Nobody wants to have a root canal. However...this experience was the BEST dental experience I've ever had in my life! To begin with the office is clean, modern and beautiful! The staff is "FAHHBULOUS!!!" He has state of the art technology. I was referred by my amazing dentist, Parthenon Dental. Dr Hoch was so thoughtful, thorough and explained the entire procedure while he numbed my mouth. Painless injections....for ME this was huge! No pain and like 4-5 injections! The entire procedure lasted about an hour. I felt nothing and I'm the BIGGEST WAH Baby on Earth! I felt nothing at all. I cannot believe how painless, how swift, how thorough, how wonderful the entire procedure really was...100 stars on YELP! As I said, in the beginning of my review, nobody wants to have a root canal, but if you need one, this is the place to come! Overall experience - very, very good! It got on the very top of my endodentistries. Why? because of the feeling of the great team of professionals working around my issue, caring about me ... and they succeeded. visit - 5 it was scheduled, it was fast, it was positive, one shot, no delays, no "other patients" and I've got my problem completely fixed assistant - 5+++ she's been amazing, highly professional. I had a pain tooth - another assitant in Lafayette demanded me to bite holder. She just told me how to hold it to make a good picture. We've got not a very good 3D scan from the first try, but instead of stubbornly pushing me to make it again - she asked how to make it better and got help right away. She's been fast, re-active, caring (not that an annoying caring but a soft care that makes you feel great) and professional. doctor - 5+++ Dr. Sue Hoch is an amazing professional. She estimated the fix and fixed it within this time, every single move was fast and precise. What I can say? Professional! I was referred to Dr. Hoch by my family dentist to try and isolate cause of dental pain radiating along my upper left jaw. Several teeth seemed to be inflamed and sensitive to cold. Dr. Hoch's staff called me to set up a late afternoon appointment the next day knowing I had dental pain. After Dr. Hoch analyzed a 3D panoramic Xray of my teeth he identified a tooth which had a (previous root canal performed elsewhere several years ago) with one of the roots left untreated. After completing the removal of the old root canal repair material he could see the untreated off shoot root and proceeded to complete the root canal repair for booth roots in about 2 hours. While I needed some antibiotics for the next 5 days to clear some residual site infection, everything has been restored to normal. What a blessing..! I cannot thank Dr. Hoch and his terrific staff enough for the terrific results. I was very impressed with his professionalism, how well the entire root canal procedure was explained, and that he made every effort to ensure my comfort during the process. Was referred to Dr. Hoch's practice by my dentist after learning I needed a root canal. Arrived a bit nervous of course, but felt immediately relaxed as soon as I met Dr. Hoch. When I asked if they had availability this months he laughed at me, and stated, "why wouldn't we?" Such a terrible and disrespectful way to start a conversation with a new client. I was looking forward to making an appointment given mostly good reviews but she deterred me from getting that far. Business owners need to be cautious of who you hire to be your receptionist as they are the forefront of your business. Customer service isn't her strong suit. read more

One of the best experiences I had in a dental office. This is coming from someone who has a fear of going to the dentist let alone a specialist. I did plenty of research on various Endodontist and based on the reviews, settled on Dr. Barry Hoch's office, and I'm glad Yelp came through on this one. Right when you walk in, Dr. Barry Hoch and team make you feel comfortable (which helped w/ my anxiety) and best of all they're very thorough in explaining everything. Dr. Barry Hoch took at least about 30 minutes to educate and explain the procedure and all the work that would be done. They also use some of the most up-to-date and state of the art equipment that I have never seen before. I had a root canal retreatment procedure done which took about 1.5 hours. When I arrived my pain level a 10, and when I left I was pain-free. As for my insurance Dr. Barry Hoch was considered "out of network" but I'm so glad I trusted my gut and the reviews I read on yelp. I paid a little more but it was all worth it in the end. If I could, I'd have Dr. Barry Hoch as my general dentist! If you're having hesitations, look no more. Had a second root canal done on my top molar. The first was by Dr Sue Hoch. Which she did an awesome job. I came to him only because I was on vacation and could not wait due to the pain I was in. Also I had Appointment with my regular dentist so it would have been to many days out to see Dr Sue Hoch. She called me and told me I was in good hands with Dr Barry Hoch. I came in to meet him and we went over my treatment plan after looking at my tooth. I decided to have a root canal after his advice on my molar seperate than the one Dr Sue Hoch did. He was very informative, kind, patient, and explained if you would feel any pain and for how long. My roots are very long on my molar. Dr Barry Hoch was patient and very skillful in controlling my pain level. If you are in much pain as I was level 20 out of 10, and you need a root canal go see Dr Barry Hoch. I've had a bad root canal done prior before meeting the Hoch's dentistry that even charged me more and the procedure was horrible. I think Dr Barry Hoch and Dr Sue Hoch are awesome at what they do. read more

