This is as close as you can get to the Barrio Fiesta back home, if not better. We're visiting here from LA and we're pleasantly surprised how this is much better than any of the locations in LA. We ordered Kinilaw na Kambing, Inihaw na Isaw, Bulalo and Flying Tilapia. We finished everything! If you are looking for authentic Filipino in Calgary, I highly recommend this place. This is a MUST. PS: Their service makes you feel like you're eating at your Tita's kitchen. Thank you, Barrio Fiesta Calgary!

The sisig was awesome as well as the pork BBQ. Last time I ate Lomi was in the Philippines, their lomi tastes so good. The kare-kare was the best, it felt like you were in the Philippines. The meat was tender and the peanut sauce was thick with real peanuts. The turon and sans rival, a must have dessert. And the owner is so friendly. Definitely going back before flying back to NY.

This is the most welcoming restaurant for out-of-town guests! Coming from Seattle, WA, USA, we had no idea what to do here but found a homestyle Barrio restaurant for us to have lunch at. With amazing Filipino hospitality, we felt right at home as if we were back in the Philippines. Maraming Salamat!

I had the lowest expectations for this restaurant BUT i was hugely mistaken. The food is amazing. I ordered sinigang na hipon ( shrimp sour soup) and lechon kawali ( deep fried pork). I can absolutely say their food is something to come back for, each time im in a business trip here in Calgary. The restaurant facade ( outside) is nothing extraordinary, but the interior has that local Philippine ambiance. Did i say their food was excellent? This coming from me who knows the kind of food they serve and from someone who loves to cook their kind of dishes. Also to top it all off, the staffs are very courteous and attends to my needs. This makes my whole foodie experience with this restaurant an amazing one. Oooppps gotta go. My halo halo ( mixed preserved fruits with shaved ice and milk) dessert is here !!!! Check out the pictures so you know what I'm talking about:-)

One, two and three item combos are all available which include your choice of meat dishes plus steamed rice. In addition to these mains, Pinoy also offers a variety of Filipino desserts (word of warning, though, the desserts have no English, so you'll have to ask if you are not familiar with this cuisine). On this visit, I tried the Adobo chicken which came in a soy sauce based savory broth and a pork dish in a sweeter sauce. Both meats were on the bone, which resulted in super tender cuts. For a two item combo, the price comes to $10 even with tax.

Everything had been stewed for a long time and the flavour had soaked into the meat. The pork menudo was especially flavourful with a tomato and green pepper based sauce. They seemed to have a lot of other interesting authentic filipino dishes to try. Don't be frightened of them using whole animal cooking. There are different parts of a chicken all cut up into one dish (no organs though), which I think is awesome because chicken breast can be pretty dry and boring. They also had a bitter melon dish so be careful about that! They've got guts to serve bitter melon. To me, it shows a commitment to their cuisine.

I guess they have karaoke every night and on Sundays there is a dance teacher that comes in to teach whomever so brave how to do the Salsa. You pay simply 5 dollars, have something to eat and learn the ways that your body can or cannot move. MFGAP has tons of crowd pleasing tricks up its sleeve; they have celebrity Filipino guests coming in to perform for their cliental this February 11th to commemorate Valentine's Day. Tickets are on sale for $30 and this is for a 5 course meal. The owners seem to be a husband and wife team and they are both friendly and inspired and if I am not mistaken their father is the cook. The place is a big space, complete with dance floor, disco lights and an obviously very loud sound system. Their menu is East meets West, they want to appeal to the non- Filipino crowd as well, but they do serve up traditional delights like Pansit, Adobo, and Fried Fish. You can even have your private birthday celebration here as well, depending on how many courses, you can have a package deal that includes a bottomless pop beverage and sing to your heart's content. We thought that we would introduce our friends to Filipino food, so we ordered a little of everything: Chicken Mami Soup: this regular size is meant to be shared by 2 people(or a single serving for one hungry person). The broth was flavourful with generous servings of chicken, suey choy, and boiled egg. Garlic Rice: so yummy! We love fried garlic and there was plenty of it! Laing: the taro leaves were cooked just right in the coconut milk without the shrimp paste being too overpowering. Mixed Bihon & Canton Special: tasty noodles with the right texture(my pet peeve is overcooked noodles). Beef Pares: the beef was meltingly tender with the aromatic sauce. Crispy Pork Kare-Kare: the peanut sauce with vegetables complemented the crispy pork perfectly. The only critique I would have about this dish is that the server should have given us a knife to cut the pork slabs properly (we used the pompano knife instead). It's a little difficult to do this with a fork and spoon... Fried Pompano: this was the last dish to arrive at our table. The fish was delicious, all the way down to the crispy bits near the tail and head without tasting fishy. Our server was friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, she was having her lunch break when we asked for the bill, so another server brought the machine to our table without asking if we wanted to pay separately. We will certainly be back to try the other dishes in their diverse menu!
