The staff was nice & the food was tasty, but unfortunately the flow of service was executed so poorly that our experience at bartaco was overwhelmingly annoying. All of our food came out at drastically different times, with one of us receiving her food a good 20 minutes before the next person. One of us ordered a singular fish taco that came about 30 minutes after the rest of us had finally received our food. What a journey. Drinks were forgotten, food was mixed up, & overall it was just kinda a disaster. While the staff was super nice, this should've been one of those situations in which some items were taken off of our bill. The pork belly + crispy rice bowl was tasty (braised pork belly in sweet arbol chile glaze, sesame bean sprout salad, pickled red onions, crispy rice) but the portion was so itty bitty it was a almost shocking. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary with our teens. We love their tacos and apps. Churros are their all time favorite. We have been going to Bartaco for years! Pleasantly surprised to have seen some changes to the menu and seeing some old favorites return. I absolutely love the convenience of ordering on your phone and not having to flag anyone down when you'd like to place multiple orders of tacos or sides. In all our years visiting Bartaco we have never had a bad experience, the food has always been deliciously on point. Highly recommend the pork belly taco, I could eat an endless supply! Another favorite is the cauliflower taco which is surprisingly "meaty" for being a veggie taco. Definitely can't miss out on the street corn and green salsa! In my opinion, bartaco consistently has great food and even better tacos. Whether you're in Port Chester NY, Westport CT, Boulder CO or in Seaport Boston I've never been unhappy. This was my first time at the West Hartford location. It's in a cute little area surrounded by shops. Parking on a Saturday may not be easy, if you want to skip the circling and pay to park, you can walk over from the public lot about a 1/2 block away. The food as always was tasty, fresh and consistent. The only issue we had was with the margaritas. (And to be honest, it's really one of the only reasons I go.) This day they varied from order to order. Some were way too sour, some weren't even what we ordered , some had too much agave, and they would alternate between salt and no salt. Bartaco in West Hartford is too fun! I went with a large group of girls and we had a blast! We had delicious appetizers including cheesy corn and fried plantains which were so yummy. We were able to split the checks individually so props to the servers for keeping track of all that. I'm vegetarian so I got the mushroom, brussel sprout and cauliflower tacos which were all fabulous and packed with flavor in every bite. My only critique is that the music is loud and the environment is dark so if you are hard of seeing or hearing then this place might not be for you. The surf and turf is a lobster steak combo that has a perfect summer feel and taste. The Baja fish taco and crispy shrimp tacos are also a favorite with a crispy crunch and coleslaw that makes your tastebuds happy. My adult daughters have raved about this establishment for quite awhile. While visiting this weekend, I had my first opportunity to try it out. I must say they were spot on. The restaurant is large, loud and popular. Nevertheless, the waitstaff was friendly and efficient. They do tend to rely on QR ordering but were more than willing to help in person. The variety of tacos offered was excellent and I particularly loved the pork belly option as well as the Baja fish. The flavors were fresh and elevated beyond a typical offering. This was my 1st time at this location, I usually go to West Port. Hartford traffic overwhelms me but things went smooth this trip. There is parking in the from and back but you have to pay at the meter. Unfortunately it didn't work for me, so I had to download the app to pay. I walked into what I thought was Bartaco but it it was Barcelona. Apparently the two are right in front and behind each other. Bartaco is in the front lol. The ambiance in both was top tier lol. Once I got to the right establishment I was immediately greeted and asked where I'd like to sit. Everything was clean and very nice. After I chose my sit, I was asked how I'd like to order and if I was aware of the QR code and dragon card. I replied yes and placed my order through the qr. typically I'm used to not having many interactions with staff this way, but that was different here. The manager checked in and asked if everything with my order went okay. I pointed out that the price was a lil higher. When we checked I realized I ordered 2 street corns. He offered to take one off but I said I was okay, if e could just send the 2nd to go. I ordered Korean Bbq Ribeye Rice Bowl, Pork Belly taco, Street Corn, Pineapple Express and Churros. Each dish was brought out by a server that confirmed the order and greeted me with a smile. This was my 1st time trying a rice bowl and the Pineapple Express. The bowl was yummy but the kimchi was way too salty. When I removed it, everything else was perfect. The tacos are really small, like you can finish them in one bite, so I usually order 3. Pork Belly is my favorite. I love the flavor and the texture of the meat. The Street Corn is elote which I love. It's the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The Pineapple Express was a 10 out of 10! If I wasn't driving would've ordered another one. The flavor was delicious and is was not weak! The churros are always top tier. Perfectly crispy, warm and sweet. They come with two sauces. I find the chocolate to be overpowering. Very strong like dark chocolate meets expresso. The vanilla is lightly sweet yet very flavorful. The place was pretty busy on a Saturday a little after lunchtime; however, service was