Tucked away in a mall complex is this gem of a Turkish bakery serving delightful pasties, Turkish coffee/tea in a comfortable ambiance. Service is efficient and there's a nice neighborhood feel to it even though it's in a mall. The Turkish coffee was good but I'd have liked more for the price. The baklava was tasty but the phyllo could have been crisper. Plenty of cakes, cookies and pastries on offer. Prices are reasonable and lots of tables to sit around and chat. read more

We ordered the breakfast delight, two Turkish coffees, and purchased a small Dubai chocolate bar, it was $66 plus tip. A tad bit pricey in our opinion. The bread that came with the breakfast was very fresh. The menemen had eggs, cheese, tomatoes, and peppers--it tasted very egg yolky. The different condiments for the bread was fun to try, but nothing wowed us. Dubai chocolate was smooth, crunchy, but didn't have much of a pistachio butter flavor. Turkish coffee is very strong--you sip on it like espresso. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Would come back to try the parties they sell. The pastries look very pretty. I really don't want to give a small business a bad review, but unfortunately, I thought this bakery was extremely overpriced and underwhelming. We got a small piece of baklava (just one), the small version of the Dubai chocolate bar, and a very, very small Turkish coffee (the size of one tiny espresso). The cost for these three items was $23.25, and unfortunately, nothing was worth the price. We have gotten the Dubai chocolate bar from Nuts Factory, and it was much better. Basak's Dubai chocolate bar tastes like a Cadbury knock off, has very little of the actual pistachio filling, and was not worth $10.00 at all. The size of the mini Turkish coffee was a joke, and I later found out it was around $7.75. Lastly, one tiny piece of baklava somehow drove our bill up to $23.25, which makes the piece more expensive than getting it over at Estia restaurant and other Turkish/Mediterranean restaurants for dessert. On top of that, despite the woman who helped us being kind, she kept a dollar when returning my change without explanation, making the cost of these three very average items almost $25. Would not return at all. Also beware, they do not tell you when paying that credit credit cards incur a surcharge fee. read more

The entrance is hard to find as it is within the courtyard area of a plaza. It is a nice plaza with a variety of stores. It is cool that NJ has a Turkish bakery because the cafe in the city shut down and I didn't want to go to a dining restaurant just for a cup of coffee. The options of what was what and that I could choose a variety of goods for the bread pastry with minced meat, vegetable, or cheese was confusing to me and I didn't put that together until after the fact. This place feels like a hidden gem. Thanks to my sister's boyfriend (who is Turkish), my mom, my sister and I decided to visit and we really enjoyed their Turkish tea and bread (not sure the name of the bread, but I plan on returning and learning the name). Their olive oil and garlic are the highest quality that I have tasted in a very long time. My mother and sister enjoyed their meals as well. I look forward to returning soon. read more

I never had Turkish desserts before, but we got a mini cake that had pistachio, which was good, and we got some baklava. Personally, it was too sweet for me. Beautiful little bakery tucked away in a plaza on Rt. 70. Discovered it by accident walking by to another restaurant, and then brought my brother in law over to look at it. Lucky me, he decided to treat us to the infamous Dubai chocolates. It was pricy - a small slab for $10, but oh my gosh, was it delicious -- milk chocolate with crushed pistachios. Hoooooey! I asked if they also happened to have borekas, which is a kind of pastry I've had that is a lovely buttery flaky pastry that can be filled with meats or cheeses. I'm going to come back and try those. And oh yes, baklavas of all kinds are going on my MUST TRY list as well. There are small seating areas and they also serve a limited menu for breakfasts. read more