I had a great experience at this office, from the front desk staff that got me in the same day, to Dr. Hoch and his assistant who took such good care of me and stayed late to boot.. I had a cracked back tooth and needed a root canal. The Dr. explained every step of the process to me. I hadn't had a root canal in over 15yrs, and not surprisingly was not excited about the prospect of going through the procedure: Happily surprised, the procedure was painless and quick. I expected some pain the next day, but nothing. Additionally as part of the initial appointment call, I was given what the expected out of pocket cost was going to be, no surprises there either. I don't wish a root canal or other serious tooth issue on anyone, but it you need it, go here! They are amazing! read more

My husband went in to have tooth pain evaluated by Dr. Hoch assuming he needed a root canal and he definitely did! Dr. Hoch had time to do it at the time of the evaluation and my husband was extremely impressed with his professionalism, how well the entire procedure was explained, that there was no discomfort whatsoever and we were impressed with the follow up after the procedure by his office . He had absolutely no issues after the procedure other than just mild soreness. I don't like to write negative reviews but I must share our experience and warn people about the type of dentist and office this actually is. My wife was referred to Dr. Hoch by our primary dentist for a root canal on one tooth. When we arrived the office seemed nice and professional. Dr. Hoch seemed nice although very young. During my wife's procedure Dr. Hoch recommended doing another root canal on an adjacent tooth to the original root canal. My wife did not have any problems with that tooth at all and our regular dentist had never expressed a concern about that tooth but not being a dentist ourselves, my wife and I trusted Dr. Hoch. We came to find out later that this tooth DID NOT need a root canal as it was perfectly healthy. Of course the bill was twice as much now because of the addition of the second (and unnecessary) root canal. We paid Dr. Hoch's office over $4000. In order to get my wife numb for these two root canals Dr. Hoch used something called an Osseous injection. This is an injection INTO the bone between the two teeth. Dr. Hoch never warned us of the complications of this type of injection. He never even mentioned it! Unfortunately for us (and especially my wife) we trusted Dr. Hoch. That was our biggest mistake. My wife was in a lot of pain throughout the procedure. The pain got worse when we got home. A few days later when my wife's pain was unbearable Dr. Hoch gave her antibiotics. The pain got a little better. A few months later my wife was still in a lot of pain. She returned to her regular dentist only to find out that she would need oral surgery!! The injection performed by Dr. Hoch had disintegrated the bone in her mouth and jaw. She would likely need either a bone graft or implants or both. The oral surgery would cost over $6000 and there was still a chance she would lose one or both of her teeth. We were shocked! We had no idea this could be a complication of what Dr. Hoch did to her. My wife has already had one oral surgery and she is scheduled for another surgery to try to fix this. To top it off we received another bill from Dr. Hoch's office for $125 many months later. We called our insurance to find out what was going on as we had paid our portion in full (over $4000!) and our insurance (Blue Cross at the time) told us it had just been billed incorrectly. We sent back the bill explaining that it had been billed incorrectly and to please fix it, resubmit the bill correctly to Blue Cross and they would pay it. We never heard anything back from Dr. Hoch's office. We assumed they had fixed their mistake and this was handled. A long time later we went to buy a car and come to find out that Dr. Hoch's office had not billed the insurance but instead sent us to collections for $125! After everything we've been through with this office and all of the money we've paid to them they are now too incompetent to fix their own mistake! We have never been treated so horribly by a health care provider. We tried to resolve the situation but unfortunately this office is just awful. They only care about money. They certainly don't care about their patients and apparently they don't care about their reputation either. All of our friends and family have seen what we've had to go through because of Dr. Hoch and his office. Be careful when choosing an endodontist! Dr. Hoch recommended another root canal on my wife just so he could charge us twice as much when it was completely unneccesary. He performed an osseous injection without warning us of the dangers of it just so he could charge more. This office doesn't care about what is best for the patient they just care about money. We are still dealing with the nightmare of trusting Dr. Barry Hoch. (side note: our dentist no longer refers patients to this office) read more

I cannot say enough how much respect and appreciation I have for Dr. Barry Hoch. I had a root canal done by another endodontist. It got infected again. My regular dentist prescribed some antibiotics and sent me back to the endodontist, who said it should be extracted and I should get a dental implant. I went to see Dr. Hoch for a second opinion. I wasn't in pain and the antibiotics had seem to clear up the infection. I didn't want to lose the tooth unless I absolutely had to. Dr. Hoch examined the tooth. He explained in great detail what he thought was happening. He thought we had a chance to save the tooth, and agreed we shouldn't remove the tooth unless it really needed to go. There was no need to take any immediate action. Dr. Hoch decided to take a scan as a baseline. He would wait 6 months and take another scan to compare. Well, I just had the follow up visit and the tooth is still in good shape. I'm so relieved and appreciate that there are still decent, caring doctors in this world, like Dr. Hoch, who are here to help people and not just make a quick buck. read more