great. The hostess/server brought us water and explained the ordering process. They had a unique setup where you order on their website by scanning the QR code. They have regular menus also. We placed the orders and the appetizer came out in two minutes, super fast service. It was an order of fresh cooked tortilla chips and guacamole, it was authentic and tasty. I ordered three tacos, they were about 4 inches wide which the hostess explained prior. The flavors I chose were: -seared chorizo: ground pork with sweet onion, cilantro, smoky red chimichurri sauce -glazed pork belly: with spicy arbol chili sauce -baja fish: spicy tempura battered cod with chipotle slaw These were so good and a good price. The flavors intermingled with my taste buds. They had three different hot sauces on the tables; those were jalapeno, roja, and habanero. I did notice that they were a little bit disorganized; they mixed my husband's tacos with mine so we had to figure out which ones were which. Aside from that, everything was great. The margarita and food were 5 stars; I liked that I was able to pick the type of alcohol and mix; I had a perfect margarita and it was $10.50, which was a good price compared to the $13+ most places are charging now. Great tacos, but first you must navigate their ridiculous online menu, even when seated at a table. So when I'm dining with friends, the first 15 minutes of conversation shouldn't be us all trying to figure out how to order via the restaurant's app, while servers are just standing around chit chatting. Right? We'll that's what we experienced and it was beyond frustrating. Here are the ridiculous steps. First, the person paying must scan a QR code, enter their credit card info and then share another QR code from his/her phone with everyone else at the table. Then each person orders on their phone. But there's another trick they don't tell you, after you complete your order, you need to wait for a text. Then take the code from the text and enter it back in the app, or your order times out. How lovely. Who came up with this system, an angry IT nerd? Not sure about others, but that's not "service", that's work. In fact, it's what most of us hate doing at work, jumping through hoops for the IT department. And again, while my group navigated this bizarre system, two servers were just standing there enjoying a pleasant conversation. Now the worst part (yeah, just getting started here), because each order was placed separately on individual phones, the food came out at different times for each person. How wonderful. And because one person in our group (me), didn't see the text with a verification code, my food never came. It was long after others were finished that the error was realized. Another bizarre outcome of this insane system, instead of a server coming around and asking if we wanted a round of drinks, those in our party that were more tech savvy, ordered additional drinks, while others didn't think to do so until after additional rounds showed up. Seriously, how does this make for a good dining experience? It doesn't. Not at all. It actually took over our conversation, rather than enjoying a more pleasant, personal conversation. Food, yeah they make a good taco, but I would trade standing in line for 30-60 minutes at Los Tacos No.1 for this silly, inhumane digital app any day. read more

My food arrived earlier than my partners did, so I tried waiting by picking up meat pieces (pork, fish and shrimp) from my taco plate and nibbling. I was hungry because it was a late lunch. I was pleasantly surprised that every piece of meat had a different and unique flavor and I couldn't decide which to finish first! The taco tortilla was soft and fresh; and there was no need for any additional sauces as the tacos were juicy enough without dripping. My partner ordered falafel and chicken and found those to be okish, nothing special. We like tres leches and decided to try it here. For a large group that's a problem, so she left the trays and walked away.. then- 20 minutes later another round of tacos came out mixed bag. I have been coming for years and they consistently serve some of my favorite cocktails in West Hartford. When dining out, you scan a barcode on your table, place your order on your phone, and the servers will bring you your food. When you're done eating, you can pay on your phone. It has a great outdoor patio that is packed during the warmer months so be sure you call ahead to try to get a spot. Inside is cozy with warm lighting. The service has always been good. Visited this location for the first time on my birthday. I was able to choose my seating in the restaurant whether to be indoors or outdoors at arrival. I decided to sit outside due to the weather being warm out. Even though the restaurant was super busy our waiter and one of the managers made sure to stay on top of things I asked for. As well as being informative on being able to order for myself or having the waiters order for me. Upon receiving my birthday dessert I was given the choice to have a song sang to me. Finally got to try this place usually packed and couldn't get a spot. We were the first in the place today as they opened in the the morning. We got ourselves a rice bowl and Tacos with some chips and salsa and street corn. Closing out with a gelato cone with vanilla flavor. Everything tasted great, and was served very quickly the portions are very small. I got the Pork belly rice bowl, it was a bit sweet and the only thing that didn't I Teresa me that the vegetables were cut too long, rather than diced. Being cut long they fill up the bowl leaving less place for the meat and rice. The Tacos are tiny too. But the chips are large like a flour tortilla size. This place is pretty popular as it filled up pretty fast even during a weekday for lunch. The inside is pretty spacious with an outdoor seating available.
