We recently had our roof replaced by Refined Roofing from Refined Home Services. We made a…read morehorrible choice. LIke many people, we rely on customer reviews and word of mouth when hiring for home projects. Despite being the most expensive option, we chose Refined Roofing after relying on other customer reviews. A huge mistake! In short, do not hire Refined Roofing because of their lack of site management, their lack of professionalism, and their deceitful behavior. We live in a neighborhood where houses are close to one another. We were concerned about the impact of our project on our neighbors and made this clear to Refined Roofing at the start. We were promised careful site management from a site supervisor, with a specific promise to tarp the area, including the neighbor's yard, to capture all debris. NO supervisor was on site during the actual execution of the project. As the photo shows, the area was INADEQUATELY tarped, debris was carelessly spewed all over our property and our neighbor's. When supervisors finally visited the site, they promised to repair the neighbor's yard. Once I paid my bill, they refused to make good on their promise. Additionally, the actual workmanship was sloppy. Among other things, they knowingly applied broken shingles to the new roof and did not apply a promised second coat of rubber in one area. Furthermore, the owners of Refined Home Services, Gino and Karen, were rude, dismissive, and dishonest when confronted with the facts. They denied that there was any debris mismanagement or damage, despite the photo proof included here. While the company replaced the broken shingles and finally cleaned up the initial mess, they refused to take responsibility for the damage they caused and left us in the uncomfortable situation they created with our neighbors. In short, Refined Roofing lacks quality of service, integrity, and decency. This company is not worth hiring ... ever.

After having hired him for extensive work, I believe that Gino Spero runs a racket business that…read morebilks homeowners by lying about labor done and materials used. He gives you a relatively high estimate (supposedly because of quality) and then farms out the labor to a cheaper third party subcontractor for whom he does inadequate quality assurance nor does he supervise. He lies on the contract and becomes borderline unreachable once the work is finished and inevitably deteriorates as the seasons change. We hired him to build a roof which he did not weatherproof--or likely did not inform his subcontractors to--and then denied any wrongdoing once the roof started to collapse. There are open holes on the roof not even supported by plywood and he afterward tried to claim that the wrapping paper and felt used between wood and shingles was really a water shield as stated in his contract, which of course is a categorical lie. When confronted with the photos he lied again and stated that the "Grace ice and water shield" had really been used. It was not. The damage caused by this is extremely expensive and time consuming to address. The entire roof is covered with cheap paper. The leaks are extensive and directly above the HVAC system and electrical equipment. In addition to that the shingles are hastily glued on and too few were used overall which of course can only lead to more water penetration. They ended up tossing a good number of shingles that we had bought from them. The deck was full of holes, and the roof corners not even taped or covered with plywood. He tried to blame all leaks on parts of the roof he did not work on but this is easily disproven by an objective outside party. Even more fatally, the decks were not built with any slope or incline, so they collect water like rice cookers. He of course did not offer to fix or reimburse for the necessary work to fix it and is onto his next scam. We tried calling him countless times to fix the damage but he never showed up. You can get away with a lot of borderline fraudulent behavior in the contracting world and he is an embarrassment to other roofers and honest people in this business.

They then called to cancel, then 2 people showed up on the original date and another on the alternate date. All 3 had never put a window in before. They left. Another guy came back. He broke the assembly and just left it all in pieces. I now had an installed window, no hardware - nothing. The third guy came and put up a shade that came all disheveled and wrinkled and said that yet another would be coming to install the valance. In his attempt to put the valance in, he nicked the paint job on the window and didn't properly plug all the nail holes. It looked terrible. All this time - about 5 months and I was already paying on the window for which I had not received a full service for. Finally got the valance and now the shade does not work. Trying to get communications going with them and they want to charge me another $1200-1500 to put in an automatic shade, which is what the salesguy led me to believe in the first place. Bottom line: they don't deliver but they sure know how to take your money. Easy to create a paper trail with them if you ever wanted to take them to court - they don't answer your messages. NEVER again will i use Pella. Lots of management issues in this company, not to mention customer service that stinks.

