of 5 who had been served by the other employee and I had to step to the side. After I paid, didn't get a have a nice day or anything. Was going to sit inside but noticed tables were dirty with ice scream droplets so just went outside. Ice cream-wise the chocolate mousse was good but the pineapple coconut was too sweet - I initially wanted chocolate chip but they only had the one with cookie dough and the one that was labeled chocolate chip was actually cookies and cream. I've had great service at this Baskin Robbins location. Recently, I popped in for the customer appreciation days where they had $1, $2, and $3 specials. It wasn't crowded at all and the teens working there were polite and professional. They offered me samples and rang me up quickly. The parking lot is very small, but I haven't had any problems finding a spot and haven't encountered any long lines. Prices are higher, but I only go to BR when I have a coupon or they have a special going on. Didn't think it was possible to mess up customer service at an ice cream shop but here we are! Young lady working there on St. Patrick's Day at 3pm provided very poor service. Stared at customers until they approached and then would start doing other tasks once they did, she would scoop for one customer tell them to wait, and ring up another, and continued that unorganized and inefficient cycle making everyone very confused. Went there today for a brownie sunday. Once we got there, I had to use the restroom. While there was none there, the girl told me the closest one was across the street at the gas station. I refuse to go into a gas station bathroom. I went nextdoor and asked the liquor store owner if there was a bathroom and she gave me the key to the one in the little strip mall where all this is located. Meanwhile, the husband ordered the sunday. When I came back from the restroom, same girl at BR had made the sunday. Who puts ice cream, then brownies on top of that, then toppings?? It was the most bizarre brownie sunday I'd ever had. Everyone knows that it's brownies first, THEN ice cream on top, THEN toppings (hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, cherry). THAT is a brownie sunday. All the ice cream was melted in a soup at the bottom and it was just ridiculous. I ate it anyhow but sheesh. Is it so much to ask to have a proper brownie sunday?? I took the fam along with me this past Tuesday night and we were outta there for less than 5$. It's been years since I have had an ice cream cone...gosh, it was so d'lish.
