Mural saves the day

It's a Sh!t show. Stay alert and beeline to the underground, where it's spacious & pretty clean. Street level is the opposite of eye candy. Eye soap? Eye liver? Zombie Apocalypse? The tired and wretched walk the earth here, along with throngs of good folks just trying to get home or to work. I hear the city is erecting guard towers to add a prison ambiance. The large mural is really nice.

I am so happy that they finally installed the new jump proof fare gates at this station! I was really getting sick of seeing all of those fare evaders jumping over the old fare gates and not wanting to pay their fair share. I am seeing less troublesome homeless people at and near this station now. This station seems more clean and safer now!

A super convenient BART station in a prime location. It's architecturally interesting and not that dirty. I encounter much worse on the buses. How can you not be a fan?

We come in peace.

What? Another BART station that smells like piss? You've gotta be kidding!! Ew. But it's a little cleaner than the 16th street stop....still some scary characters wandering around but again, not as bad as 16th St.... Come out during the day and there's a lot going on nearby.

This station drops you off right in the middle of 24th Street. What's not to love about that?

I like this Bart station because El Farolito is right outside.

We have become cynical about the public good, and that is a loss; the social contract is made real through infrastructure projects. I have used the Civic Center station probably a couple hundred times. It used to be, for a decade, the closest to my workplace. I am quite familiar with it. That includes at all hours. Despite my fondness for mass transit, I have to report that this station is probably the single worst of those I know well. I swear this is true, and you can confirm it easily enough on the internet: the elevators have broken down due to human feces being stuck in the machinery. There is just an overwhelming population of troubled souls in the neighborhood. They need help; I describe the situation not to condemn the individuals but to lament the state of our diverse democracy. I still use Civic Center. I would not warn people away. I would say that if you are not comfortable with the Muni or BART to begin with, you will have qualms about this specific site. That is all.

I had and continue to have so many misgivings about the Central Subway project (spending $1.6…read morebillion for 1.7 miles of tunnel and only three new stations is a horrible waste of taxpayer money). But it's over now, and I can't deny that at least two of the three new stations are great, and I like that the T-Third Street is finally its own line again--plus its new route makes more sense than its original route. The worst thing about this station is its name. Stop using slashes in the names of transit stops! And transit lines, while you're at it. In most cases, the slash is to include additional information (which is why a slash is bad, because slashes mean either/or, while hyphens [-] *can* mean and, but they don't always), but in this case, they just chose Yerba Buena and Moscone. Huh? Yerba Buena what? Island? Avenue? Gardens? Center for the Arts? And you mean Moscone Center, right? Well, anyone who knows what and where the Moscone Center is also knows about all the Yerba Buena stuff, and vice versa. So why not just choose one name? Moscone Station. See? I solved that for you. Back to the station itself. Almost a year after opening (and before the pre-APEC deep clean), it was still practically spotless. There isn't too much graffiti, and the station itself is gorgeous, from the platform to the mezzanine to the escalators and stairs to the small area with public art at street level. The station is much deeper underground than I expected it to be. There's plenty of room at the bottom of the stairs and escalators, so it should never really feel crowded, except possibly on the platform at times. Realistically, I probably won't catch or get off the train at this station very often, but it's neat that it's here. While they're still clean, you should check out all three new stations.

Very clean and easy to navigate. It was our first time riding so we had high hopes and were not…read moredisappointed.
