This is original tex-mex. I usually have the fajita nachos, my husband has the chili-rellenos and the boys have the enchiladas. The service is super fast and the family owned atmosphere makes us return again and again. They have great chips and salsa with a iced mug of cold beer, you can't beat this on a Texas summer day of 109!!! Or even a cold day of 32 degrees( yes even Texas gets a LITTLE chilly!) Absolute WORST Mexican food I have ever had in my life. Ive had mexican food all over the country. No excuse for this poor of food in Texas... Speaking of Texas, this place is NOT... When the family and I want Mexican food, this is where we go. We used to come here every Friday for dinner, before we had to cut back on our spending. The food is excellent, and usually fast (barring any large groups during rush). The service is always very cheerful and friendly. We go there so often, that we have a preferred table and always served by the same waitress. I don't get to come to this place very often. It's in Cleburne and I almost live near Azle. About a 45 minute drive. I met a friend here as a halfway point. I hadn't ate here in a long time and was hoping the place was still there because I loved there food. But when you come in, you sit where you would like. The staff was friendly. There soda drinks are greatly prices. Much lower than anywhere else. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. Good crisp chips and great flavored salsa. Ordered a bowl of queso, and it came out in 2 large bowls. Which I liked because it made it to where one bowl wasn't being passed around the entire table. I got there enchilada combo. Which you get to choose 3 enchiladas of your choice from chicken, beef, and cheese. I got two beef and one chicken with queso all on top of it. And it was wonderful. I will say the chicken had great flavor and next time I will get two chicken and one beef because of how good the chicken was. For 3 meals, a kids meal, large queso, and kids plate. I paid 50 dollara. Which was cheap in my opinion for the quality of the food we got. I loved it. read more

A hometown staple. I love Barrera's and so does my entire family, they're always accommodating to our large orders and it just feels like home when we go inside. Lil is so sweet and treats you like one of her own, we almost always make a to go order for fajitas (2 large orders) and it's always done it 15 or less. Large portions of beans, meat/onions & peppers, cheese, sour cream, huge bag of chips and salsa. If it's just me I love their fajita chicken salad, it's HUGE and delicious. When we do sit down the beer is ice cold, margaritas are awesome and the serving staff is quick! Love this place!!! read more

Disgraceful. If there was a way to put zero stars I would have given them that. The place just looks filthy on the inside for one. I ordered beef and cheese nachos for an appetizer and disgusting. The cheese I think was fake and the meat was very dry and looked old. The entree was tamales, which were mushy like dog food and I think the queso was out of the jar because it tasted like tostitos. Canned beans and dry as hell rice, I boycott this place and I feel bad for anyone who have had the misfortune of this food having to slither down your throat. read more

This place is BOMB! So inexpensive and so good! I moved away from TX 10 years ago and I love good Tex-Mex when I come back to visit. We went to the old Jose's (La Fiesta now) and this place is way better. Got a cheese soft taco and a cheese enchilada off of the a-la-carte menu. SO good for less than $5. The outside isn't much to look at in fact it doesn't even look like a restaurant let alone a Mexican or Tex-Mex one. The inside is charming and we were greeted and seated immediately. Salsa and chips are awesome. We had burritos and enchiladas. Big portions and if you like garlic and cheese this is your place. Avoid this establishment if you intend to eat. I will eat just about anything but could not eat the chicken enchilada dinner I was served. The supposed sour cream sauce looked and tasted like flour and water mixed together. I scraped the sauce off and attempted to eat the enchilada. When I cut into it something that looked like greasy water ran out all over the plate. At that point I was done! I tried the beans since it was nearly 8:00 and I was starving but even those would not receive a mediocre rating. 0 Flavor and a strange texture left me wanting nothing more than to get out of there. When asked how we enjoyed our food which was obviously sitting in front of us uneaten I expressed my views and recieved an Oh I'm sorry your experience was not enjoyable. This place is horrible! Our server was rude didnt even say hi. All she said was "you ready"? How unbelievably rude. The food was disgusting! Our food was cold, super greasy, and tasted gross. There was no seasoning, no flavor and our chips didnt even have salt. Which were cold as well. I told the manager that we didnt eat our food because of all the grease who the hell wants to eat pure grease?? The manager didnt care, and the waitress rolled her eyes. What kind of place is this. There suppose to care about there customers. But not barreras! We still paid for our food because were good people but really shouldn't have. This is the worst place to eat! I have eaten at Barrera's twice. It is very "Tex-Mex" styled. I would say it is in between fast food and a true sit down restaurant. You pay at the desk by the door when you leave. I was disgusted with this place from my first visit. Food is mediocre, service is just a bunch of children, and I have seen bugs (roaches, flies, etc) in this restaurant on numerous occasions.
