I loved this place while eating there, but truly knew it was amazing when I was craving their food a few days later. The momo and dipping sauce are magic! We had to get a second order of them. I can't think of another restaurant that could feed two picky vegans and a meat eater and accommodate everyone's tastes and heat preferences perfectly. Our party ordered dishes with a heat levels from 1 to 8 and everyone really enjoyed the fresh, tasty veggies and great spices. I had jackfruit takari, it was wonderful, and so unique to find jackfruit on a menu. The drinks were great too and it is very clear that a skilled hand created the palette of flavors that Base Camp offers. The prices are a little high in comparison to restaurants outside of town, but are par for the course in Hanover. We were driving by not far from here, and having never eaten Himalayan/Nepalese food, we decided to give it a try. We had the Buffalo momo which are pretty much dumplings. They were possibly the best dumplings I've ever had (and I've had some great ones in NYC). The dough was pretty thick, The meat inside smooth, not tough and soggy as is often the case, and the sauce was fabulous. We also ordered duck with chili (pepper) sauce and goat curry. We ordered both with medium (5) spiciness. The flavors were excellent, the goat was tender, and the duck crispy. Service was also friendly and quick. The only negative, for which I removed one star is the meager amount of meat in both our main dishes. There wasn't a lot of goat, and even less duck. The prices are pretty high, I think the duck was $22 and the goat $14-15. At those prices I would expect a bit more. Still, I would definitely recommend this place, and I would stop by again if I was in the area. read more

The food there is great. The momos are so yummy! The food I tried so far was tasty. They have spicy level from 1-10. However, I'm not a big fan of their desserts. I'm not saying that their desserts aren't good. It's just not my favorite. read more

I went here once when it first opened, and was really impressed with the food. I have been away from hanover from 6 months, and came back and the food was as good as i remember. I think portion sizes have even increased. I thought everything we ordered was really good, especially the goat chili. read more

First time Nepalese food and not at all disappointed. Even though we had a slight communication challenge with our server she was very delightful and took her time trying to explain the differences in the food. She definitely steered both of us in the right direction. My associate was skeptical but by the end of the meal she was raving about how good it was. The bartender was very friendly and explained the different beers and suggested a very good choice that did not disappoint. What an excellent meal!! We visited Base Camp when dropping my son off to college. We were looking for something a bit different and not a chain. What a wonderful discovery. The food was amazing, very flavorful and as everyone could select the level of spice, it worked for all, from my daughter who likes everything mild, to my husband who likes food that is very hot and spicy. A little hard to find, it's in a building with several other shops/businesses. Very friendly staff. We had a large group on a Friday night and they were able to accommodate us well. No problem getting separate checks. Everyone in the group raved about the food. They are able to customize the spiciness and when I asked for mild, it truly was mild. I had the Basil Chicken, and while I thought the chicken itself was well cooked, it wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting. I suppose most of the flavor must come from chili peppers and without them it seemed that something was missing. The vegetables, however, had the perfect level of crispness and warmth; very flavorful. read more

I'm visiting for just two days, and wanted some comfort food - this was perfect!! I ordered the herb bread ($3), lentil Soup ($5), and broccoli ($6) and loved them all. Delicious food prepared in a healthy and appetizing way (no fried food here). The vegetables and other dishes were seasoned to perfection and the "sauces" were light and delicious. Our waiter (the owner, I presume) was really friendly, but not intrusively so, and took the time to answer our questions and carefully instruct us on their spiciness/hot spectrum. There were a variety of meat dishes as well, but our group didn't try them this time. The tomato-based soup was wonderful! All of their desserts were amazing! read more

So I resisted my wife's suggestion we go here for several months for no real reason, and realized I have missed 6 months of delicious meals. We shared the flatbread with the cilantro sauce, lamb mo-mo, green bean bites, flash fried with cumin seed, then for the entree we again shared the chicken-mushroom curry with #6 level spice and stir fried shrimp noodles - also #6 spice. Amazing. No faults except the pen broke when we were trying to sign the check. The spice was just right, the vegetables were fresh, and it was clear that each dish was essentially cooked to order. highly recommended but make a reservation because it tends to fill up fast and it is a fairly small sitting area. read more

As a Muslim student of South Asian descent, Base Camp was one of the most welcome additions to the rather limited options for food available in the Hanover area. Bringing in what I understand to be quite authentic Nepli cuisine, the food keeps me coming back. The biggest draws for me are that every dish is very, very flavorful, and are also very healthy, i.e. I feel great after eating there! Also, the lamb and goad meat is halal!!! =D My favorite dishes are the spinach and paneer momos as an app., their lamb tarkari, and a yogurt desert type thing they have, I forgot what it's called but it's delicious. Servings are a good size, and while it is a bit pricey, it's totally worth it! And that's just the food, the ambiance is splendid. Beautiful, soothing music plays in the background, the the semi-lit venue feels perfectly cozy and warm in the winters, while providing cooling relief in the summer months. Finally, the service is great, always smiling, always welcoming, and very, very friendly. Recommend it as my favorite place to eat in Hanover. read more

Base Camp Cafe is the best "international" restaurant I've been to, in the Upper Valley. Hanover really needed a place like this. The food is very good, like a modern focused version of Nepalese. Ingredients are much better than other restaurants out here. Amazingly wide selection of meat, mainly good quality (the lamb and wild boar are good, the goat was just ok the time I had it). Vegetables are fresh and nicely prepared. The chilis and curries are delicious and substantial, as are the appetizer momos. Prices are on the highish side, about $15-$20 for entrees, but in-line with other Hanover restaurants. Ambience is low key but cozy and nice -- this isn't a "hole in the wall" type restaurant. The owners (and others who work here) are nice as can be, helpful and accommodating. They seem to care about what they do (which can be pretty rare in this area). IMO it's the best restaurant in Hanover right now. read more
