We stopped in on July 4th. There were a few people inside and one person in the beer garden. Our visit was for a beer and bite to eat. The Peach Fuzz IPA was very good. We got a four pack to take home. The Foggy Harbor was good also. The food was typical bar food. While there wasn't an expansive beer selection they were definitely the star of the show. The dining was good size and the seating was a mix of different chairs and tables. They had a cool old drawbridge control station with a live feed of a drawbridge. That added a nice touch to the room. I enjoyed the large windows in the dining room. The staff were nice and helpful. We don't get out that way often, but would stop in if we are in the area. read more

Beer -3.5/5 Food 1/5 Atmosphere 1/5: place smelled like old grease, dirty, rusty tables outside, not kept up. Trash on the floor in bathroom. We were 1 of 3 patrons on a Saturday night then quickly became the only 2 there from 8 pm on. Bartender was very good and kind. She was the reason we didn't leave to go to a different place. Bascule Brewery is a fun little brewery and restaurant in Lorain. The vibe is very laid-back, comfortable, and welcoming. The food was good and the employees were kind and attentive. I also liked that they had many games that you could play while hanging out. I recommend Bascule and would definitely return in the future. read more

I love coming home and heading to Bascule! Nothing I love more than supporting small businesses especially in my home town! Chris is always helpful and works hard on this place.I love the inside. It's so warm and welcoming and I love all the vintage things in and around the place. The place is quaint and friendly. Two new things added since I've been back. The outdoor beer garden and he's got some good food he's serving up. All the menu items look amazing. The all you can eat spaghetti on Sundays is a hit. It's a non descript little grey building. Plenty of beer options to try and the food was great! The prices were also more than fair...don't tell them I said that. DH had the breakfast platter and loved the pancakes and the ham (sometimes dry as a breakfast side). I had the avocado toast and added egg, which turned out to be 2 slices and 2 eggs for $9.50. They are a little out of the way for an out of towner, but if you want some from scratch food and a relaxed vibe, it's a great place. There's some fun board/card games there too so take a few friends! read more

It's dirty and the dining area was full of smoke, presumably from a lack of venting in the kitchen. Several of us got our food 15 minutes before the others. The drinking glasses were dirty as was the table with a carved out area that seemed impossible to clean properly. Definitely would not recommend. I'd give it a zero if that were an option read more

The coziest brewery out there, and a really great hidden gem in Lorain. Not only does the beer hold so much personality and uniqueness, but the new food menu is larger and more diverse than you would typically expect from a small-town taphouse! There are so many stories and pieces of history to experience in one space, occasional community events, and board games available for anyone to enjoy! You can really tell how much care and attention to detail this brewery puts into everything they serve. So whenever I head into Lorain I always drive by this brewery, but never stop. Oh how silly was I! This place is great! We were out in Lorain kayaking and exploring when we decided to finally swing by Bascule's on our way home. Tiny parking lot, but since it was a Saturday afternoon things were still pretty chill and we easily got a spot. I don't know about you, but this off time is my favorite time to visit places because you can sit at the bar and have friendly chats with the staff and patrons. No crowd, no loud noise, no fighting to place an order. Owner Chris introduced himself and we learned about how the theme of the bar is bridges. Specifically the Bascule type of bridge (there's one in Lorain!) which opens up to allow ships to pass under and closes back together to connect one side to the other. Chris wants his brewery to be a place were people can connect. Ah what a thoughtful sweet reason to open a bar! (Plus I'm sure he enjoys making and drinking beer). To back up this connecting, you can see plaques on the wall from local citizens and businesses who donated/partnered with the brewery. There are church pews (you can have a seat or pray to Jesus if you drank too much) from the church Chris went to in his hometown (Youngstown) and several board games you can play with others. I had a baby flight to sample the five goods on tap that day and decided on the CocoMango. It's an IPA, but you can really taste the tropical flavors, nothing bitter about it. I was told that a peach cobbler beer is in the works and this fall there should be a sweet potato casserole beer coming as well! Both sound delicious! A regular named Jimbo came in and sat down next to us. He's a friendly guy with lots of stories to tell. Heck, everyone was personable and we had a really nice laid back experience here. I really hope Bascule joins the Cleveland Brewery Passport next year so that others can learn about this awesome little brewery! My only tiny suggestion is that they get something for those who don't drink beer, like maybe carry two wine selections from a local winery? Also a big sign on top of the building saying "DRINK BEER HERE" or something would really get peoples attention haha. read more

Great for what it is, reminded me and my wife of an old time neighborhood bar. Very chilled and laid back. Had a group playing dungeons and dragons and we were invited to stay and watch. Mixed crowd and everyone was just hanging. Cook and bartender were very friendly. Small menu but we enjoyed our food and the pilsner beer was great. look forward to going back again soon. read more

It's like you step out of your element & enter your best friends hospitality haven. Microbreweries & craft beers are popping up all over the nation. Okay, I've passed this place a couple dozen times, wanted to stop, never had time. Tonight I made it a special point to go because I was in the area again... The parking lot is small, maybe 8-10 cars total, but they do have overflow nearby. This is a very eclectic, cool place, with decor that reminds me of someone putting together a home basement bar. Nothing matches. A handful of dining room tables, which don't match, chairs that slightly match the tables, and some couches. I love it! Very awesome environment! The staff is extremely friendly, and engaging! If every place has their bar staff, they would be 3 steps closer to success! The menu available seemed tasty, but I didn't eat. Now on to the beer... I had Orb Weaver(chocolate peanut butter stout), Paranormale(spiced beer), and Barn Buster(IPA). All beers are very approachable, but the Paranormale was the best of the 3 for me. Thick and chewy body, not overly sweet or spiced, well balanced. Orb Weaver is a stout, that is supposed to have peanut butter flavor in it. While it could have been more for my liking, if you're apprehensive about there being too much, there isn't. Barn Buster is the IPA you want to have if you don't like in your face wear coast IPA's. Not overly bitter or hop flavored, but it does have the grapefruit citrusy flavor along with a fair amount of malt backbone. As a beer geek, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get here as I live 25 minutes away, but I'll definitely stop when I'm in the area. The locals love it, and after stopping I can see its appeal to them. read more

I was introduced to this place by a friend, while it may not have lots and lots of drinks or the populars, it has great brewed beer!!! The staff is very friendly as are the regulars, come here twice and they'll remember you. Very genuine and sweet people. The owner is also great, and talented he brews all the beer in house. Highly recommend. Also, the atmosphere and space is very aesthetic and cute, so homey and unique. If you like beer, you've got to come here! read more

I can't believe there's only 3 reviews! I stopped in for a drink about two Saturdays ago. Awesome vibe; one of the owners, Chris, came up to our group right away and introduced himself & hugged us. Really great beer and laid back place. Love the wall of reclaimed wood. Ended up staying for a few beers. Don't hesitate to try this because of the neighborhood! You will immediately feel welcomed in this brewery. I will definitely be back...especially after Rockin on the River! read more

My friend and I are trying to complete the Cleveland Brewery Passport challenge and this is the brewery farthest out from us. We debated whether to venture this far west or just say "oh well, we're not hitting all of the breweries". On a nice May day/night we decided to give it a try, what a reward! The beer was outstanding and creative. I had a German Chocolate Cake Beer complete with a glass rimmed with chocolate frosting and coconut. It was a delicious porter. My friend had the Peanut Butter Porter, very smooth. But the best part of Bascule Brewery is the people! We were greeted by the owner as though we come in everyday. Patrons of the bar are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend! Can't wait for another visit. read more
