I hired Barton Custom Painting to paint the master bath, a long hallway, small gym area and two office areas in January 2017. My review is overdue, but I am now repainting all of the work that Barton Custom Painting did and don't like that I'm paying twice for the same work. I stopped Barton on the project mid-way before the office areas were started because the painting they were doing was so poor. While he will use the paint (Benjamin Moore) that you specify, he considers backrolling to smooth the paint as the 2nd coat. The backrolling pulled up the partially dry new paint and now there are globs of paint in places. There was absolutely NO wall prep before starting the job. These guys do a hurried job and contrary to their motto "leave the details to us" -- they are not detail oriented at all. The worst part of the job was the hallway. They scrimped on the paint so the old color shows thru (taupe over yellow), they left roller marks throughout the entire hallway, there are paint drips on the walls, and they painted on the alderwood woodwork casings.
At the end of the job, I told him that the hallway original paint was showing thru but he claimed they used two coats. The original paint was sprayed on when the house was constructed and there were no paint drips or roller marks. Any marks that I showed him that needed fixing, he simply blamed the prior paint job. Popped nailheads were painted over and no minor wall blemishes were fixed before they started painting. He was supposed to do wall prep before he painted but no wall prep was done.
Barton is a big, tall guy and he's very assertive if you question the quality of the work. He dismissed his helpers before the final walk to review the work, and he pressed me as to when the other painting projects would be starting. I didn't want to tell him that NO way was I hiring him to finish the paint work. His demeanor scared me, and I settled up with him on the costs mainly because he's very intimidating. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before hiring him. One reviewer had exactly the same experience that I did with Barton Paint. I would never have this guy back in my home because his work is very poor quality. read more