All he did was use larger treads with more overhang. The *effective* depth (surface area you have to work with when walking down the stairs) didn't actually change. What I wanted would mean dismantling the entire internal frame for the staircase. He should have been clear that without changing the internal structure it wouldn't accomplish what I want. I guarantee his response is going to be something like "you knew what the job was" etc and make this my fault. People outside the industry don't know what these projects entail that's why we rely on builders! That's why I trusted him! A business owner with integrity would say okay how can we make this right but this is the type of person who thinks everything is someone else's fault. In his mind because the way I confronted him was "rude" and the fact that I didn't see all the problems initially absolves him of any responsibility for the way he left my house. Please please please do not trust him. ________end of update The project was new stairs. We agreed to $4500. Okay, great. Later I offered to buy the materials ahead of time (to get a military discount at HD) then he didn't take that off the total price which I didn't realize until like 3 weeks later. I texted him and he said because I asked him to put a new piece of ceiling trim up (he took it down to look behind it and in the process it was like basically destroyed so yeah obviously). I said there's no way that cost over $600. He responded I never said it was. So I don't understand his reasoning. Half his texts don't even make sense. Anyway I moved on to my complaints about the quality of the end result. I told him I'm mad *now* because I didn't think the final product was that bad until later when I realized just how many problems he left for me to fix. The way he responded to my concerns with the quality of his work was so immature and unprofessional. Basically he tried to gaslight me into thinking his sloppy end result is somehow my fault. Example 1: The wood putty he used around the aforementioned trim is haphazardly caked on and around. It looks like he did it half asleep. He said what did I expect when I asked for new trim at 3pm. Ok? So being tired justifies an ugly end result? Ridiculous. Example 2: The wall paneling around the stairs got damaged in the course of the job. He thinks it's my fault for asking him to replace the white trim on the side of the stairs (I didn't). But that doesn't make sense because there was damage to the bottoms of the wall panels around ALL of the stairs. Either scratches, chunks missing, or wood stain on the walls. He said to just paint over the scratches and missing chunks. I understand that there's going to be damage when you are replacing a whole stairwell but it's expected you patch any damage you do to surrounding structures during the job. He disagrees. In fact when I said that he lashed out at me saying I should have said something at the time and I'm "rude as f*ck." Screenshots of the conversation are posted.

WARNING: I believe Rite Window in Woburn, MA operates a calculated bait-and-switch scam. Prior to…read moreJanuary 7, 2026, they called me relentlessly to schedule a consultation. Salesperson Trevor DiTullio came to my home with a polished presentation about being a family business with outstanding reviews, specifically mentioning that Mass Save refers clients to them to establish credibility. During the consultation, I asked Trevor a direct question about basement windows below grade level that require excavation. I explicitly asked if Rite Window handles this work. This was the determining factor in whether I would sign a contract. Trevor looked me in the eye and stated: "we'll dig out the dirt and add in window wells." Based solely on that promise, I signed the contract and authorized a hard credit inquiry on January 7th. The contract had a 3-day rescission period ending January 10th. Immediately after it expired, Rite Window called to schedule measurements for January 13th. The timing is not coincidental. Today, the measurement technicians arrived and flatly stated Rite Window does not remove dirt or perform excavation work. The technicians were shaking their heads, clearly aware the salesperson had lied. After admitting they could not do the work that was the entire basis for my contract, they insisted on measuring other basement windows because they didn't want to waste their time. I had to explicitly refuse. The whole point was the two below-grade windows. I immediately made multiple attempts to reach management. The company that called relentlessly before my signature has become completely unreachable. Trevor eventually called back and admitted he told me they would dig out the dirt. He stated he would cancel the order. When I demanded to speak with a manager, he said he would "see what he could do" about having someone call back. Hours later, no call. They also refuse to provide email addresses for management, deliberately preventing written documentation. The pattern is calculated: Use Mass Save's name for credibility. Call relentlessly to get the consultation. Tell customers whatever they need to hear to sign. Wait for the rescission period to expire. Schedule the next appointment and reveal the lies. Make management unreachable. This is, in my opinion, organized fraud designed to trap customers after the legal cancellation window closes. I authorized a credit inquiry based on promises Trevor admitted he made. The technicians confirmed the services do not exist. I am filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Massachusetts Attorney General, and disputing the fraudulent credit inquiry. The Mass Save claim is a sales tactic. The family business story is a script. The promises are lies. The timing is intentional. Do not give this company your business, signature, or trust. Find an honest contractor.
