I was inspired to see Barry by my partner whom he helped heal from serious childhood and sexual trauma. As someone who has struggled with anxiety in various forms most of my life, I can tell you it is a challenge to find someone both extremely competent and also amazingly personable and kind to help. This is to review my initial impression of Dr. Slone and my trying to set up an appointment. I had initially submitted a request to verify if my insurance would be accepted at his office and then after several days later, I received a follow up phone call from Dr. Slone himself. I couldn't recall when I had submitted this so I was trying to ask him if I had sent an email or an online request and he seemed flustered with me. Then after confirming my insurance carrier wasn't acceptable, I asked him what the rate was for w/out insurance and he said $300/hr. Just to note, I've only gone to therapy back in high school and that was many years ago, and so just to hear that rate, was pretty jarring so I responded along the lines of "Oh okay, well thank you for following up with me..." And he hung up so fast after he realized what I said. It came across like I was a waste of time for even following up on, so it just appears that it's just about the profit and not so much the patient who was just seeing what her options were. Courtesy does go a long way. Sorry if you were having a bad day, Dr. But if this initial phone call was indicative of the rest of our time then I'm better off not going to your office. read more

Dr. Slone has been very helpful in helping me with past traumas and dealing with life as it is. I am an empath, I feel others emotions, its both a blessing and a curse. Dr. Slone is helping me think and think differently about life as a whole. I've been seeing Dr. Slone for around a month in my effort to unpack and correct my compulsive spending/shopping addiction, and he's been a tremendous help. He listens patiently and asks really thoughtful questions, which helps me reflect on my own behaviors, experiences, and thoughts, and the "homework" (activities like journalling my mood throughout the day, short and long-term goals I hope to achieve through therapy, and general mindfulness) we decide on really help me to stay focused until our next appointment. This is my first time seeing a therapist, and while it was pretty scary to go and I still get a bit nervous before each session, he's demeanor is really calming and non-judgmental and my anxiety leading up to each visit has gotten less and less. Tips for those who are going to see Dr. Slone for the first time: - His office is located in the basement/parking level of the Kaiser Permanente building; his office is really nice and relaxing, but there aren't any windows and it's definitely subterranean. - Parking's kind of a chore in the parking lot off to right side/back if you're turning in on Mareblu; I recommend driving in between the two medical buildings and there's another parking lot that's much closer to his office. - It's cash-only (at specialist office visit fee), at least for me; there's a Citibank nearby and an ATM at the 7-11 by the OHOP around the corner if you're forgetful like me. read more
