Veggie taco and veggie broth (both with unbelievable delicious flavors)
Madeleine G.

What a find! Great selection of beer and wine. And fantastic menu that has many gf and veg options. Service was excellent too. Should of taken photos before we ate most of the food. But had to stop and try to capture the deliciousness. Will make a point of stopping hear if we are anywhere near by!

I had low expectations when walking into this sleepy town's restaurant. I wasn't sure what to expect. We walked in and was greeted right away by the bartender. We choose we're we wanted to sit and they explained how it worked. It's more like a tapas place. Everything we ordered was delicious! From the wine suggestions from the bar tender to all of the food we tried. It was definitely worth the price we paid for it! We enjoyed everything.

Japanese fried chicken. Had some nice spices.

This here establishment would absolutely crush it on Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Very surprising find up here in North Creek, New York and our cool bartender chickie Emily (she had the coolest hair) said they actually do really, really well with the ski and tourist seasons there in the far upstate. Killer taplist of about a dozen beers, all indigenous to the Northeast, with most tapping out of New York State. Also on tap are about 10 or so different wines. Worry not, you won't be limited at all to what's on tap for either beer or wine! You'll be handed an expansive can/bottle list to peruse and no doubt you'll find several choices to your liking like Industrial Arts Wrench in a can. Prices tend to run a bit higher, but remember what you're getting and where you are...you'd have to drive a really, really long way from North Creek to find something similar. Vibe is totally cool, with a hodgepodge of hipsters, yuppies, tourists, and locals that simply like good quality beer, wine, and tapas style dishes. On this, our very first visit, we found all staff members we encountered to be pleasant and attentive. They're serving up some really unique dishes here like soy soaked deviled eggs with wasabi, Japanese fried chicken (with the perfect amount of kick), an amazing and very popular mussels dish (seemed like every other person at the bar ordered this, including my sister), and a lot more. I was so pleasantly surprised and psyched that Yelp helped us find this place and we will indubitably be back, likely a whole buncha times. If I lived in North Creek, I'd be a regular. Note: I noticed zero pretension at all in this place, so don't be afraid if you aren't a wine snob. People were really cool inside.

'Honey Boat' squash with maple

First time, everything was excellent, from food to service. Dishes are locally sourced, with highly creative combinations of flavors, textures, colors, and ingredients. Scallops with spicy gochujang sauce, local squash, fried leeks and hummus was so delicious! We loved the fried eggplant with pomodoro sauce and whipped goat cheese. 'Honey Boat' local squash with sweet maple simple yet captivating. Carrots with parsley and pickling herbs (those little round balls), so interesting, what a fun experience. Vegetrables paired well with the Austrian white wine. The warm Olive salad with artichokes and sundried tomatoes paired well with the Loire sauvignon blanc. Very glad we got the large-sized Bone Broth, served in a classic tall English teapot and teacup set, as its warmth rejuvenated us after a long drive. This tapas-style suits my Gemini wife perfectly. Phoebe, our server, was attentive, helpful and cheery. Most highly recommend.