Call me a traditionalist, but I've always thought Yelp was a place to provide food reviews. However I see (even myself) it really become this wonderful free search tool that spans other industries, professional services, etc. I know coworkers and random people have privately messaged me or in person, thanking me for writing good reviews on mechanic shops, window tinting places, etc. So today I want to write about how awesome of an experience I had with Dr. Barry Hoch. After over 20 years, my very first root canal with a crown popped off. I went to see my dentist and after examining the old style root canal filler, he referred me to Dr. Hoch. To make a long story short, and to admit an uncomfortable truth, I'm the biggest _____ when it comes to two things: 1) swimming in open ocean water (because I look like shark bait; I strongly believe I look like a seal in open water and sure swim like one) and 2) the dentist. Nothing freaks me out more than going to the dentist. The whine of the drill, sticking all kinds of needles in my mouth, that nasty pain of the numbing juice. Arrrggh. So my procedure today was to pull out the old root canal fillers, which I was told was a cheap kind used by old stye dentists (which was true; my mom's cheap Korean dentist down in LA). If they broke off while pulling out, then I'd be screwed. Knowing that, I was dreading today. Well Dr. Hoch is a miracle man, very patient with his explanation, and his voice and demeanor is perfect for a dentist. He's quite the funny guy too, which made the experience today all the more fun. First thing first though, he was an expert with the numbing needle. He applies a q-tip to the injection sites and then gently pokes and administers the numbing juice and then lets that area marinate in its numbing goodness. Then he applies some more. Repeated until the tooth was properly numbed. So while he's working on my tooth, we're all having a good time talking about hiking trails in the area, our phobias caused by watching the Omen, the Exorcist, Jaws, etc. as young kids, his family outings, etc. His assistants are top notch and funny themselves too. After paying my bill, the last thing I said to the staff was "You know, I hate to admit it, but I had a great time today." How many of you could say that about going to the dentist? If he was a general DDS, I'd go to him for everything. If your insurance company would allow you to get a root canal at the same rate as a general DDS, go to him. I would! read more

What an amazing office and Doctor! I had a root canal emergency on a Monday. Dr Hoch's staff (Vanessa) was wonderful about getting me in as soon as possible. Dr Barry Hoch explained the whole process in detail and was very patient about answering all the questions I had being that I was 6 months pregnant. He was so gentle when it came to giving the shots and even would count down (in minutes) how much longer the procedure would take once he started. He was constantly communicating with me and never in a hurry. Dr Hoch made me feel important. The Office Staff was beyond wonderful! They would call me to make sure I was doing well at least 2 times a day. I was also told that I could call day or night if I had any questions and that the Doctor was even on call during the weekends which put me at rest. I would highly recommend Dr. Barry Hoch. He took his time to explain what is going to happen during the procedure at my initial appointment, then went through the steps again right before the procedure. The procedure didn't go exactly as it was planned, but with Dr's patience, he put everything on track and it was a success at the end. Needed a root canal before getting a crown and they got me in next day for the test and did the procedure at the same time. It was fast and painless. My root canal was less painful than my semi-annual teeth cleaning. My insurance covered most of it and Dr. Hoch was gentle and had a great bedside manner to him. Dr Hoch took an X-ray with his stat of the art equipment and determined that, in his opinion, we should wait and see if I really needed the procedure. Dr. Hoch is such a pleasant man, and explains everything that is going to happen which is very reassuring. I was very nervous about getting my first root canal. Dr. Hoch was patient and informative and answered all of my questions prior to the root canal. During the root canal, Dr. Hoch and his staff talked to me and walked me through every step of the process and were very attentive to my needs. I am very sensitive to dental pain. Dr. Hoch did an excellent job of managing my pain. If he knew he was going to cause pain, he would tell me and let me know how much pain I would be in and for how long. He released much of the anxiety regarding the procedure. I experienced very little (and manageable) pain. It was a great experience and relieved chronic pain. read more

I was referred to the Hochs by my dentist for a root canal and I was a little concerned by the one star rating by a reviewer who claimed the Hochs billed for unnecessary surgeries. I found quite the opposite as Dr. Hoch did an extensive examination with latest 3D X-ray to come to the conclusion that the prescribed root canal was not the best treatment and was referred to another surgeon. I would recommend Dr. Hoch as one the most professional, informative and friendly Oral surgeon/dentists that I have visited. As with all dentistry offices these days, they all have an employee in charge of making sure payments are collected. Knowing that my insurance, Delta Dental, only allows two consultations including check ups per year, the collector demanded payment for the consultation before I left. That's right, if you have already had your two check ups for the year and you go in for throbing tooth ache in December, you are not covered. Nothing against the Hochs, they deserve to be paid, but the whole dental insurance system is sad and the way offices handle it is tacky. read more
