Barry's Miami Beach is an excellent training facility that teaches running and weight lifting. I learned how to run faster, pace myself and blend running into my overall workout regiment. Also Barry's taught me about strength at an achievable level for an amateur. Historically I lifted 2 to 3 pound weights in ballet barre classes. Barry's has helped me develop to 10-15 pound weights for better muscle strength. The only "cons" of Barry's are the price and the singular focus on run/lift. My greatest weight loss and muscle tone has been at full service gyms like equinox. I work out longer at equinox and ultimately burn more calories blending running, rowing and elliptical with barre and yoga. Equinox as a full service gym is half the price for a monthly membership. Moreover, Equinox runs promotions such as free membership through the end of 2023 for a 12 month membership in 2024, and the monthly membership is $210 corporate. Notably Barry's corporate locations offer discounted membership and class packs for my employer but Barry's Miami Beach doesn't accept them. I ended up with Barry's corporate and Barry's Miami class packs. Barry's serves an important purpose. When I want to push my running legs and lift heavy, Barry's Miami Beach is the place. Barry's has good treadmills with thicker cushion that is worth the extra money. My Miami Beach condo has treadmills included but zero cushion. Candidly I know more injured runners than active runners. The cushiony treadmill and higher end running shoes like Hoka are valuable investments for a runner. (I have never been injured running but pay for quality equipment, coaches and shoes.) i love the enthusiasm and encouragement of Sammi, Michael, Derek and Rachel especially. Went to class today with Derek this was our first time in Miami. However I have done Barry's classes in over five US cities and in Europe and Australia as well. Unfortunately this was probably the worst class I've ever been to. The music was OK the studio is beautiful however the instructor was lackluster. He was not very clear in his instructions and he never once demonstrated the movements and just kept relying on the seasoned class members who often were difficult to visualize in the class. I don't see myself coming back to him as an instructor and I'd rather spend my money on the many other fitness studios available in Miami thank you but no thank you. read more

One of the harder HIIT classes I've taken. Half the class is cardio (treadmill) while the other is strength training with free weights and bands. The cardio side kicks my butt to the point where I dread doing it (but thats how you know its great for you ). They change the focus area daily so you have the option of attending a class that is more arms focused, or lower body, or chest and back- which I appreciate! read more

WORST Barry's I've ever been to...and I'm a loyal customer, been to 15 different locations to date. Instructors are not clear (needed more training, better enunciation, demonstration of workout and timing check) and don't take the lead of the class. They have no control. I have not seen them asking about first timers and injuries - in NYC and Toronto coaches will bring first timers in before class starts to give them a walk through. Crowd seems more interested in taking selfies than getting a good run for their money, jumping in and out treadmills during workout for a selfie, stumbling on people, moving others weights around, a complete mess, no red room etiquette observed. Management please bring this location up to Barry's Bootcamp standards. Until then I won't be back. read more

However as a first timer I thought I would get a little bit more instruction, a little bit more support , a little bit more personalized assistance. Not everyone walks in the door an expert... I hate lifting weight at the gym alone, I don't know what to do with it and I lose motivation very quickly, on top of that I hate to run period, so Barry's saved my fitness journey I love Barry's Bootcamp because it's a workout that when done effectively and weekly will give you very nice results. I also love the fact that exercising there is "individual" you don't have to pair up with anyone to do exercises, there is no wast of time, it's paced, motivating and challenging. (I love fitness classes, but many times in other studios, they will pair me up for some exercises and I find it awkward when you are paired with a sweaty unknown fellow ) Nelson and Kelly are my favorites in Sobe! Wow, the total body class here is no joke!!! I am so tired from this workout. Our instructor, Nelson, and the music were top notch. I really liked their treadmills too. They were very smooth and responsive, which was good because our trainer had us doing lots of sprints during the two running portions. While I liked the strength work, I wasn't a fan of the small spaces we had to use. A few more inches in between benches would've made things much more comfortable, especially because we were sharing benches with other people who had their own weights and towels. The floor was also super slippery from wet sneakers and sweat, so doing burpees didn't feel safe. Not to mention, a wet floor is kind of nasty. It's not entirely their fault - it was a rainy morning in humid Miami. Otherwise, I loved this workout and will definitely do it again!! read more

