Frida is a Mexican restaurant that is Frida Kahlo themed. I've been following them on social media for a while and was excited to check them out. I love their decor and the service was excellent. There is a parking lot also. I started off with a hibiscus tea which was refreshing. They offer complimentary salsa and chips, also delicious. We ordered guacamole as well, super good but definitely on the pricier side. My meal was a recommendation from the server, I was not disappointed. I was torn because I wanted everything on the menu. I had the 4 Tacos Campechanos which had steak, chorizo, nopales, and green onions, on corn tortillas. It came with a salsa Verde and it was so good. I've never had nopales (green cactus) but I loved it. I can't wait to go back try out more menu items!

This place is so cute! Love the decor and vibe. It's a small, cozy space filled with color and Friday Kahlo. The host and server were very friendly and food arrived quickly after ordering. They were patient as everyone figured out what they wanted to order. I ordered the mole enchiladas and the other members of the group ordered alambres, one with steak and one with carnitas. My enchiladas plate was HUGE. It came with 3 enchiladas stuffed with chicken and a large side of rice and beans. The alambres were delicious, I especially liked the carnitas, but the steak was great and had a really nice flavor. My party was a little jelly of my plate though because they didn't realize theirs did not come with rice and beans. We ended up ordering a side of rice and beans. It was smaller than the amount I had on my plate and when we got the check we realized it was $7 which felt a bit steep. Overall I really enjoyed my meal and experience! We'll definitely be returning.

Super chill place. Great service - attentive but didn't crowd your space. The complimentary chips taste really good. Not a huge fan of the salsa. We felt like it tasted closer to pasta sauce ?? Margarita was super solid. My wife got a mocktail that also tasted very good. Loved the Picada Frida. A TON of meat for the price. Felt clean, parking was easy, and the prices were very fair. When it comes to taste this is one of my favorite recently tried Mexican restaurants. Pro tip: if you follow them on IG they'll provide free churros!

Frida's is such a great place!! I went to their happy hour and it did not disappoint! I had the Paloma to drink. I also ordered the Guacamole and chicken nachos. The bartender was amazing and put so much care into each drink. They were picturesque. Sitting at the bar is always a treat. The music is great and the service is amazing as well. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

I joined a friend for lunch at Frida and everything was good. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and the food and drink presentations are always great. I got the green enchiladas and a mocktail. The enchiladas were very filling and flavorful. I was able to combine mango and pineapple for my mocktail and it was the most refreshing drink on such a hot day. The service is always great and quick.

Our servers were amazingly knowledgeable. A member of our party has Celiac and can't have a drop of gluten and the staff was both careful and kind. I had the spicy avocado margarita and it was stunningly delicious! My meal was the shrimp bowl. The food was very fresh. It was an ample portion, yet it was so good I ate every bite! Look forward to having their churros; they are very yummy! PS: I loved the Frida Khalo portraits that adorned the walls! You should definitely go!

After a long day of traveling and completing an 8-hour course for my guard card, which included a test, I decided it was time to celebrate. I came to this restaurant and ordered the flautas with chicken. Mari chose two beef tacos and two pork tacos, and we decided to share everything. The flautas were perfectly crunchy, just the way I like them, but unfortunately, the chicken was lacking in flavor and came off as a bit bland. On the other hand, the pork tacos were absolutely delicious, while the beef tacos were pretty average. I have to give this place credit for its catchy name and the beautiful Frida wall

Grabbed some tacos from Frida at Taste of Hartford and was SO impressed. They were light and flavorful- and the salsa was delicious. Can't wait to check out this restaurant to explore the rest of their menu!

Great spot but seats less than 50 probably so don't bring a party of 10 during peak time and except to grab a seat Happy hour offers some great values but is only offered at the BAR - the tables near the bar are not eligible. Their guacamole is great and it's extra yummy when paired with the pork carnitas tacos. The chicken flautas for me were a little bland and I would have preferred them a title more crunchy but everyone has different taste. Love the garnishes that came with the flautas to make them taste fresh. Someone sitting near me had the quesadilla and it looked banging so I'm getting that next time. Service at the bar is efficient most of the time but not overly friendly - this time we had to ask for the check multiple times but I still had a little drink left so hubby had to wait for me anyway so no big deal

Drove out to this cute strip mall-esque Mexican spot to take part in their highly regarded happy hour. Kind of upset that they only allow happy hour at the bar, but don't accommodate children at the bar, so we were stuck at a half booth. We started with the fundito. It was greasier than I'm used to but still quite good. We finished the app. You shouldn't otw it comes with two small tortillas and they up charge if you need more. I ordered the Birria for my main course. It does not come with any side dishes. It looked oily and after that fundito experience I chose to just box it to go. Definitely not a spot to bring kids. Their 'kids meal was two lukewarm tenders (menu said 3) and a tiny scoop of rice and the tiniest cup of apple juice I've seen. They also served me and my husband first and had to go back for my sons. Two stars. They weren't outright hostile, the restaurant seemed clean, it just wasn't as advertised and definitely not a spot for any party with kids.

