This is a fantastic beautiful park along Eagle Creek! With that said, the only negative was the $8…read moreday-use fee. Other parks with day-use fees around Portland currently usually charge $5, but they do have an annual pass you can get for a certain group of parks if you plan on visiting them regularly. There is a restroom (not just a porta-potty, but an actual restroom. Yay!), a playground, baseball diamond, and lots of picnic tables. Some of the picnic tables have in-ground charcoal BBQ pits, too. They also have a picnic shelter you can pay to reserve. For hiking, they have a few different trails to choose from and all were very well-maintained when we visited. One of the trails is even accessible for folks with mobility issues, all flat and wide. The park & trails have plenty of huge trees for shade, and the big main trail goes along the creek in several places. There are even a few spots where you can hang out right along the creek shore. Aside from the easy accessible trail, I'd say the other trails are mild to medium in difficulty just due to some of the hilly inclines, but we saw families with younger kids walking them without a problem.

It's more of a butte in height, rather than a mountain, so don't let the name discourage or mislead you. They have a parking lot at the top and a loop trail with inclines you can explore in under an hour. There's also a large covered picnic shelter at the top with attached restroom facilities. They have a couple of open, grassy areas if you want to play frisbee or bring some other yard games. At the moment (October 2023), the only downside was there is a new residential subdivision being built next to it, so there was a lot of construction noise on that side of the trail.

This nature park is somehow both beautifully maintained and not adequately maintained at the same…read moretime. Important to note that it is a 'nature park' and not a 'city park' which means fewer amenities (no playgrounds and only one restroom in the main parking lot at the Mather Road entrance) and most importantly, no pets or bikes. There are rules for a reason. There are multiple trails that connect to various neighborhoods and loop up to a Summit Trail, however we didn't get any views from the summit. I've started a hike from the Mather Road entrance and it is all up hill for the first stretch. Our most recent experience was better when we parked part way up the hill and started our hike off of SE Talbert Street to connect to the Park Loop Trail. Unfortunately, the posted signs about poison oak were accurate and the trails were covered in poison oak. And while the trails were easy to navigate, the plants are overgrown and crossing the path, so it is hard to avoid contact. I recommend a change of clothes and/or wet wipes to avoid getting poison oak from your stroll. The area is a nice option on hot or rainy days due to the canopy of trees, but not recommended for young children or those with mobility issues. It is a beautiful short hike and you feel away from it all, even though you are close to the city. The restroom was clean and there is shelter that can be rented for events.

There are many trails to choose from. I choose to do the park loop, west ridge, and summit and it was a nice little loop that took about an hour or so. It had snowed the morning of, so the trails were muddy so I would definitely recommend hiking boots. I would definitely come back!

We reserved campsite #4 in an attempt to get out of the city for a taste of Mother Nature's beauty and fresh air. Although the location is great the site was horrible. We arrived to a big open area for the "tent-only" spots where there were no trees or anything dividing the 3 spots from one another. Spots #5,4,and 3 are less than acceptable. Meanwhile, the entire rest of the campground was descent. So, If you are a tent camper and want a little privacy don't rent any of these 3 spots, but instead get a trailer spot so you can have some privacy where your neighboring campers cant see everything you have and watch you eat dinner and build a fire! We may return for the beautiful view and a cold river swim, but have learned our lesson. $17/night was a total ripoff.

Rooster Rock State Park has some hiking trails and a gold course, but I come to hang on the…read morebeautiful river beaches. It's located in the Columbia Gorge, which is my happy place. Regarding the beaches, to the west are the family beaches and those that prefer to wear clothing. To the east are the clothing optional beaches. If you choose to go to the clothing optional, it's all good, no gawking, just people enjoying the beach and water in whatever way is comfortable for them. For me, that's a swimsuit. In the simmer when the river is low, the beaches are wider. And the water is surprisingly warm. Not tropical warm, but refreshing! Located just past Vista Point and before Multnomah Falls and the other 6 waterfalls along I-84, you can do all of this in one day. Or just spend the entire day at Rooster Rock enjoying walks, a swim, a picnic. Or do the hikes and waterfalls and come back here for a picnic and sunset. The fee for parking is $5 and you pay at the booth as you enter the park. Then you can continue driving and park anywhere, depending which side of the river you want to hang out on. There is plenty of parking but it does get crowded on hot days. If you are taking the shuttle to Multnomah Falls or other sites along the Scenic Highway, you pick it up here, after you pay and park. It's just 30 minutes from Portland so if you are looking for something different to do, that doesn't really cost anything, and you enjoy nature, chilling in a beach or grass and picnicking, it's a nice spot.

Like any good citizen, he called the police, and around 2 a.m. that morning, the bomb squad came to our house to confiscate it. I totally slept through the entire thing. I'm pretty sure that was the only time anyone in our family has found anything really questionable at Berkeley. I grew up at this park, as it is literally right down the street from my parents' home. How lucky, right? When Oregon was cold enough to snow, we'd trek down there with our little plastic toboggans just to sled down one of the big hills. It was fun. Even now, it's a good place to meander while depressed, swing when you're happy, and pretend to be short enough to use the swinging monkey bars. And it's great, because the playground area is gorgeous and shaded, and great for lounging around, provided you've found a spot clear of dog doo. Oh, and have you tried playing tennis around midnight? Amazing. And hilarious. And so, so much fun. It's truly theBOMBdotcom, one could say.
