I have ups and downs with the Neurology at the UW Hospital. It's a Level 4 Epilepsy hospital (I…read morethink one of only 3 in WI) so the equipment is top notch and the doctors are very well-trained and extremely knowledgeable, so you really can't beat that. The issue is the ratio of patients to doctors is so oversaturated that it's tough to get 100% of the care you need and pretty tough to get an appointment -sometimes 4-6 months. Most end up being virtual video appointments in order to get through the long line, but it can be a nice option if you live further. The scheduling team is definitely on-the-ball calling patients on the cancelation list. If you catch the call right away you can probably get a sooner appointment! The Neurology team is relatively fast at replying to MyChart messages, which is awesome! If something is really pressing and you're willing to wait on hold, you may be able to reach a nurse via phone too. I give them 4 stars though because if you stress that things are really starting to effect the quality of life; the doctors are quick to order MRIs, PETs and studies. I did a 6 day stay in the EMU and the care of the attending doctors, RNs, MAs, PAs and techs was nothing short phenomenal. The EMU is a pretty miserable place but the teamwork, communication and care was fantastic. Top-notch equipment. Lovely room. Really great food, everything can be ordered in advance via an iPad. I've worked with Dr. Felton, Dr. Gardon, Dr Laquer and Therese Aschkenase NP. All in all, there are big pros and cons to UW Neurology but it's the best care you're going to find as long as you're patient for appointments!

Got appointment after 4 months only to receive call that, you guessed it, my procedure was rescheduled due to "emergency surgery". It was going to take 5 months to find out if I have brain aneurysm and god knows how long to fix it if it is. In the mean time I cannot go on the kidney transplant list live until this is resolved. To much of a large institution to care about the patient.

The dermatologist removed the basal cell and then I went to the SSM Aesthetic center so the plastic surgeon could close the site. I expected skilled care and a good outcome. Unfortunately, my experience was far from that. The procedure left me with unnecessary scarring and complications. I sent photos of the botched site and returned to the surgeon's office in fall 2024 seeking advice. They recommended a scar revision with a different plastic surgeon. That appointment was scheduled for late February 2025. I went to the appointment. After waiting 45 minutes, I had to leave. I was told at the scheduling desk that this surgeon often double books. If I wanted to reschedule, the next available appointment would be in May. I typically don't leave reviews, but people deserve to know what kind of experience and outcome they might expect. I regret choosing this practice for such an important procedure, especially on my face. If you are considering Mohs surgery, I strongly recommend researching other doctors who have a proven track record of excellent results and compassionate patient care. You might want to avoid SSM Health's plastic surgeons.

I have an autoimmune disorder with symptoms of joint inflammation and pain. My goal when first meeting Dr. Puckette was to find a way to cope and heal from this autoimmune condition without having to go on prescription medication. The side of the Rx meds are scary. I've always managed my pain with OTC Ibuprofen or Aleve. But prior to meeting him, these OTC meds weren't enough to keep the pain managed. I knew that I wanted to find the root cause of why I'm in pain, and not just have a band aid fix.  I've since learned various foods were triggers to my joints becoming painful and inflammed. Within the first 3 to 4 months of working with Dr. Puckette I was able to develop my own personal diet which helps keep the inflammation down in my body. I learned what it feels like if I eat something I'm not suppose to eat (pain and inflammation return). My energy has increased while fatigue has decreased. I'm sleeping through the night almost every night (insomnia one night per month currently). I used to have insomnia about 5 of 7 nights a week. I've also learned what emotional and environmental exposures trigger inflammation. Dr. Puckette understands that we're human, we're emotional, food also is/can be emotional. As humans we make mistakes, but he stresses that these are learning opportunities to understand your own body's limits.  I've been taking the supplements he recommends and have reduced my Ibuprofen/Aleve intake to about 4 doses per week as opposed to 21 doses per week. I've noticed my digestion has increased tremendously and my body is becoming more efficient in processing nutrients. My brain is healing and I'm becoming more confident and sharper at thinking/memory/recall.  It has been a long journey, healing takes time.  It has been well worth it to avoid needing to be put on any Rx medication for pain or autoimmune conditions. My body is actually healing, naturally. This is such a small overview of the things I've learned. I highly recommend Dr. Puckette if you're looking for a way to heal naturally. Dr. Puckette is intelligent and has a passion for what he does. He celebrates your success with you and helps you through the difficult times. He has always been honest and upfront about his abilities in working with me and I greatly appreciate that.
