Formerly was The Oaks of Bartlett…read more The rehab center is very good and the PT OT were friendly, nice and helped my mom recover. The nurses & nurses aides were attentive and helpful. They enjoyed their patients and responded nicely to them. Family were able to ask questions and got responses. This is NOT JUST ONE family with the following. You talk with others while there: The "Social Worker " is not certified from what I was told. Rolando, is USELESS. He says he will help find a place once the patient is leaving. He DID NOT. We had to push, ask questions, meet, etc. NOTHING was really offered. He finally said he had phone numbers to give us. That piece of paper with 10 facilities on it, was USELESS. I found 2 to be possibilities but those didn't pan out. On most, there is no distinction which are rehab, asst living, nursing. WHY THEY HIRE SOMEONE in this position, I do NOT understand. Anyone can hand out a paper or cards and leave if up to the family. He DID NOT make call/connections for us. He did tell us that they have info for those WHO CAN PAY which I figure is probably their 1st or 2nd floor residents. BE CAREFUL as Rolando will have an exit date. IF it is NOT reasonable, speak up. He was going to send MOM home by AMBULANCE as she was not mobile. I asked what we do once she arrives. He then changed the date. She was able to walk with assistance when she left on a later date. So, the patient is treated well, and rehab is good. IF you have lots of money to cover for residence afterwards, it's probably OK. However, there are even NICER places if you search ALDEN, Arbor Terrace in Naperville, Sunrise, some of the Heritage Woods, Asbury Gardens, Victory Center of Bartlett. Research and find one.

We adopted a dane/lab mix from Almost Home last year. I really appreciated the foster-to-adopt…read moresystem they have to give you a clearer idea of what the specific animal is all about. I've had dogs my whole life and when I filled out their paperwork I was of the opinion the only reason I might return a dog would be aggression or if my personal financial situation changed dramatically. The fostering system gave me a much better idea of what I was committing to in this case. My wife, kiddo, and I all came to meet the dog we thought we wanted and after that went well we took her home. It became immediately clear that this girl had not been indoors or socialized very much, if ever. I was very surprised to have essentially a 70lb puppy on my hands. This was more work than I expected, and it was more work than my family expected, but knowing we had time to work with her as a foster in our home environment provided a lot of confidence in seeing how it went. Almost Home was in regular contact to check in with us and provided us with enrichment toys, advice, and resources for taking her to training classes. There was never pressure to keep her, and it was always clear everybody was only interested in what was best for the animal. After a few weeks she was improving, but still more work than I expected, and Almost Home was happy to let us continue to foster until everybody was sure this would be a good fit. Our girl kept improving and we committed to the adoption. Eventually we were able to return our home to normal, and do so free of concerns things would be destroyed. The time and space that was provided to be sure this would all work out resulted in one of the best bonds I've ever had with a dog. We're inseparable these days, and we owe it to the support Almost Home and their volunteers offered throughout the process.

This place is more like a business rather than a non profit. Appears they purchase their puppies…read more Overpriced, PIF $900 but where did all the money go? Donations and volunteers, where did the money go. Especially when the dog is sick and they claim the pet wasn't sick when it left their facilities. Just my opinion. I really hope the people who run Anderson Humane read this review because I want to plead with them…read moreto give up this insane philosophy of keeping every animal alive no matter what. We adopted our cat 11 years ago from Andersons. She had been born in the shelter and was never adopted (until we took her home). She has extreme anxiety and never socialized in all those 4 years with other cats, nor do I believe humans very much. When we saw here there, sleeping with her chin on her LITTER BOX (which of course cats do not like, to sleep next to their own waste), acting very afraid and skittish. My husband went to pick her up to put her in the carrier and they quickly hustled her away from him, I'm sure because they didn't want us to see her feral behavior. I know you think you're doing a good thing not euthanizing any animals, but let me tell you from what I've observed: there are many things in life worse than death, and living in torment for 4 years is one of them. In addition to this woefully inadequate first 4 years, our cat has developed lifelong Chronic Rhinitis from a virus she picked up in her institutional life. She is 15 now and for about 3 or 4 years she has not played at all from fatigue--I've had older cats that play until they're way older than that, so its not just age. Because of her early institutional life, she is semi-feral--she has NEVER sat on our laps, she is impossible to give medication to, she struggles so severely if she is held, I'm afraid she'll dislocate something. Because of this, the only treatment she can get for her Chronic Rhinitis is antibiotic shots, and they have stopped working. I wish you could hear her struggle to breathe every night through her stuffed up airways. I fear she is in a constant state of agitation and anxiety caused by her breathing difficulty. At the very least she is definitely not living her best life: she should be playing, sitting outside under her favorite bush to watch the birds, and visiting us while we watch a movie at night- none of which she does anymore. This all comes down to your decision that keeping all animals alive at all costs is the best decision. A painless and humane euthanasia is a millions times less cruel and barbaric than insisting that your religious and/or philosophical ideology trumps all other considerations. This cat has suffered a lot because of *you*. If you work at this place, please reconsider your outlook and ideology. Making an animal without a voice suffer for years is sadistic and weird, especially when euthanasia causes no pain or distress. Are you really doing this because its what's best for the animal?
