Had never heard of them before and Google didn't exactly make them sound pleasant. It turns out they're something I'd have known as shuttle runs and done once upon a time with football and taekwondo. Still, it had been a while since I'd done circuit training. So along I went and there were 13 in the class of varying ages and fitness levels. That didn't matter. If you're unfit and giving it 100%, you'll get as much out of it as someone younger and fitter giving it 100%. I was drenched in sweat and knackered at the end of it but I felt good. I'll be stiff today and maybe a bit more tomorrow but I'll definitely go there again!

Not only are his classes top-notch (and a steal for the price), he's also very personable and makes sure his clients know how to get the most out of their workouts, both in and out of the gym. His spinning classes rank with the best I've taken in New York and California: his non-nonsense, gimmick-free training is directed toward real cyclists, and that means the rest of us get the best workouts, as well. None of that "up for four, hover for four, pedal backwards as you pushup on the handlebars" crap here: just pure, honest, sweat-puddle spinning. Find him on Facebook--he'll give you your first class for free!

Ben Dunne Gyms - This is a common sight at the gym: people leave their weights all over the gym floor instead of putting them back on the racks.

When I joined back in June I was a bit disappointed that facilities such as shower and the steam rooms were taken away. But what I was most disappointed about was that the Yearly membership option was taken away. I understand, now that there are fewer members the price must go up, but there's no need for you to take away the yearly membership, just raise the price? The benefit of a yearly membership plan is not only the potential of a discount but also the ability to make a one-off payment. This ability is a necessity for me, being a student my income is irregular, so I can not reliably depend on money being in my account the same day every month. Despite this I joined back, I tried to sign up with my credit card to avoid any missed payments, but the Ben Dunne website insists on direct debits. And surprise surprise three months later, I miss a payment while I was changing jobs, what an idiot I am for forgetting the exact day I am meant to pay you with NO REMINDERS. So what would you expect would be standard business practice by the many subscription services that plague us today in this situation? A friendly email advising you, you missed a payment but no worries here's a link to complete payment, please pay in the next 7 weeks to continue your membership? A receptionist telling you you cant come in until you complete this months payment? I think that's all fair enough. Nope, Ben Dunne will CANCEL your MEMBERSHIP with NO WARNING and expect you to join back again as a whole new member with a WHOLE NEW JOINING FEE. Oh my apologies my Lord Ben Dunne for missing my humble payment, shall I set up a separate current account that I top up yearly? Perhaps I shall tickle your taint while I suck you off? That's ridiculous and honestly shameful, it's a pandemic people are struggling and hey even if there wasn't one people are still struggling. Screw me for not having my life together on the 16th of September right? I have sent emails to the payment department asking that I can rejoin without the joining fee (may I remind you I have been a regular member for 7 years) and they have advised me that they can not do anything, and I must email info@bendunne.com. And I have sent them multiple emails as well but no reply. I am not asking the world, I am asking for the bare minimum of flexibility. In my experience, it is always easier and cheaper to get a returning customer than a new customer. Food for thought.

Owned and managed by head trainer Shane McShea, who couldn't be more dedicated to his clients and their results. Regular motivational texts and nutritional advice for those who are serious about their goals are just what keeps you going. With his help, my flatmate lost almost 7stone and is able to maintain her weight since. CFC offers a wide range of fitness classes (Kettlebell, TRX, caveman...) as well as bootcamps and transformation programmes and of course personal training. They have several payment options, for example drop in classes are a tenner only or unlimited classes for 65Euro/ month. This gym has a real community feel to it. You get to chat to everyone in the class, see more or less the same faces every week and they also organise social events for their members every now and then.

I usually worked out at corporate large gyms, where they have mirrors, sauna, jacuzzi and a ton of nice amenities......BUT, 6 weeks with Shane and I saw results I have never ever ever seen with years of going to larger gyms. Why? Many reasons. One the classes are small, so there's no hiding. Ive been in large gyms, very hi-tech, but so many members that the instructor just can't see what you are doing. Here all the instructors, ALL the instructors pay attention to form, figure, posture and technique. I can't stress how important this is - and hard to find. Also, you can't hide as the classes are relatively small. Just to illustrate the effectiveness of a high intensity interval training. I used to do 600crunches a day or more and I didn't have tone or definition. 6 weeks with Shane, I never did a crunch (ever) and my abs, hot damn, my abs were toned, defined...I just couldn't believe it. All the instructors are fantastic. They push you to do things you didn't think you were capable of, but since they know you, they know what you can/can't do (Looking at you Shauna who had me lift 28pounds and I did it!I had no idea I could do that!!). The high you get from seeing results and from doing things you didn't know you could is really empowering and something I haven't found in other places. And it's fun too! some classes I can't stop laughing the whole time, it's so much fun, it feels like playing (Looking at you Marsen, hilarious!). In short, this is the place to go to get smoking hot really quick. Or at least super duper fit and healthy :)