Zero personalization. 45 minutes of a guy shouting on top of crazy music playing so loud in an extremely low light environment. You won't hear or see anything. If you need that crazy pump to train, go. If you want a place with someone to tell you I'd what you are doing is right or wrong, avoid this place. I had to try it. It definitely feels like you're in WMC up in here. You'll come in here like a deer in headlights. Dark room with a lot of THUD THUD THUD THUD. I have to agree with some other reviewers.The counter people, I think is not the most friendliest. But, I'm here to break a sweat and that's deff what this place will do. I'm new to this so I kinda don't get when to turn up the incline and all that jazz. I mean, all I know is when it's about the last minute to trek to the absolute highest and run like your Forrest Gump. I'm more of a fan of the floor exercises. I regularly go to Barry's in Chicago where I live and I've also gone regularly in New York when I'm there for work. It really is the best workout and the motto is "work out hard and be nice to people." I had never been to a Barry's location that didn't live up to that motto until Barry's South Beach. I took two classes while I was here. The first day I went to get a smoothie after class and the guy behind the counter ignored me until I waived at him no less than five times. The second day I went and took a "master instructor" which should have been great except that he was giving everyone in class, with a lot of brand new people, so much attitude about not being able to find the bands, which btw are located in different places in every Barry's studio. I thought well, maybe he's having a bad day. So then when I went to grab a smoothie after class, I thought for sure the smoothie guy would be nicer. Instead, he asked me if I preordered and when I said "no", he said "you're going to need to wait for me to finish what I'm doing then" and turned away. It is so unfortunate. My friends and I are all attorneys in different cities and our thing when we get together is to try our each other's or new Barry's studios. I would say if you are traveling, always go to Barry's for a good workout, unless you're in Miami. Then, maybe find another boutique fitness studio. read more

Horrible and too pretentious for new business! I travel the world and train and this was the worst experience I've had in 8 years ! The guy was SOoooooo grumpy tooo Just tried to do a class for my first time and my card was declined (Not due to available funds) but possibly because I'm Canadian and the card was a Canadian visa. Instead of offering a free class being a new member, or the option to do the class first and come back and pay after I go to the bank machine, the guy basically showed me the door! You know what? There is a reason Barry's Bootcamp is ubiquitous in the world of boutique fitness... it is because Barry's is the BEST. I used to be a personal trainer for many years, so I am hyper critical of gyms, classes, boot camps, etc. Most boot camps leave much to be desired in terms of programming. They usually pound everyone in the class with the same fitness sledgehammer and I often cringe because I'm expecting newbies and less experienced folks to literally fall apart before my eyes. Either because they cannot cope or they hurt themselves. (Pro Tip: a workout is not supposed to make you feel like you are going to die, vomit or pass out. Those things are bad! BAD. All bad.) I have to say, Barry's was one of the only boot camps that was completely scalable to each persons fitness level, the instructor didn't bark in your face for you to GO HARDER and he actually did watch people's form... and not only that, it was fun and engaging. And we were all drenched in sweat at the end and worked hard, but no one needed to run away and puke, lie down or needed CPR. I'm only half joking about that last one. People are effing crazy with this fitness shit these days and don't know when to quit. I would actually go to these if they had a Barry's in Sydney - and I scoff and snort at practically EVERY boot camp, haha. read more

I have worked out at almost every gym in Sobe and will only work out at Barry's now. The classes are fantastic and actually are a challenge. I have taken many classes at other gyms where it just wasn't hard enough. i am an avid runner so granted, I need to be pushed more to even gain a sweat. Talk about no pain no gain! Barry's bootcamp will work you until you crawl out of class. Absolutely love this spot and highly recommend if you want a good workout. The class is set up to have half the students on the treadmill and the other half to start on the floor. Each class specifies in a certain area so check the name of the class before you book so you know what areas are going to be focused on. The room is dim and they have club lights that make you feel sexy while working out - like you are up in the club! The instructor will call out different instructions to both groups at the same time so you really have to surrender and practice your active listening else your going to feel lost. These classes are like having your own personal trainer and I feel the price is worth taking classes here. They also have a juice bar where you can get a smoothie pre made for you so it's ready when you get out of class- no waiting! And of course they sell my favorite paleo friendly bar- ginnybar! The staff is friendly and the owners make sure you are having fun while getting a good workout. Book your class in advance so you are mentally ready to sweat last nights drinks off..... read more