We stopped by for a quick dinner before heading to see a show. This was the perfect place. First the chips. Actually the salsa. It wasn't too spicy and as a result I had to fight my dining partner for it. It was really good. We then started with the Colombian style empanadas which seemed to have the corn flour with chicken. They were hearty and unlike some others we've had. Delish. I then had the Birria tacos and really enjoyed them. They weren't greasy and the dipping made the dish. Very filling as well. The enchiladas were also quite good too. Service was great and the manager made us feel very welcome. Plus it's got a great decor.

We happened to be in the area and found Frida through Yelp. The restaurant had great decor including a day of the dead display in the entry. The bar looked like a great spot to hang out and with all the beautiful crafted drinks why not!! We found the staff to be very attentive with water and chips which was greatly appreciated. I had a house margarita which was quite good and the virgin drink, Frida mocktail with strawberry purée was awesome. For dinner we ate the guacamole and chips. I will say the guacamole potion was a little smaller than expected, but the way the meal all worked out it was perfect. For the entrees we enjoyed the FRIDA HUARACHE which features a handmade corn tortilla, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, with Vegetables. For my entree I enjoyed the FRIDA'S FAJITAS with Mexican rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, cream, guacamole, shredded cheese, bell peppers, onions, 4 corn tortillas and shrimp. Portions were great, price point was very fair. All and all a great experience.

"Oh, Mexico It sounds so sweet with the sun sinking low…read moreMoon's so bright like to light up the night Make everything all right" (James Taylor) Of all the West Hartford restaurants I've been to, this must be the most "un-West Hartford like" place I've ever seen. It's unpretentious, it has limited indoor seating (but there are outdoor options weather permitting), customers are served out of Styrofoam containers, and there are no booths. It felt more like we were in a beachside taqueria than in Fancy Pants West Hartford Center. But Oh, My Sweet Lord, are the food and value fantastic. We ordered at the counter after perusing their large and (honestly) somewhat confusing menu, and eventually settled on a Mexican Street Corn Equites ($7.50) as a shared appetizer, an El Jefe (Cheese) Quesadilla ($11), and an El Soltero Two Taco Plate ($14.95). The portions were huge, so for our $41 after tax and tip, half of everything came home and we'll be getting four servings from that $41. We started off with some complimentary chips and salsa. I fortified my salsa with some of the four hot sauces on my table, and I'm pretty sure at least one of them was home made. The Street corn appetizer was incredible. It was served in a big creamy bowl with cotija cheese and chili lime aioli. Amazing flavor, and a big portion too. The El Jefe was an immense portion served with four sides - salsa Mexicana, cotija cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. There was a generous variety of melted cheeses inside the quesadilla. My El Soltero is advertised as a "Personal Sized Meal for One", but that has to be a misprint because the amount of food for $14.95 is ridiculous. It included two purple corn tortillas, my choice of taco protein, guacamole, pico de gallo, taco slaw, and rice & beans. I went with Pescado (fried fish) and Crispy Shrimp as my proteins. Everything came piled into a Styrofoam container, so I could create my own masterpiece. My dinner was fantastic. Throw in the beautiful artwork inside and outside the building, the Mexican music, and free parking (Free in West Hartford !!!) and you'll see why this was such a fun night. So go visit and be sure to leave your West Hartford expectations (price point and otherwise) behind.

Good enough tacos in a little saloon…read more Drove by this place a bunch, and never gone here since there's a ton of food places around to try. This was their turn to try, and we made the trek here to give it a shot. The place is next to a Whole Foods with some small signage to indicate that it's there. The mural up front is very pretty and a stark contrast to the rest of the area. When you go inside, it feels like an old saloon, a little dark and a little unkempt but not off puttingly so. They had three menus to look at, and none of them matched. I asked about a walking taco they offered and was told it was not available. Asked if they would edit the menu and was told they would not because they were limited in menus. So the staff were a little irritated by us being there, which falls into the saloon atmosphere. We get some elote and some tacos, take them to go and after about 15 minutes we had food. Went to the car and dug in. The corn of the elote was not fresh, lead to soggy bites of corn covered in mayo and stale fire Cheetos. There was no attempt to make the tacos, instead we were given a plate of toppings with tortillas on top. The meats were lightly seasoned and not spicy, and I suspect they were hoping the tortillas would get warmed up by the food because they were tough and inflexible when we got them. Given the area, there's a lot of places to eat around there. You need to stand out to draw in patrons, and they don't seem to be trying so much anymore. They might be a decent bar, but not so much a good restaurant.
