In hindsight, I should have just ordered the standard Royal Reese's. No complaints on the cookie dough blizzard though! I really like this DQ location because they have the most comprehensive menu I've ever seen. You may not be able to tell from the picture I have included, but this location has just about every possible blizzard you can think of! The service was great, and there is a very warm, nostalgic vibe in this store :)

I love Dairy Queen. Growing up in Iowa it was always a summertime treat, but now that I've moved…read moreto California they are hard to come by. Now whenever I return to Iowa I can't pass by a DQ without stopping in. This past summer, as we were taking the slow road from Iowa City up to Shueyville, we spotted this place. It's located in odd little strip mall that's constructed to look more like apartments than businesses. We walked past the dog that was enjoying the remains of a shake on the sidewalk as a little girl wept nearby and entered the establishment. This DQ had everything you'd expect and want - Blizzards, Dilly Bars, banana splits, dipped cones, Peanut Buster Parfaits, etc. They also had a hot food menu with the typical stuff as well - burgers, chili dogs, chicken strips, fries, lumpia... I'm sorry, what was that last item? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Dairy Queen in the Beaver Kreek Center in North Liberty, Iowa serves lumpia. How could we not try it? With a name like "Yolly's world famous homemade lumpia", you'd be nuts to pass it up, especially at $2.75 for 3. It's too bad we had literally just finished a pretty sizable lunch otherwise we might have gotten more than just one order. There are chicken, pork, vegetable, and cream cheese lumpia available. We ordered the pork. Folks, this stuff is legit. They were fried up fresh and came out piping hot. Wonderfully crisp skin, generous in size - we absolutely loved them. We took one back to my mom and mentioned Yolly's name - it turns out they know each other from the distant past when they used to attend the same picnics. Definitely worth the trip. Oh, and the ice cream is really good too.

The dishes are all usually well-prepared, especially the sushi, and cooked/made to order. On one occasion the steak hibachi was overdone but the other time it was fine... Service is great here, very friendly and upbeat (even in spite of being short staffed)...and the environment is easygoing and chill (you won't feel rushed)... Parking is plentiful, and it does get very busy on the weekends. You can make reservations for larger groups (over 5 people, I think). Definitely give this place a try, if in the area! If you're not in the mood for a lot of food, you can also just order off the menu...you will still get very generous portions!

I ordered a jalapeño cream cheese roll that unfortunately was completely overpowered by onions -- it drowned out the other flavors. I also tried a roll with a wasabi honey sauce that just didn't work for me at all; the sweetness and wasabi combination tasted off and kind of unpleasant. The other rolls weren't bad, but they felt like they were missing some texture -- a bit of crunch would have made a big difference. That said, the ingredients seemed fresh and the presentation was nice. I'd consider giving it another try and ordering differently next time.

In fact, this restaurant holds a special place in my wife and I's hearts as it was the location of our first date. During our most recent visit to Tin Roost, we ordered the pork tenderloin with broccoli (7.9/10) and a burger with fries (7.5/10)! We also ordered one of a few ciders that Tin Roost was offering on tap. Honestly, the food is pretty middle of the pack. The star of the show was surprisingly the roasted broccoli side. The service and ambiance was stellar during our visit. There are tons of seating options from bar side, high tops, booths, tables, and a big patio. Would highly recommend giving Tin Roost a try if you've never been!

We got the double smash burger and added an egg - it was amazing. Seriously a great burger (would probably get without egg in the future). We also got the tater tot skillet, which was also good. We also got a burrito (not pictured) it comes drenched in queso and is kind of hard to eat, in the future will probably ask for the queso on the side. Portions are large. I am always a bit shocked at the price at the end of the meal, it is pretty expensive. I also don't like that you never get to see your itemized bill, the server uses the mobile payment machines and all you see is the overall total on the screen. Besides the cost, the food is good and there are lots of large table options for friend groups. There is also a lot of parking onsite.
