Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

I need to update this review with major news!…read more After a hard training, I usually go as far as the shower and don't even take the time to dry my hair before I go home. This time I felt like pushing my boundaries, wearing my bikini in public, and going to the spa. 1* For the spa: It's called spa but it's basically a huge swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jaccuzzi, and tropical showers - meaning different water temperature. The place is warm - not too warm ! - and clean. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to hygiene and this place has my stamp of approval. 1* For the sauna: Dry heat as you would expect. The interior is made of wood and the heat place is made of stones. There are 3 different levels and - of course - as the heat goes up the highest seats are warmer. It's not too hot so you can have a good sweat. Don't stay too long though and do not wear jewelry - you will get burnt. 1* For the showers: I love to alternate sauna / medium heat shower to cold / steam room. Some people like to take a cold shower right away but I don't appreciate the extreme change in temperature. I go for medium heat shower and possibly cold after that, it has to be step by step. 1* For the steam room: What a great sensation to be in a steam room! The heat and humidity is no overwhelming and that's a plus. You can't stay very long - as per usual - but you can still handle a good moment. Also there is an ambiance music played in the room to help fully relax. This place is a treat ! You eliminate the bad toxines in your body, you work on your breathing system, and you relax all at once. I haven't tried the swimming poor nor the jaccuzzi but that should happen very soon. 1* For the hair dryer: OMG Those hair dryers are so amazing it only take a few minutes to get my hair completely dry. And my hair is long to my waist. And not easily cooperative when it comes to drying! I need to take a picture of how everything is set up, but in short you can find 4/5 hair dryers and 1 hair straightener along a long mirror. You have space to put your brush or other hair/make-up products and get ready. Even when it's busy girls always make space for one another. Very friendly changing room ! 1* For the free trial: I asked for a few trial tickets for my boyfriend. They couldn't give any because this gets sent from the headquarter. At first I thought it was a bummer but then I remembered that a couple of months ago I received free trial tickets by post and a 5 day pass as well ! Should I remove a star ? It's true there should be more flexibility on that aspect but on the other hand they send a lot of incentives by post. I leave this star for now :D 1* For the beauty centre: Today I noticed a new poster in the entrance promoting a new beauty centre. Opening soon facilities for waxing, semi-permanent make-up, manicure, and pedicure. There was something else but I don't remember... Anyway, depending on the price I might want to take a look and report to my fellow yelpers :) That's all for now. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them ! #yelpmeplease #eliteyelper #yelp

The reason I…read moreconfused a gym for an afternoon hide-out was the man with the flyer outside who dragged me inside with the promise of a free espresso. And an espresso I got plus a grand tour of the premises. To find the gym you need to walk inside the South Richmond Street entrance, go through the room with the coffee machine until you find a door that takes you to a dark alley where you'll find another door, the one that opens the actual gym . Yeah I know, it's pretty strange. But just wait until you finally get inside! Raw is a macho place filled with macho men, stretching their sweaty bodies and flexing their muscles. I can imagine that fitness competitors have a membership here for life. Watching the heavy-built weight-lifters oozing testosterone in every corner, I couldn't help thinking about the Village People video as I felt myself shrink to the floor. For a girl, this wouldn't bee my gym of choice, at least not until I get much more fit. Maybe I should try their Boot Camp class, if the trainers are anything like those who pay for the work-out, I'll loose the Christmas kilos in no-time (I'll report back in a month, if I survive). So, if you wanna be a macho, macho man, make sure to get a membership. Hey! Hey! Hey! I

Upon first glance the weights section is admittedly intimidating, but for the most part people keep to themselves and you never have to wait for equipment or machines. Plus, it's seriously affordable. I think I paid €299 for 6 months. If you're like me and fear a serious body building setup, I'd say avoid the majority of the ground floor. Around the perimeter is like 15 cardio machines that get the job done, and they have a nice selection of kettle bells along the mirrors though. There is a studio upstairs that has a great selection of classes (though I'll admit I still haven't been to one) and there's also a spin studio if you're into that sort of thing. You're free to use either space if there's not a class on, and it's a personal fave since it has more lady-friendly barbells, mats and space to stretch. All in all, I really like Raw and would definitely recommend.

I really like this gym. Apart from the things I really hate about this gym…read more It's cheap, you don't need yearly contracts or anything like that. Pay as you go, stop paying when you don't want to go anymore. Simple. Also on the plus side, for someone that doesn't use any fancy machinery for his workout, this is awesome. There's a pretty big free weight area, and a very very good number of power racks! If you go to the gym to squat, bench, deadlift and that sort of stuff, Flye Fit has got you covered! Although I tend to keep away from them a bit, there's also a very good number of cardio machines, treadmills, bicycles, those things where you pretend you're walking up stairs, etc. You're a bit out of luck if you want a spa, smiths machine, a pool, back massages, or anything like that. There's equipment there, go and use it. That's pretty much it. What I really really hate about this place? It's a bloody mess most of the times. Spotting someone from the gym staff actually putting things back in their place is a rare sight indeed, and weights, dumbbells, kettle-bells, etc, are left all over the freaking place (it would help if people had better gym-etiquette, but they don't). My second gripe... some of the Personal Trainers don't really set much of an example, on the contrary, they tend to do one of the most annoying things you can do in a crowded gym... being a hoarder. "Oh these 25 sets of dumbbells, and these four 5kg plates? Yeah, we'll be using all of that, sorry!". Gah that makes me so mad! Soooo mad! I need to go lift some heavy things right now, to appease this rage! Gah! So yeah, a decent gym if you want to work out and you don't need anything fancy, or any hand-holding at all. Also helps if you're not intimidated by the sound of weights being dropped much louder than necessary (so ALPHA! GRAW!). Get a couple more staff in this place to keep it a bit less chaotic, and I'd definitely bump up the rating to 4 stars. Don't skip leg day!