The most important thing to know about Bar Vino is probably that they DO NOT take reservations. Our arrival 30 minutes after their 5 o'clock opening saw our party of four promptly seated at two tables that they pushed together for us. There were now about a dozen people seated at either the bar or tables on the last meteorological Sunday of the season. By a little after 6 pm people were standing at the bar and outside waiting for tables to free up. I did not study the wine list, but it looked extensive and the bar has a cruvinet with about 16 taps. I also did not bother to look at the bottled beer list, because there were eleven draft beers listed on the chalk board, all craft beers, with the exception of Guinness, all of which peaked my interest. Each of the wine drinkers ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc ($8/5oz) while I had a pint of Bell's Two Hearted Ale ($6) and my wife ordered a pint of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA ($6). Our server brought a small amount of sliced warmed bread to the table with a bowl of oil and balsamic vinegar and told us that more bread would be available shortly. When it never arrived we did have to ask her for that bread much later when we wanted it to dip in the sauces remaining from some of our food preparations. The one-page menu is actually quite varied. The portions are on the smaller tapas style, but that works to the advantage of people like us who want to try a variety of dishes and share with our companions. The menu expresses that the food is served family style and that "dishes may arrive at your table at different times to ensure that your food comes to you as fresh as possible." We choose to skip the three PEI mussel variations, and from the remaining 15 offerings we selected: Olives and Almonds ($6) Thai Eggplant Salad ($8) Scotch Egg ($5) Wild Mushroom Soup ($7) Korean BBQ Chicken Wings ($9) Gnocchi ($9) Seared Diver Scallops ($15) Mediterranean olives and spicy Marcona almonds were an attractive and tasty first dish to arrive and start our evening's palate adventure. The Eggplant Salad used local farm raised Japanese eggplant, shallot, cilantro, Thai chili, and our server was kind enough to have the peanuts served on the side. The spice level was just right. The Scotch Egg was perfectly cooked to a soft-yolk center and surrounded by house-made sage sausage with a good mustard sauce on the side. Tasty sausage nicely crisped. The Mushroom Soup was rich with a nice earthy flavor. The Chicken Wings were small but meaty drumsticks with just a little kick and a crispy outside flavored with ginger, scallions and sesame seeds. The Gnocchi were tender in their brandy-cream with bacon and slivered almonds. The Scallops were seared perfectly and had a great flavor with a creamy leak fondue and topped with chopped heirloom tomatoes. Every single one of our dishes was delicious, and sharing that many dishes among four people was more than sufficient. There was not a single dish that I would hesitate to order again. While we were sympathetic to the many customers who were waiting for a table, with so many different dishes pleasing our palates up to this point, we had to answer in the affirmative when our server asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. Of the four items offered, two were made in-house and two came from the Café Sarah down the street. We decided on three choices. The Opera Cake ($6) - a vanilla sponge cake layered with coffee cream, wrapped in chocolate ganache and topped with whipped cream. A Whole Lemon Tart ($6) topped with powdered sugar. And finally, a Coconut Milk Pot de Crème ($6) - dark chocolate spiced with cinnamon, all-spice, chili, and topped with whipped cream. The Lemon Tart was made in-house and the other two came from Sarah. While all three desserts were enjoyed, the tart Tart was the table's favorite, and the Opera definitely scored a high note coming in a close second. Coffee and espresso were average. I really would have enjoyed a more robust coffee. Service was good. It was probably a young family member who was quite sufficient in seeing that our water glasses were kept filled. Different servers saw that food was promptly brought from the kitchen to our table and our main server was efficient without dropping a beat once the restaurant was over flowing. With our table being located in the back corner of the restaurant, the two votive candles did not give off sufficient light for me to read my menu and I had to resort to my phone's flashlight app. But the atmosphere was perfect for dining. I'm rounding this up a half-star because they serve brown sugar cubes with coffee.

Soup & wine!

Tonight we went as soon as it opened. We decided to grab a seat at the bar. I had a glass of white wine & the hubs had a couple different beers on tap. It was restaurant week: we each ordered off the three course meal for $30. I had the parsnip & apple soup, crab cake & Apple/fennel slaw, and the opera cake for dessert. He had the wedge salad, steak & frites, and the vanilla cream custard for dessert. The soup was a massive bowl, the wedge salad was huge! The steak was also at least ten ounces. The sauce that came with the crab cakes was a great fancy tarter sauce. Food was good, owner was really nice & great atmosphere. We would definitely return. Oh and the bathroom was clean & cute!

About to sit down to our first course of our elopement dinner!

