Very disappointed. Went to Basil's at 5:30 on Friday night. Nobody's in there and yet they are basically out of chicken and ribs unless you want to wait a half hour. All I needed was one slab of ribs and two whole chickens. Did not think I needed to pre-order that. read more

If you're going to Basil's, go for one reason: the chicken. The atmosphere is pretty basic, nothing fancy or memorable, but it gets the job done if you're just looking for a good meal. Menu prices are fair, and portions are straightforward. With the two-piece, you'll get a thigh and a leg; the three-piece adds a wing. The sides? They're okay. Tasty enough, but clearly not the star of the show. You'll get maybe a couple ounces, so don't come expecting a full Southern spread. Now back to that chicken...this is where Basil's shines. The grilled flavor is authentic and absolutely delicious. Skip the barbecue sauce...it actually takes away from the flavor instead of adding to it. Trust what they're doing with the seasoning and grilling. You won't regret it. All in all, if you're craving some solid grilled chicken, Basil's is worth a stop. Just don't expect atmosphere or gourmet sides. It's all about that perfectly seasoned chicken. read more

Been eating at Basil's since 2012! I work at the restaurant down from them and I've had lunch and dinner here more times than I can count. Delicious and consistent. My favorites are a gyro on pita and the south of the border wrap with a side of mashed potatoes. Basil's is a chicken joint but you gotta get the gyro at least once, trust, it's so good. The gyro and south of the border are packed with meat and veg too. They don't skimp on the stuffing. The baklava isn't too sweet and very flaky. The owners and all the workers are so nice. Love supporting this local, family-run business. read more

I used to live near Basil's and ordered from there often. I hadn't ordered in a long time and actually forgot about them! We ordered a few days ago and we were so pleased that they were as good..or better than ever. We all had chicken..juicy, and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were a bit soft but delicious. Well be ordering more often! The ambiance is so-so. Well continue to take out. Thus 5 stars. read more

Pretty good I arrived for lunch not long after they opened and started looking over their overhead menu board. Just before it was my turn to order one of the staff put the finishing touches on a white board of new menu items and propped it up next to me. The first item immediately caught my attention, Chicken Pot Pie, and that's what I got. I asked about their popular side items and selected their coleslaw, which I was told has small pieces of pineapple. The pot pie was pretty good, shredded chicken and vegetables in a watery sauce or broth. While the dish wasn't a standout, I appreciated being able to get something that wasn't just pieces of chicken plus stuff. I very much liked the slaw, the pineapple gave it that sweet tropical flavor. read more

Had the Gyro, all the reviews were good. Nothing special, no flavor other than onions. Sauce had no cucumber flavor or cukes in it. Diced tomatoes tasted frozen. Meat meh, not much flavor. Not sure how this got to be a popular sandwich here, maybe at one time it was, definitely not today! read more

So sad. Ordered to go a 2 piece white meat chicken with 2 sides. Double broccoli for sides. Got home, opened it up. There was hardly any broccoli and it was just cut up broccoli stalks. And only one small 1/2 chicken breast. The total came to $15.65. With the two dollar tip... Not knowing what I was getting. Won't be back total rip off food was about a three out of a 10. read more

I have been eating here since the 90's and it has always been a go to for me when I want to pick up a light meal. The last 3 times I have gone the food quality has gone way down hill. This last time I vowed I would never spend my money there again. The chicken dinner I bought was obviously at least a day old and microwaved. The restaurant is really dirty and nothing like the Basil's in Bradenton. It makes me really sad to see a business fall so hard. read more

We enjoyed going here. Great price and pretty good food. The people that work there very kind. Very surprising they don't have french fries, burgers, sandwiches, etc. they have a very basic menu but pretty good. read more

I've never gotten my takeaway orders exactly as I ordered them. Not once! I only order dark meat- 2 thighs. That's all I want. 2 lousy thighs. NOT a wing! NOT a half breast! Is there a shortage of thighs I don't know about? read more

As a native of Chicago my wife and I fully appreciate it the authenticity of this Greek-inspired place (owner is also from Chicago). I didn't read any of the negative reviews but has a pretty discerning foodie I can't see why it currently has three stars. The grilled chicken thighs and legs, as well as the coleslaw and potato salad were all fantastic, and properly flavored. read more

Excellent food, amazing service, highly recommend the gyro and chicken. I've honestly never had a bad meal here.