This place is cool! The location is a little confusing if you haven't been to the plaza before - you need to park either in the front or back, then walk towards the middle of the plaza to find it. The servers are very friendly, and there are a lot of food options. They have bakery items (like bags of breads, rolls, etc.), pastries, and they do some savory foods during breakfast time it seems. OMG!!! Tried this place for the first time today. It is so quaint and cute with just the right amount of background music. They have beautiful single Turkish tea sets on top of the counter which I just wanted to buy!!! I initially went in there to look at desserts for next week and the young man gave us samples of a salty cookie and some sort of chocolate truffle ball. Their other desserts looked so delicious, but we settled on a small fruit tart, and some vanilla pistachio cookies which I had to eat two of them while drinking my Turkish tea which was served in a smart looking tea cup. I will definitely be back next week to pick up different slices of cakes and salty cookies to dunk in tea and coffee for my family dinner. The ambiance is very laid back great to meet with friends to catch up or just sitting down for a quick bites. Had to try the Turkish coffee which didn't disappoint was perfect. What a fun surprise! This is located in the back area of the strip mall. You can't see it from the street. The deserts are beautiful. The Turkish coffee is delicious. Yes, the baklava is sweet (noted by the other Yelp reviewer), but that's the nature of baklava. It was so good. The coffee and the desserts are a nice pairing. I don't like Turkish delight and after today, I wonder if I've ever really had proper Turkish delight before. It is delicious here, and the staff was very friendly. Wow, just got back from this wonderful mini-"vacation" spot, and couldn't wait to share a review with you. Do yourself a lovely favor and go enjoy something luscious there - that would be pretty much anything they make. The dear lady who's a top-notch pastry chef also makes savory items, and scrumptious bread, which was brought to our table with four spreads (get the spicy one!!) as a generous gesture. Staff is a delight! There are linen cloths on the tables, a romantic corner for couples, beautiful decor, and cases loaded with colorful, gem-like treats. The Turkish friends I went there with said that they felt like they were back in Turkey, so really at home - sweet. Haha, 'nuff said...enjoy! read more

We're in between homes while waiting on a new build. So, for the next few months, we're living at Dwell. In exploring the nearby shopping area, we came across Basak Bakery. And we're surely glad we did! The selection of desserts, cookies and bread is amazing. The ambiance is wonderful too. While we've only tried an assortment of cookies, we'll definitely be back to try many more items too. Especially the baklava! I love baklava and couldn't resist stopping in to check out the bakery out of pure curiosity. It has quaint Turkish decor which was inviting. There were a few people at the cafe style tables eating and having coffee. The glass front counter was laden with Turkish delicacies. I wanted to order a few to go but there was no one servicing the counter and one man that was by the tables and not eager to assist. He eventually came over and although there was a language barrier, he boxed up a variety of types of the baklava that were offered. I would've liked to have been able to find out the distinction between each kind, but that was not an option. The bottom line is that it didn't matter because they were all so incredibly fresh and deliciously sweet. I will definitely go back for more sometime. The cakes that were available looked beautiful, but if you are not familiar with Turkish baked goods, it's hard to know what each one was. read more

Food wasn't great and took about 30 minutes for food to come out and was really disrespectful

I went in there today the waitress handed me the menu 15 minutes after I sat down cause she was too busy speaking to the guy behind the till. She then came back after 30 minutes to take my order. When I asked for meat pastry she said she didn't have any left and that my only option was cheese although she did seem rude but I still ordered. I then got up to see that they had LOADS of meat pastries displayed. This is so disrespectful. I will never go there again, perhaps she wanted to eat it herself very bad service. Cancelled my order and left. PS: noticed a lot of bad reviews on service, management needs to deal with it! read more

Very pretty desserts but too sweet for my particular palate. There are no prices listed next to each item, so you will have to ask them each time. It feels like I'm bothering them. Might be a cultural difference thing, but I didn't feel very welcomed. Most of the staff aren't fluent in English. They kept following me around as I checked out the bakery items on display and constantly asked "Anything else?" I think having a name and short description of each item along with prices on display would be helpful. Prices are among the lines of better quality supermarket bakeries (Think Wegmans, Whole Foods). read more