What a great workout!! Staff is super friendly and instructors are fabulous. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked with malin + goetz products which i love. Complimentary lockers and towel service are a really convenient addition. Be sure to stop by the fuel bar after your workout or anytime!! They even have Vegan proten options. Barry's Bootcamp is the next iteration of fitness brutality for those who want to get in shape. It is treadmill based to jack up your heart rate, and then there is different training for various parts of the body. Today's part was stomach Barrys is a workout area with about twenty treads, various weights and bands. You have a reception desk and to the right is a juice bar with all kinds of drinks So we start the workout....It is warm up, speed, sprint and recover in three sets. They demand speed and by the end of this set, you are sweating Then: ab work: 4 different sets of various exercises with weights, bands and other sit up like exercises Back to the tread next, only now it is about incline. 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0,10.0 then back down to 5.0. Ever do a tread at 10? Neither had I....It is incredibly hard Again with the abs: 4 new exercises to maximize discomfort Back to the tread with speed: You will be running the equivalent of a 6:30, 5:30 or 4:45 mile depending on your courage....not easy Again with abs....with 4 new exercises, just in case there was one fiber unaffected by the 8-10 sets you had previously completed It is a tough workout. One small issue: Orange Theory uses heart monitors to determine your workout levels. Fly uses numbers based on speed and tourque. I was on vacation from CT and visited Barry's 3 of the days I was there. I had always wanted to try a Barrys, but the closest one to me is in Boston. At home I do F45, so I was excited to see how it stacked up. All I can say is I need one of these near me. I honestly am usually not one to pay for workout classes that involve running because I run on my own every day, but I seriously have never left a class dripping as much as I had those days. The workouts are really intense, as well as the trainers. It's dark in there and gets really loud. The whole darkness thing usually isn't for me as it kind of throws me off & feels unsafe but it totally worked for this. I took one class with Nelson, and two with Derek. Both were great. The next day before taking a class with Derek, Nelson was leaving the previous class and said "hi" to me by name. The fact that he learned my name from one class was huge to me and meant a lot. Also, the studio itself is absolutely beautiful, and impeccably clean. The man tending the shake bar was super friendly as well- and their merch is great. I can't wait to go back (and hope for a CT location soon). read more

Great Barry's location! This one isn't as large as Aventura but it's much bigger than Midtown. Removed a star because there's no parking. It's either street parking, which I usually can find or park in the garage one block over. You have to pay for both. Aside from the parking situation, this is a great Barry's location and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to try out the classes. read more

Its my first time doing bootcamp and i had a really good experience. I have taken already several classes with different trainers and they all take care of you as if it was a personalized training. You can tell that Barry's Bootcamp did a great job searching for a professional staff! Also the atmosphere is really great. As soon as you get inside, you feel welcomed. I highly recommend this kind of training because it fits all kinds of needs, if you need to gain muscle and burn fat its a great training, if you want to loose weight, its also an amazing way to do it. First off, Barry's is LIFE! The workout, the community, the people... you will get stronger, fitter, faster and you will meet some kick ass, hard working, and like minded people along the way! My first barrys class was 5 years ago in NYC and was with Patrick Frost (who's now in the 305!). I knew there was something special about Barry's & Patrick when he was giving me shout outs in class using my first name- when I was just visiting NYC for the holiday and it was in a class of 50 people, and I was NOT one of the strongest people at all (but I was trying my hardest!). Now I live in Miami and get to take a Patrick Frost class at least one time a week. His programming for the runs and on the floor (the weights) is spot on. It's geared towards safe movement, always with a clear purpose and goal in mind (as many reps as possible, anyone?!). I workout frequently and full body workouts used to be my least favorite bc I never felt like I could successfully fatigue any muscles in a group class format targeting a full body workout. NOT the case in Patrick's class! It is effective and so well thought out to accommodate different fitness and experience levels in the class. He's a favorite of the Barry's regulars and for the new clients, makes them feel so welcomed, successful, and ready to come back for their next class. My favorite is Patrick- he is knowledgeable, friendly and super funny! Every time I go to Barry's I try to make sure I can make it to his class. I've been doing Barrys for years and when a trainer named Patrick Frost started working at Barrys my motivation and commitment changed drastically. I have found the best trainer I could ever have. You can tell from the first moment the knowledge and passion he has for fitness. I saw the changes in my body so fast, that is why I say I don't do Barrys anymore I do Patrick's. I would like to show appreciation for his work because he really does care to improve your fitness level and I take my workout very seriously. Look forward to coming here and having a killer work out every time! The whole facility from the moment you walk in is powerful. The front desk staff is very energetic and warm. They do a wonderful job of keeping the studio clean and polish. I typically come early around 7am or for the 9:30 class and even though its packed, I am always able to grab a locker to put my things in. Derek by far is my favorite instructor. He is always making sure I don't slack. I also find that his classes are the most fun and creative. Rachel and Kelly are incredible as well. The classes are always extremely challenging but there are modifications to exercises that I am unable to do, as for everyone. They instructors are very aware and don't want anyone to get hurt therefore they watch everyone's form and pay close attention. Overall, the best work out in the world. read more