We ordered take out and the food was decent. Not great, not bad, just ok. The grilled chicken was dry for our liking which was unfortunate so it put the focus on the sides to pull through. Again, the sides were just ok and didn't make up foe the dry chicken. If i am back in the area I would give it another shot and dine in to see if the food is any better and would also switch up my order. read more

Quality is not worth the money. My husband and I ordered a half slab of ribs and two piece chicken dinner. The ribs were very small, and doubtful that it was a half slab chicken was completely dry and had no flavor. The mac & cheese was good but the Greek salad was drenched and water and very soggy. The best part of dinner was pita bread and Taziki sauce that I had to pay extra for. read more

Very bland, when not dry, then undercook chicken. Their sides are ok

11/17/2022 I had eaten here once before for lunch and was very pleased, so I went back today which is a month later than my previous visit, and ordered the same thing. The chicken soup smelled horribly old.. The chicken thighs tasted old as well. The salad and rice were tasty but the rice was cold. I called to tell the little girl/young woman who worked the register and took my order my thinking the chicken was not proper for customers, not to ask for a refund but to let her know something was very wrong and they should have a taste themselves, just so they know. It is possible to have an off day. She wished to argue with me but I would have none of her ridiculous excuses of how I must be wrong about my thoughts and opinions. Really??!! The little girl/young woman, whom I believe is a relative of the owner, did not seem to care that I was offering her information that might be helpful. She was obstinate and wished to argue that I'm the only one who had complained today.. I said this could be just a one-off...towards the end of their night with food and when I walked in. She should be gracious as she is a representative of the store, an employee of the company if she wishes to have repeat customers and not argue with them as though they, the customers are liars. Instead, it would make a good business practice to provide customers with q gracious thank you for letting us know and I will check into it immediately. I have no reason to lie to her. I will not be back. The chicken smelled like it was old and freezer burned. Perhaps many of you know that smell. I was just sharing information with her because I initially like the place very much and wish them well and still wish them well.. Perhaps sometimes the customer may be and are right this time. Just check and verify. The restaurant food is hit or miss for me after today, so I won't take the chance of wasting money again. Good luck with the way customer service handles complaints. There are 3 other Basil's I believe. I've been to them all. They are consistent with their food and the service is always on point. Their gyro is always a good size and their sides are also generous. Bottom line: you can't beat their chicken and gyros. Stop in and have a good meal. You won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing chicken and gyro. Been going here for a while now. Jose makes the best chicken. Rice and beans are my go to sides.

Great chicken, ribs, gyros and sides. Healthy place to eat. Better than any fast food joint.

The chicken is the best ever. Get the half bird dinner. My problem is that each time I come her I can smell the bathrooms half through the place. They need to get rid of the strong deodorizer cakes, clean them good and put in newer, more subtle deodorizers. I make a point to sit on the far north side. read more

Basil's Flame Broiled Chicken - American Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

Okay, an update, fwiw, on my most recent visit to Basil's ...store at the corner of McIntosh and Bee Ridge Sarasota. I haven't been getting out much to restaurants,, just haven't felt like it with all the disease issues flying around and I'm not talkin just covid 19 or its variants. All I wanted to do waz go out and get a cup of coffee, and my wife talked me into going over to Basil's. Ordered the typical chicken dinner ...with a couple extra pieces of chicken. Thing is, the people in front of us had a huge order for takeout ....took like 20 - 25 minutes...ok no problem. I thought I would be next in line and that would be that. Waited, waited, waited,.... what's going on? What's going on is they're filling orders for takeout call ins and app deals..without enough personnel to manage the orders.... and completely ignoring the dining room. Anyway, when they finally got to me I just said throw it in the bag I'll take it home like everybody else. I guess we're at the point where no one wants to go out and enjoy a meal with a dining room experience. With that, people are paying a food premium for a dining room experience and having the food delivered home....? Have your chicken delivered from Publix it's cheaper. All in all, it may be a better business model for them to adopt to full take out and find real estate where they can have a drive up. They've always had takeout it just seems that it's more intense.... where the dining room always seem to be first. The rest of the story goes... I took the food home and the extra chicken that I paid for wasn't in the bag.... I guess you have to expect that with takeout. Drove back to the store for a refund ...they couldn't do the refund on the computer register to my credit card... they gave me the missing chicken and off I went ...sometimes it's just not in the atmosphere to enjoy. Now I'm venting here my experience..fwiw. One additional thing that has changed with the employees. The guy who serves up the food used to wear a hairnet ...he's got long hair to his shoulders. This is probably my real problem with the whole experience... the employees do not seem to exhibit care anymore.... especially with what's happening. I guess I'll have to chalk it all up to the signs of the times... takeout ...is taking over. Things have surely changed since covid I'm not just finding this problem with Basil's but other establishments as well. Mike read more

Delicious food , great customer service . My go to place never disappointed me. The best chicken I ever tried.

I ordered grilled chicken with a small Greek salad and when I got home, I had whole chicken chunks from yesterday and a large salad. The chicken chunks were so dry, that I almost choked on them. Always a good place for solid chicken and sides. My husband and son had the gyro and they both liked them.

This was horrible. The chicken was cold and dry. How they managed this off a grill could only mean it's been sitting cold all day. Mac-n-cheese was cold and soggy. This place is literally working at being terrible. read more

5:30 at night and out of baked potatoes, this has been going on for years.

