I was ecstatic to find a full-service gas station on a cold winter's day!…read more Full-service gas stations are harder to find than a functioning eight-track tape player. This is one of the few in the Nation's capital, located at the corner of Island Park & Wellington, in Westboro. If you don't know what a full-service gas station is, it is the crackpot misfit in the Corporate Gas Station world. This service peculiarity provides a personal touch, that was once a cornerstone of the industry, where staff attended to customers in a uniform complete with a cap and bow tie. Staff filled the tank, checked my windshieldwasher fluid & oil, squeegeed the windows & lights, and offered to test my tire pressure, all while I grooved to the beat of my iPhone playlist. In the maze of retail corporations the litter the Capital City, I appreciate the old school atmosphere and service. Their service earns my loyalty.

Did some Internet research, bought an OBD2 unit for $120 and found the problem myself... a loose gas cap. Now I'm questioning the new battery they installed as well as the brake job they did. Anyone working in a service station should know that any vehicle should be moving while turning the wheels. Otherwise, it's hard on the power steering pump, the entire steering system, as well as the transaxles. The attendant who drove my car out of the bay when I went to pick it up is either ignorant of this fact or trying to drum up more unnecessary repairs. Either way, he shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of any customer vehicle. Never again.

It's neighboured by a Dymon storage facility and a giant church, and it's on one of the most busy intersection corners in the South-West of Ottawa, off roads that could certainly use some attention (so bumpy getting in and out). Once you are in the lot, I must admit, this location was planned a lot more efficiently than many others. The lot is large making it easier to navigate (and avoid other drivers) and even thought there is a lot going on in that area, once you are in, it's quite smooth sailing. Again, be careful getting back out on to the roads - there are a lot of merge lanes in this area, which means there are quite a few drivers rushing to beat the line before the lane ends so they are driving a little faster than they potentially should be.

It's also right off the freeway, so it's not a hassle and I don't ever feel like I'm going out of my way to find the cheap gas. Other than that, it's pretty much your standard gas station!

Shell also takes Air Miles which was another reason for me to go there. I like this location because it's big, bright and clean. The staff are also nice. There's this Asian guy who works there, he's a bit soft-spoken but very friendly. We were talking about movies once while I was paying for my gas and he gave me a Scene magazine that he said he picked up recently at the movie theatre. I know that these magazines are free, but I thought it was a nice gesture. I would probably still be going to this gas station often if it wasn't for the fact that I got a discount card at Petro Canada that gives me an extra 3 cents off per litre. I look at the prices and go to the cheapest place taking the discount into account. This Shell and the Petro Canada on Innes at Lanthier are my favourite gas stations.