Truly the best workout in the world. Yes the price is high but the workout is better than anything I've ever tried, including personal training. I've been going to Barry's Bootcamp since it started about 20 years ago...Unfortunately they take this hard-core, hard-ass approach as if you're mean and arrogant it gives you a better work out...Well not so ...with so many competitors out there the BBC work out fails by comparison...that's a whole other conversation. But when you're immediately greeted w/unhappy,unfriendly & attitudinal people and the instructors give you an Unaccommodating attitude as well, it really turns one off. ESPECIALLY Since it is THE most expensive work out on the market hands-down...Furthermore I have been in the fitness field my entire life so I am more than qualified to make this review as I have been to every class type around the country!! And furthermore I've been meaning to make this review months and months ago...But the Miami Beach location is one of the worst unaccommodating places I have been to by far!!!! From the front desk staff to the instructors...It is appalling to the nth degree!! I hope upper management takes note and makes some changes because they are losing business quickly and barely have a schedule any longer which is a real shame since it's so close to my apartment. I love taking Derek's class! He is the best at this location by far. I took him the first time I ever tried Barrys ever and i felt it was very easy to figure out what was going on and he was super clear. Some other instructors are not as clear as he is. He's also motivating and pushes you but doesn't cross personal lines or yell like some other instructors do. Highly recommend his class. Yesterdy i went to Barry's aventura and had a great experience. Today i decided to go to the miami beach location and did not had a good time. The treadmills here are a different model so i did not know how to use it. I asked the instructor Nelson to help me. He screamed to press "enter" and "plus" i could not find the enter and he would just scream from far. He did not come to see what my issue was. Then he proceeds to scream at me that i am not listening. I was, i just could not find the button. He was so rude, did not come close to me at all to help. I found a way to get the treadmill to start. At the second block i still had issues starting the treadmill and i decided to go to another one because i thought something was wrong. I could not turm on the other treadmill and i asked nelson to help me. He comes and starts to be rude at me saying that it isnt my treadmill and i have to go back to the old one. He continues to be rude and says im not listening. At this point i just wanted to exit the room. It was a very unpleasant situation and i could not feel comfortable working out with him around. He knew most of the girls name in the class so of course he knew i was new. Avoid Nelson's class if you don't want to be treated bad, ignored and yelled by him. read more

disclaimer: I spent many years as a trainer and group fitness instructor so am a bit picky. That said, any business no matter if it is the super trendy South Beach Barry's Boot camp comes down to customer service. My wife and I love working out so we rode 15 miles from our house to Barry's for a 7:10 am class. Now we all know how important first impressions are but no one got the memo at Barry's. We were let in by a man named David who greeted us with some serious attitude and the guy couldn't even crack a smile. Both my wife and I felt that he couldn't be bothered by us. It was our first time going and after he checked us in he said, "do you mind finding your way around I have some things to do." Well his other things were catching up and chatting with the other trainers. Our instructors name was Rachel and she was very nice, friendly and greeted us in a pretty cheery way. She was very motivating and the class itself was pretty good. One big thing was that it was billed as an arms and abs class which it was and Rachel did great but we didn't do any shoulder exercises. How can you have an arms class and not do shouldars? We did plenty of abs, bi's and tri's. Thanks Rachel for closing the class with cool stretches and a smile as we walked out of the door. I don't know if we'll go back as we've found other boot camps for less than half that are much better. Companies- that front desk person is so vital. read more

Very disappointing experience after a year of going to Barry's. Nice place, trainers are good and atmosphere is good. Front desk: after being turned away by woman at front desk with a paid for reservation, woman simply said your spots were given away and walks away not wanting to have any conversation. The manager Bret Schukis, did not offer another class to make up for this one (as there were 2 classes included in the promotion) just said well at least you have one class left. So instead he did give me and 4 other people at the desk in same situation a refund. Guys this is a great place to train with a really bad business practice and bad attitude at front desk. read more
