The Beauty Within Medi Spa, situated neatly on the high street of a lovely little village called Cowbridge, offers a range of beauty treatments, as well the latest in aesthetic laser therapy, skin rejuvenation and hair removal techniques. I've been the joyous recipient of an Exotic Steam Rasul experience, where you spend 45 minutes in a darkened Arabic temple applying different coloured medicinal chakra muds to specific areas of the body. The idea is to gently inhale the steam infused by pure herbs, which, according to the spa's website, apparently helps cleanse your respiratory system, smooth the skin and detoxify the body, while revitalising your chi energy. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon. The best part is the warm shower that pours down from the ceiling, rinsing your skin, and making you feel like kids caught out in the rain after an afternoon of making mud pies. The Exotic Steam Rasul is a creative gift for the difficult-to-buy-for couple - trust me, it's way better than a John Lewis voucher! The Beauty Within website offers a full price list, and once in a while they even have a 10% off treatments voucher which you can print out and bring along. There's no train station in Cowbridge, unfortunately (the closest is Llantwit Major and it's not really in walking distance), but you can take a bus out here, although your best bet is probably just to drive.

From the full Welsh breakfast in the restaurant to the cozy rooms with great landscape views, this gem was extraordinarily comfy. Great chefs in the restaurant, full service bar and the most delicious desserts. It has a beautiful pool with a nice hot sauna. I wished I could stay longer than 4 days during my visit. I almost wanted to buy out a room permanently. This place is a very beautiful part of Pembrokeshire Wales, not easy to get to. I wish I could move there.

After finishing a week filled with stress, I took a journey down from Plymouth here and when I left I literally felt as though I was walking on a cloud. When I got my massage, I had to ask what wonderful aroma I could smell as it was literally the most magnificent thing that had ever permeated my nostrils. No Joke. Kerry then told me that it was the Neroli from Neal's Yard that she had mixed with other essential oils to create a wonderful perfume. I will be rushing out to buy myself a bottle of each of the essential oils I asked her to write down for me! Thank you sooooooooooooooo much Kerry for alleviating all my stress. I have a fair amount of back problems and after another sleepless night I though 'sod it I'm going.' Disappointedly my masseuse was not a 6 foot blonde bombshell, but I dealt with that blow and paid anyway, £25 if you've been left pondering. She was lovely and we had a good chat as she eased the knots out of my back, I felt so relaxed afterwards and slept like a baby for a good week without any back problems. They also do, skin care, tinting, hand and feet, waxing and even ear piercing. I can't speak about any of them unfortunately. It's worth the little trip just outside of the 'Diff.

Phoned them before we left to say my partner and I…read moreneed a relaxing evening at a spa and to find out prices etc. It was £35 each so quite a bit more than we have payed for this sort of thing in the past (for example the relaxation centre £20 per person for an evening session) but that did include a light meal so we thought we'd go somewhere different, I have to admit it sounded lovely over the phone. So we drove the £18 miles in rush hour which took over an hour. We arrived at the manor house and asked where the spa was and were pointed to what looked and sounded like a public swimming pool. At reception I asked where the spa was, Do you mean like massage and that? The giggly girls behind the desk asked. That's upstairs she said. We debated going up but decided we'd go for a look round then make our decision. We walked upstairs and through the bar/ restraunt and the lady at the desk showed us in and we waited in the 'relaxation room' which was nextdoor to the bar and the spa information desk where you could hear the phone ringing (not very relaxing). She showed us the massage rooms which were not being used and they looked lovely and I'm sure the massages would be but we were just there to use the facilities for £35. We were told if we went downstairs we would be shown around the sauna and pool etc. Again we went to the front desk and were told It's all just down there to the right. We walked down, had to walk through separate changing rooms, in which we both had a 'sauna, steamroom and showers sign'- so I'm guessing we would not be able to relax in there as a couple. And through to the poo which had around 15 people in it from young to old. Needless to say we walked out! Everything was wrong with the place! A spa? You would not want to walk from the relaxation room to the pool in a dressing gown and we could not even have a sauna together. A meal in the 'resteraunt' aka bar would not have been relaxing or romantic. Maybe if there were charging £12 for a light meal and use of the small pool, sauna and steamroom it would have been about right but £35!!!!!
