I was honestly surprised to get my food 5min after ordering and got a large quantity that I didn't end up finishing. Good seating for groups but food is way underspiced. (Good if you don't like spices then I guess!) I came in here with a group on a Saturday. They were relatively empty but probably because of the Fall festival. The menu itself is not helpful in understanding sizes of the dishes. For example, most Thai places I've ever been to offer soups in either a cup size or the choice of a cup or bowl. This place only has a large bowl size for soups which you better plan to share! Unfortunately most of the food was a miss, especially compared to other Thai places i have been to. Hot and Sour Seafood Soup - this soup was served in a Flaming carafe type of bowl. I got this to share with another person. The waiter served the initial cups for us but I was really worried about him because he kept reaching over the flame! The soup itself was salty and almost sweet. Not like the spicy and sour flavor I usually get elsewhere for this soup. It did come with a lot of seafood pieces though. I managed to have a cup without any shrimp and gave them all to my friend. Pad Thai with chicken - this was surpringly plain since 1) it was listed as a "house speciality" and 2) I ordered on the spicy side of their spiciness scale. It was like there was no spice at all so I don't know if my order was written wrong or the kitchen did not give it spiciness. This menu item also lists to ask for it gluten-free but the waiter said it doesn't have gluten anyway. Came in while in town for work, with a large party of 10. They accommodated a same day reservation and had the table set-up when we arrived. Our waitress was phenomenal throughout the meal. Suggesting dishes and keeping drinks full. Some of the table shared the wonton soup, it was enough for 4-5 people though everyone only got like 1 wonton each with plenty of broth left over. I had been wanting to try this place, and I recently came down with severe bronchitis, so I ordered some of the coconut chicken soup for delivery. Let me just say, if you are sick in any way, with any kind of cold or flu symptoms, this is the best soup for you. I asked for a medium spice, because I like my salsa medium, and I usually get medium at Indian restaurants, but it didn't seem to have any spice at all. It was still very delicious, but I had to add a pretty good amount of cayenne pepper to get it to the spiciness I needed. I will look forward to an in-person visit, but in the meantime I wanted to report on how good and nourishing the soup is when you are sick. Having just come from a bad experience next door, we were primed for disappointment when we walked into Basil Thai. The excellent staff and equally wonderful food absolutely turned our evening around! The hostess was friendly and courteous, and seated us outdoors at our request. It was such a gorgeous night, I don't know why anyone would want to sit indoors! Our waiter, John, was patient and helpful- he asked if we had eaten here before, and when we told him we hadn't, he offered to answer any questions we might have. (I didn't tell him that we cook Thai all the time and actually have Thai Basil and a Keffir Lime tree growing in our kitchen!) Our appetizer- Rice Paper Rolls (2 for $7) and drinks (Thai iced tea for my Bride and jasmine tea for me) arrived very quickly, followed by our entrees at a decent interval. He told me that my Thai noodles stir fry come at a medium spiciness and asked if I wanted the chef to kick it up a notch. I'm glad I said yes- what I got was perfect! Enough heat to make me sniffle a little, not enough to mask the delicate flavours of the ingredients. I got pork as my protein, but they offer other meats, shrimp, and tofu as well. My Bride- 25 years this weekend!- got the Basil dinner. Lavishly appointed with Thai basil, her tasty dish of chicken and vegetables came with jasmine rice (brown rice is $2 more). The portions were reasonable, leaving us full, but not feeling stuffed. Afternoon snacking precluded dessert; I had been looking forward to sticky rice with mango, but I'm trying to be good... Supper for two with an appetizer and two drinks came to $62.64 including tax but before tip. A small enough price for salvaging our evening out. So, my husband ordered Pad se eu (spelling?) I ordered Pad Thai no chicken. We got our order and within a few minutes I asked how is your food and he said the noodles are sticky. And I said so are mine. Like they were sitting long or they didn't wash the noodles. Idk I am not a chef. Maybe because yesterday was Easter they had left over. We enjoy Thai food, and are used to being asked how spicy we want our entrees. We weren't, which might have been a sign. All the dishes -- green curry, Thai basil, and pad Thai were only lightly spiced. The rice served with the sauce dishes was quite dry, as well. The shrimp and basil rolls were uninteresting, containing only noodles, a shrimp and a basil leaf. The dipping sauce was lively, but cold rolls at other Thai restaurants have had more flavor. Overall the food was very disappointing. The good news: the leftover green curry found its spiciness when reheated the next day, and 2 teaspoons of pad Thai sauce from the local grocery brought the leftover pad thai up to par. I'm not a fan of the normal broccoli in this dish since I'm accustomed to the traditional chinese broccoli in pad see ew. Favorite place we ate at during our visit to Greenville. I had many restaurants planned out to eat at but this one was conveniently right next to our hotel so we decided to give it a shot. I am so glad we did! The soup (Tom Kha gai) which is always a must when I see it in the menu, was by far the best I've had and on top of that the presentation was the most unique and extravagant I've ever seen. I decided to branch out and not get my usual Massaman Curry. I can't remember the name of the dish I did order but I do know it was a spicy fish recommended by our server. I've tried many others but keep coming here because the food is consistently very good and we love to sit outside and people and dog watch. Many wonderful appetizers to share but the fried wontons, fried wings, and basil spring rolls are our favorites. Try the barramundi or pad Thai or fried rice or...just close your eyes and pick. Let's do the pros first. Basil Thai provides a classy dining experience. The service was attentive and food came out relatively quickly. Also conveniently located downtown in the same square as Tupelo Honey, Caviar and Bananas and Methodical Coffee as well as a few boutiques. However when it comes to food and cost, I would recommend going across the street to Lemongrass Thai or driving the 2-3 miles out of downtown to the other Thai restaurants. Dishes at Basil Thai during dinner and weekends ran around $15 for your regular curries, $17 for pad Thai, and $16 for other noodle dishes. Their lunch menu has better prices however still higher than the average Thai restaurant and lunch menu only available Monday through Friday. For comparison, other Thai restaurants have their noodle and curry dishes running at $9-10 for lunch and $10-12 for dinner. Also Basil Thai seems to cater to those who are trying Thai food for the first time. The level of spiciness was lacking. Even at Thai hot, which was described to be a 7/10 spiciness, the curry was only about a 3/10 spice level. The pad Thai I got at moderate spice level needed about ten spoonfuls of the chili sauce - after I added those in, it tasted great. - Red curry: This was just ok. Comes with choice of protein and bell peppers and bamboo shoots. - Pad Thai: Great presentation. Tasty after I doused chili sauce all over it. Does come with chicken and shrimp which I appreciated since this was $17. read more

Literally soooo good ! Of course went with the fan favorite SHIRMP pad Thai and it was perfect! Amazing flavor and I added an extra side of peanut sauce. The shirmp wontons were sooooo good! There is a large parking garage adjacent to / behind the restaurant (it is actually sort of built into the same structure, along with some other shops), so you can park there. We just walked over from our hotel, though. We were seated promptly upon arrival. We got a window table and watched the people passing by out in the plaza. The decorations here heavily favor small elephant statues. The staff was attentive. We never felt neglected even as the place filled up during our meal. I just got Pad Thai, as I assumed (correctly) that I would be more likely to finish that versus a curry dish. My wife got a chicken and vegetable dish. We both enjoyed the food. We didn't get an appetizer or a dessert here, though. They do have a full bar also. If you are near downtown and are looking for a good Thai meal, this is a solid choice. read more
