This pub has several themed bars which are all decorated differently in an olde worlde style with cider presses for tables and antlers for lamps, you can spend all night looking around and the more you look the more strange and unusual things you will spot. The main entrance into the building is built to resemble a stage coach with seating inside it, to the rear, adjoining the building there is a giant boot just like the one out of the nursery rhyme about the old woman who lived in a shoe which houses a slide for the children and adults if you can fit down it!!!! This pub is a MUST for a visit, the owners are very friendly and will tell you the history of the establishment and give you a tour of the various different rooms.

In all honesty I was expecting a little bit of a 'wicker man' vibe but the pub is populated by friendly locals and staff who are more than happy to bring you into the fold. There's a decent selection of beers and ciders including some local Sharps beers and the ever deadly Cornish Rattler cider! All the food is prepared by Pat (the landlady) who supplements a fairly extensive menu with 5 or 6 specials that change pretty frequently - everything from freshly caught fish to roast pheasant is on offer. On a Wednesday the fish and chip van rolls into this lovely little hamlet and you can place your orders at the pub and enjoy a couple of pints before either taking your dinner home or eating it there! There wasn't any music on when we were there but there was plenty of signs up advertising entertainment to keep you occupied in this sleepy little place. The pub was recently taken over by St Austell Brewery, so there's a good range of their beers, plus a couple of guest ales. This includes one local beer brewed in Branscombe. It's quaint, delicious, comfy and sits in one of the most stunning areas of the Devon coast. It is, quite simply, a perfect pub.

They have two lovely gardens and the Inn itself is16th Century with thick stone walls, slate floors and a really relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The Smugglers Den Inn is a 16th century thatched inn with family, beer garden, childrens play area and ample parking. The beer garden is where we like to crash and relax. While the kids play on the apparatus we chill with a ool drink in the sun and order from the menu full of lovely food and they always have plenty of specials on the board all made using the freshest local ingredients. It is situated in a little village called Trebellan, near Cubert, less than than 15 minutes from Newquay. You approach down a steep, high sided road which is typically Cornish and the pub is right before you and very welcoming. They have regular live entertainment and also have an annual Real Ale and Pie Festival which is is it's 9th year. It's definitely worth pulling off the beaten track and seeking it out for a refreshing treat.

The food is quite traditional, but with a wonderful eastern influence. Beautifully presented with fantastic flavours, every course was a delight and I thought the bill was very reasonable.
