On their salad bar, you'll find a different variety of vegetable and fruit salads, alongside simple but excellent fruit slices like papaya, mango, and lychee fruit. Again, someone paid attention to the details, instead of just hacking up some tossed salad and a bunch of melon. I LOVED that they had sushi! It was simple stuff, mostly cucumber, avocado and shrimp, but it was beautiful and tasty--not going to complain! Desserts were simple, but there's something for everyone. Two kinds of cake, chocolate and lemon--I had one of each, plus the lovely custard. What I thought was really cool was the wide variety of ice cream they had available. They had the standard vanilla, but also mint chip, oreo and more. Service was superb. They are quick and soooo nice there. Excellent! I'm pleased with the whole experience. One of Bruderheim's claims to fame was a short visit by Queen Victoria years ago who came through on the train. A small park in her honour is located adjacent to the tracks. Lily's is one of those local places where you get good old fashioned service, good food in larger quantities, and a good cross-section of local folks. I have always enjoyed my lunches here.

We were looking forward to the experience, and the evening initially got off to a very pleasant start. Upon our arrival, the owner, Ed C., greeted us warmly. I ordered the Polpette, consisting of linguine, house-made veal meatballs, and tomato sauce. The dish was excellent, and I was thoroughly enjoying my meal. Because I enjoy olive oil with most of my pasta dishes, I asked a member of the staff if I could have a small side of olive oil. She advised me that she would notify my server, who was Ed. Several minutes later, Ed emerged from the kitchen carrying a very large bottle of olive oil. He appeared visibly agitated and, without asking me how much oil I wanted, proceeded to pour an excessive amount over my pasta, saturating the dish. What had been an excellent meal was effectively ruined. More disappointing, however, was the manner in which this simple request was handled. I had asked for a small side of olive oil so that I could add it to my pasta according to my own preference. I had not asked for the oil to be poured directly onto my food, much less in such an excessive quantity. I understand that restaurant service can be demanding and that an evening may present its share of challenges. Nevertheless, a reasonable request from a customer should not result in an unpleasant interaction that spoils the dining experience. A simple question about how much oil I wanted, or the provision of a small dish on the side, would have avoided the entire situation. My disappointment is particularly pronounced because the food had been excellent and our initial interaction with Ed had been so pleasant. Unfortunately, his subsequent conduct overshadowed those positive impressions and left us with a very disappointing memory of our visit. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that Ed will take it in the constructive spirit intended. Customers should be able to make reasonable requests and enjoy their meals without having their food altered without their consent.

You can definitely find something for anyone on your gift list in here and all while supporting the local artisans and community. If you're in the area I highly recommend making a pit stop here for a coffee and a smile!