I paid the student rate of 400 euro for a 12 month membership and you must pay 2 months up front, which is cheaper than mu previous gym. They have a variety of free classes like cross fit, spinning, abs classes, aerobics etc. as well as paid ones which are discounted for members like swimming lessons and yoga. There are a few types of memberships depending on your usage, like off peak, family plan, and 3 monthly etc. at varying prices. There is a Club Vitae app as well that you can use to book any of the classes. They have a nice 22 meter pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. The pool usually only has a few people whenever I'm there, but it's very crowded on weekends when there's kids swimming lessons in the mornings. The weights and cardio room have plenty of treadmills, but only a few of the other machines like bikes and cross trainers. The machines seem kind of old, but they still function fine. The area is smaller than massive gyms like Fly Fit, but they have a big enough weights area but only one of each type of weights machine. The changing rooms are kept very clean. I don't really like the showers as you can't control the temperature and it's quite lukewarm. Also it stops every minute or so and you have to wait a few seconds before you can turn it on again which I found weird. The staff are all very friendly, and the 10% discount on food from the V-Deli as well as the Vitae Spa for members is a nice bonus. They also sell protein powders, bars, coffee, fruit, swim suits, locks and swim caps. Free personal training and designing of a new workout program is also available to members. Overall, flexible membership options at reasonable prices, well kept and well equipped. Cleanliness: 5/5 Crowdedness: 3/5 Variety of Equipment: 3/5 Staff: 5/5 Value and price: 5/5

So yeah, the hotel allows any gender child to access any gender changing room and they say there's nothing they can do. So sorry if you are uncomfortable. When I joined back in June I was a bit disappointed that facilities such as shower and the steam rooms were taken away. But what I was most disappointed about was that the Yearly membership option was taken away. I understand, now that there are fewer members the price must go up, but there's no need for you to take away the yearly membership, just raise the price? The benefit of a yearly membership plan is not only the potential of a discount but also the ability to make a one-off payment. This ability is a necessity for me, being a student my income is irregular, so I can not reliably depend on money being in my account the same day every month. Despite this I joined back, I tried to sign up with my credit card to avoid any missed payments, but the Ben Dunne website insists on direct debits. And surprise surprise three months later, I miss a payment while I was changing jobs, what an idiot I am for forgetting the exact day I am meant to pay you with NO REMINDERS. So what would you expect would be standard business practice by the many subscription services that plague us today in this situation? A friendly email advising you, you missed a payment but no worries here's a link to complete payment, please pay in the next 7 weeks to continue your membership? A receptionist telling you you cant come in until you complete this months payment? I think that's all fair enough. Nope, Ben Dunne will CANCEL your MEMBERSHIP with NO WARNING and expect you to join back again as a whole new member with a WHOLE NEW JOINING FEE. Oh my apologies my Lord Ben Dunne for missing my humble payment, shall I set up a separate current account that I top up yearly? Perhaps I shall tickle your taint while I suck you off? That's ridiculous and honestly shameful, it's a pandemic people are struggling and hey even if there wasn't one people are still struggling. Screw me for not having my life together on the 16th of September right? I have sent emails to the payment department asking that I can rejoin without the joining fee (may I remind you I have been a regular member for 7 years) and they have advised me that they can not do anything, and I must email info@bendunne.com. And I have sent them multiple emails as well but no reply. I am not asking the world, I am asking for the bare minimum of flexibility. In my experience, it is always easier and cheaper to get a returning customer than a new customer. Food for thought.

However, the kids were here for the Aquazone. I was pleasantly surprised by the Aquazone, it wouldn't compare to water parks on the continent, but my Irish standards it does pretty well. The changing rooms and pool areas are all very clean. The changing area is communal with lots of cubicals, so makes it easier when you have kids with you. The main attractions for younger kids are a wave pool, lazy river and a pirate ship with a few small slides. Then for the slightly bigger and braver kids there are three flumes and a "flow rider" (a large stream of water you can surf or bodyboard on, great fun). The three flumes are very good, each one it quite different, so nice bit of variety. My niece loved the flumes, running up to me after going on the Dark Hole flume "that was TERRIFYING........... I'm going again!", I thought the entrance fee was about right; Adult €14, child €12 (3 & under free) and family €46 (2 adult & 2 child). You can stay as long as you want, but the ticket is single entry. It is much cheaper at off-peak times, however, a lot of the attraction will not be operating.

UCD is still in production). It was initially opened in 2003 but closed after only 18 months to have the roof fixed, which was completed in 2005. The main pool comes with a moveable floor so they can shorten the pool to a 25-meter pool with a two separate pools, one for diving. The complex also includes a kids' pool (Aquazone Waterpark) with slides and an on-site gym and cafe. There is room for about 2,500 spectators as well in an impressive viewing gallery. If I was to describe the quality of the pool when extended to the full 50-meters and when it's not too busy? Abso-feckin-unbelievable (that's a word... right?!). If you've never swum in a 50-meter pool you should do it immediately! I unfortunately live a fair bit away so only get to the pool once every few months and for a pool-based triathlon each year (Fingal Sprint, held in May), but it's well worth the trip and I've never been disappointed! I would STRONGLY recommend however to phone the centre before you go, because a LOT of clubs and competitions use this pool and also it's not always extended to the full 50-meters; try and go at off-peak times with the full distance available, and you're bound to come out smiling!