Cloudy, rainy, foggy, not the best day to be traveling to the Adirondacks when the Fall colors are…read moreat their peak. Surprisingly enough, there was a spot along the Northway just outside of Warrensburg that still managed to show off its rainbow sherbet of colors. Our objective, however, was to meet my sister in Chestertown for dinner at O. P. Fredricks. Arriving at 4 PM when they opened there were already a few people in the bar and in the dining room. They don't take reservations, so it was wise to arrive early. By 4:30 there were people waiting for a table. The atmosphere inside is truly Adirondack with hewn wood beams and paneling. Before I forget, the chairs are really comfortable. The menu was surprisingly, large. In addition to the evening's specials, which included three entrées, there were a dozen shareable appetizers (emphasis on "shareable"), four salads, 19 regular entrées (all accompanied by a fresh salad and bread [we never received any bread, but I didn't see it served to other tables either]), four steaks, at least a dozen different handheld sandwiches, quesadillas, and a kids' menu. There is a full bar including a half dozen drafts. Our beverages to start were a Wolf Hollow draft Camp Out Stout ($8), a Saranac Ginger Beer ($4), and a glass of Mondavi Chardonnay ($7). The portion size of the Baked Brie ($11) was truly shareable. The brie was warmed without being runny, served on top of a tasty garlic bread made from pressed hamburger bun slices, and topped with a melba sauce. It was so delicious! Just like the appetizers, entrée portions are large. We each took half of ours home. My sister was very pleased with her Seafood Stuffed Portobello ($26) - the stuffed portobello was broiled and topped with shrimp scampi and, as all of our entrées, served over the house rice pilaf. My wife's Scallops Rockefeller ($31.95) included sautéed scallops (oddly on one side only), mushrooms, chopped bacon, and baby spinach, finished with an anisette flambé, and served over the previously mentioned rice pilaf. Another tasty dish. My choice was their Jambalaya ($28). It was a delicious combination of sautéed chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, mixed peppers, onions, and diced tomatoes mixed with the ubiquitous rice pilaf. It had just the right amount of spiciness for my taste to make it a thoroughly enjoyable meal. To wrap things up, we shared the Maple Bread Pudding ($7) with cups of coffee ($3 each). The bread pudding was moist with just enough maple flavor to satisfy a sweet craving. Service throughout was very attentive and friendly. Did I mention how comfortable the chairs are? And yes, their rice pilaf does go very well with everything. We're looking forward to a future visit. UPDATE: The Jambalaya is soooo good the 2nd day, I suggest you order it as takeout to eat the following day. And they are even nice enough to have removed the tails from the shrimp before the dish is served.

For the days they aren't open for lunch they have a sandwich bar + paper bags so you can take lunch with you. It's good quality sandwich stuff too - ham , turkey , roast beef; Cheddar , American ; 3 different types of breads. And condiments! Dinner reservations should be made in advance if you want to eat in the 5-6 range. We were here often since it was easier. We enjoyed our meals. Likely since it was close to Labor Day their kitchen staff was dwindling (and not sure Covid has done to their restaurant staff experience in general) so patience is everything. When we visited there was one cook. Their burgers and salads and soups and fries and kids meals are all very good. They have great beer / wine selections. There's no point to drive an hour away to eat every night when you have a great place right there. But definitely don't forget to make reservations :)

My goodness how much has changed in eleven years! That's how long it has been since we last…read morevisited Paradox Brewery on the south side of Schroon Lake. Their new location in North Hudson is huge and wonderful. Coincidentally, I just realized after reading my previous review that we were here this time on their twelfth anniversary, July 26th. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PB! Being in Schroon Lake for a memorial visit, it seemed reasonable to travel another twelve miles north to pay PB a visit before returning home. Their parking lot was almost full at 7:30 on a Saturday night. It was amusing to notice the car license plates from so many different states (Canada is still understandingly boycotting the US). There being a 20 to 30 minute wait for a table, we managed to snag two unreserved stools at the bar. I chose to request a Paradox Helles (German style pale lager) while my wife went with a Ginger Hibiscus Cider. Both were excellent. While my wife munched on a House Made Pretzel, I thoroughly enjoyed a Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of spicy coleslaw and potato chips. I dumped the coleslaw (which I didn't find spicy at all) on top of the pulled pork and really enjoyed the combined flavors, textures, and tenderness of the pork on the toasted brioche roll. It was messy but delicious. Their pizzas looked good as I saw them pass by. Next visit may need to be on a weekday when they are less likely to be so busy. Service was excellent considering how busy they were.
