Having first tried their wine at Finca Altozano, our whole group was amazed by how good their wine was (Godoy) at such a good price point. We knew we had to seek it out on the way back to the states. And we're v glad we did. Although I suppose we should have called first! They seem to operate mostly by appointment and the building is a pretty nondescript warehouse-looking structure on a road full of similar buildings. We got lucky and found an employee tidying up and they graciously called someone who came by to give us a tour and tasting. Though our guide was not the owner (who we're told gives a fantastic tour as well), we had a fabulous time touring their very nice space, asking questions, and learning about the process. And once we got into the tasting itself, we were even more excited! :D They gave us incredibly generous pours (some might say too generous - be careful if you have to drive after!) of some of the best wines we've had throughout Mexico. And for the quality you get, the prices seemed so good that it was hard to imagine how they do it. They should really be proud. Even though we showed up unannounced, they treated us amazingly well and we left feeling like we were leaving good friends. We would love to come back again, and would encourage anyone going through the area who loves good wine to make room for this in their itinerary. P.S. If you need to sit and soak up some of those extra-generous pours afterward, Tacos De Birria right around the corner is legit af.

Since we were the only folks there that day, we had the tasting room all to ourselves. Omar spoke very good English and gave us a history of the winery and a description of the wines it makes. Then we toured the facility to get an in-depth talk of the wine-making process and the materials used. Omar is both knowledgeable and personable. He opened 5 bottles for us to taste, and all were very enjoyable, with varying flavors and complexity. Their bottle prices were very reasonable, so we bought 2 (limit for bringing back to US), and he even gave us one of the opened bottles as a complement to our ensuing lobster dinner in Puerto Nuevo. What wonderful hosts! I highly recommend this winery for an intimate tasting and wine experience in Guadalupe Valley.

I tend to like Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir, so it wasn't surprising. I was excited to try the Nebiollo after hearing the hype around Mexican Nebiollo and never having tried that type of varietal before. The grape is typically grown in Italy, but the Guadalupe Valley has a reputation for producing excellent Nebiollo wine. The verdict? I found it to be a bit reminiscent of Zinfandel, with a finish that was slightly peppery. It was still a great wine to enjoy, but because of that I preferred the Cab. I would definitely like to try some of their other wine varietals. Looking forward to being able to do that in person someday after the pandemic.

We always get a flight to share and bring it outside. They have a sitting area with a pretty view. My wife swears the air is crisper there... It's relaxing. Inside they also have a wonderful selection of infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars. They have tasting cups and crackers to find the one you like. The cherry balsamic is a staple at our household, and we always have a rotation of at least 2 or 3 olive oils from here at any given time. Fantastic!

I didn't realize they had a second floor, but we were lucky enough to go up and take some pictures from there. The view up there is definitely worth checking out.