Been going to Basil's for a long time. Love their hot wings and love the gyro! I also enjoy a Basil's Salad quite often. I go to the one on 64 right next to the tire shop. About a year ago it seemed like it was going downhill a little bit, but I think some new people took over now. The last few times I have gone there the food has been great! They really stepped it up. You can tell when someone actually cares when they make your food. Lovin it! Keep up the great work and great food guys! read more

Best fast food in Bradenton Sarasota. Flame broiled and quick. Owner is there a lot & the employees are pretty good. My go to place for chicken. I've never had the ribs. It's clean, plenty of lemon on hand & it's crowded (for the area). I just moved here & the chicken is excellent, as well as the salads. There's plenty of parking, the bathrooms are clean, there are televisions and plenty of seating. read more

I ordered from this restaurant through Uber Eats. I got the wrong items. Flan instead of rice pudding. The Baclava had ACTUAL MOLD COLONIES GROWING ON IT!! When I called the restaurant to give them a heads up, the manager was very rude to me and insisted that it was "sugar" not mold. I have a medical background and majored in microbiology, I know what mold looks like. Well needless to say, I'm never eating here again. Beyond disgusted... read more

I don't know why I decided to give this dump another shot. Read my prior review re: cold chicken Gyro if you can. I was starving and around the block so it occurred to me, maybe I can have them add hot, grilled chicken from the 50+ chickens they have on the grill when assembling my Gyro... I was wrong. When the guy started adding cold chicken salad, I kindly asked him to put hot chicken, and he said he could not. He said he could "microwave" my chicken, to what I replied " I don't want microwaved chicken". After asking every single person behind the counter why I couldn't have fresh hot chicken in my Gyro, instead of cold chicken like-salad - nobody was able to give me a logical explanation. I even offered to pay extra if that was the case. I just asked for my money back and left. Anyway, I would also like to state that during my visit no employee wore gloves, or had any food safety awareness whatsoever. The "Gyro guy" got the pita off a drawer with his hands, after emptying the trash, as another employee picked chicken pieces of the grill with his hands, to eat them in front of customers. Terrible service and mediocre food nicely trapped in a dirty, unsanitary environment begging for a health inspector rendezvous. If you like tasty, real, grilled chicken at an affordable price, this is where you want to go. This is nothing like the foam "chicken" that places try to pass off as a bird; this is the real deal. If you're there for lunch be sure to check out their lunch special which includes a leg, a wing and a side for $4.99. Mouthwatering. They also have a buffalo chicken wrap that can get a little bit messy but is the best I've ever had; freshly grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce and put right into a wrap. Yum. Also if you like Greek Salad, be sure to check theirs out. It's what I call "southern style" (fewer cucumbers and more iceberg lettuce) but it's tasty & the dressing is to die for. read more

We have been patrons of Basil's since they opened, but I'm not sure we will go back. Ordered lunch for pickup, only to get home and discover my spinach pie was burned. The top and bottom layer of phyllo was covered in black char to the point that it was inedible. I have never received burned food from them before, so I called to complain. The woman who took my order apologized for not checking it and offered to deliver a new one an hour later. I totally understand that they are busy and possibly understaffed, but I did not have a hour to wait, so I requested a refund. I was fine with that. It happens, not a big deal. I was disappointed, but I ate my salad and tossed the burnt pie. An hour later, I got a call from the cook telling me it wasn't burnt and that I didn't understand how "they" prepare it. (I love their spinach pie, have ordered it many times in the past and it has never been burnt, mind you.) He offered to bring a new one and asked if he could see the "burnt" one and laughed when I said I threw it out. I am willing to overlook mistakes, but he was rude and condescending. If you love Greek food and are willing to overlook decent customer service, you will enjoy the food. Sadly, I guess they don't need me as a customer. read more

Bad chicken. Old upholstery. Chicken was overlooked and dry, I asked if they had mustard, they said "no" Which is fine but then some dude was like "go buy some next door." How about make better chicken! Maybe I was just there at a bad time or something but I would not recommend. Maybe I am expecting too much but at the moment I would not come back either. 1/2 chicken was what I ordered and it was fairly expensive, I spent $11 with tip and the chicken I for was small and burnt. Didn't seem like the place was very looked after, They need some A/C and a complete remodel of the location. read more

Yum!! I've been going to Basils since I was a teenager. I hadn't been in years (I moved halfway across the country), but I was in town and hungry and happened to be passing by so I stopped in. Its exactly as I remembered it. I got the half chicken with pasta salad and baked beans. The chicken was juicy and had lots of flavor, the pasta salad was cool and has a tasty dressing on it, and the beans are kinda soupy, but that's just how I like em. This meal also comes with pita bread and honey butter - so good! If you haven't been - you should check it out!! read more

The chicken and ribs are always worth getting - however, went there two nights ago and not a single employee was wearing a mask when we are in the middle of news-making COVID-19 numbers. If I can wear a mask to walk into the shop to pick up dinner, the least I can expect is to find the employees in masks. I protect you, but I expect the people I do business with to also protect me. We are trying to take out from the neighborhood restaurants, but when I see a restaurant with absolutely no COVID prevention going on, I won't be back. Hope none of the Basil's employees get the virus, because they are handling the food and doing business with clients. read more
