Our family recently moved to Anaheim from Westminster and my 5-yr-old daughter now goes to this school. While I'm no expert on other schools in other cities, compared this school to the last one my daughter went to, this has been a wonderful experience to say the least. First off, the school is located in a residential area so it's somewhat hidden away from the noise and distractions of the main public roads. Never once in the the months that I've been here have I heard anyone hoking at each other or yelling profanity for parking spaces. The parents all seem content with getting their kids to school on time and not looking to start trouble with others. Secondly, the school is really clean and has no graffiti or barbwire/torn tarp that would make the school look like a juvenile detention center. It also doesn't scream "I'm a school" with large displays or oversized fonts of the name of the school, but more so just a handful display of handwritten notes of upcoming events and reminders of important occasions. There are fences all around the school and they are well constructed and maintained and not painted in different colors like a playground. The classrooms are also really clean and well organized and the equipments also seem quite modern. But to me, the best that Barton has to offer are the teachers and staff at the school. I don't know the names of all of them but they always seem guinely nice, attentive and caring to the students at the school. A couple of times when I drop off my daughter, some of the staff at the front entrance greet the students by their names and hug them so that was quite touching. For me personally, I interact mostly with Mrs. Uguen since she's my daughter's teacher and Mrs. Uguen has been wonderful in the ways that she cares for my daughter and teaches her the things that my wife and I could never get our daughter to do. Mrs. Uguen is also very honest in her opinions about the areas that our daughter could improve on so we could help her develop those skills at home. There are a lot more that I could say about Mrs. Uguen but to us, she seems more like a trusted relative than a teacher and we truly appreciate her. Mr. Jack is another one of my favorites. I don't know how he does it but he's always in good spirits even after all those long walks back and forth to get afterschool students signed out. Most importantly, ever since my daughter started at this school, she's been a lot more open and less shy and she makes friends at school and even has playdates with them on the weekends which is a stark contrast from before. Overall, Barton has been a surprised gem in the new city that we now call home and we couldn't be happier that we found it. I totally disagree with other reviews that labeled the teachers at the school as too strict. Children of tender age should be taught the things that not all parents know how or even are aware of, so I'd say leave it up to the caring teachers to help guide our children while the parents are caught up in the rat race. My children have all gone to Barton Elementary from first to sixth grade. Most of the teachers were phenomenal. However, one was unbelievably great! The sixth grade gate teacher, who goes by the nick name Ms. O is provably the most amazing teacher in all of Anaheim. Ms O teaches 6th grade gate and does an amazing job. I stayed in Anaheim so all my children could have the opportunity to be in her class. Literally! Many of the teachers my children have had were fantastic as well and all my children have gone on to excel in high school. All have gone on to college and I believe their exceptional performance was due to the great teachers at Barton and especially the fantastic job done by Ms O. I must be sure to recognize the many other teachers who provided a great education to my children. I can not name each and everyone of them. However, many Barton graduates go on to get their PHD's and excel in society in many ways. I can not say enough about the hard working teachers at Barton! This is the 1st time I ever write a review. My daughter started kindergarten here at Barton (Clara) Elementart. Her teacher's name was Mrs. Buman. This teacher was very rude with her classroom. She used to scream all the time to the point that my daughter couldn't sleep at night. Several parents complained during the school year but no one did anything about it. This neighborhood knows about her. Finally, school year ended. I registered again my daughter now in 1st grade thinking everything was left behind. 1 month in my daughter was beet up by 4 boys. Two boys tide her from her arms put her against the fence and got bit up by another 2 boys. My daughter has attention deficit and is very quiet and like to play by herself; obviously a nice target to have fun with and bully. I spoke to the Vise Principle about it and nothing was done. My daughter returned to school 2 days after the incident and this time the same children hit her in the stomach and kick her on the floor. My husband and I went to school again to speak to the "New Principal". We didn't feel they care very much about the situation. At this point my daughter didnt want to go to school. She couldn't sleep; cried during the night; got stomach sick, etc. We waited a couple of day for the school to call us on regards to the situation but they never did. The day she returns to school the Principal yells at me and my daughter on regards to her absences and says that she had spoken to the kids. Really? My question was why she didn't had a meeting with me and the kids parents. Why? I went to speak with my 1st grade teacher and she was not aware about the situation. We had to move from the city and registered my daughter in another school because in Clara Barton no one cared. At this point my daughter is having counseling by her new school because of all the damage she had while been in Clara Barton. read more
