Limelite is a lovely new pub which has opened up next to the Snooker Centre at Meadowbank…read more The place is really nicely done, and upmarket for the area, with large sofas to sit on and big high stools. This pub has wifi also and serves coffee/capucinnos and alcohol. It is a very nice place, the toilets are spotless, and the bar staff are very friendly. This has become a local pub also with the Golden Gates being shut. The alcohol is a bit more expensive for the area, and it is not the best place to watch the football as it is quite a small screen. But a lovely place, which every Friday in December will be having party nights for Xmas which is free and has a disco, which is always good fun.

We popped into here for a drink on a night out and were surprised to see that they close the doors at midnight even though the pub is open until one. It's a pretty good idea and would stop people staggering in towards the end of the night looking for their one more drink before heading home. It's a nice wee bar with a good range of drinks. We shared a bottle of white Rioja which we ordered basically because neither of us had ever heard of it before. It wasn't too expensive either, about twelve quid if memory serves me right. There were signs for some good deals on drinks too for during the week such as 3 for 2 on cocktails and if you buy two large glasses of wine you get the rest of the bottle free, so if two glasses of wine is about eight quid then your saving a few pound rather than buying the bottle itself - not too shabby at all.

My review update…read more In the quieter months this place was ok. Come the summer months and this place is run wild with dogs and their mess and that's just the inside! The bar due to its position attracts unsavoury characters out of the woodwork where fights are common here fuelled by drink and bar glasses being thrown. From being a welcoming bar in the quieter months has turned to the opposite, I've witnessed the peroxide blonde woman in her late 50's give verbal abuse to customers for not paying to use the toilet facilities and l think she was the manager! . The toilets here need industrial strength bleach as l do not think they have been cleaned in some time and for the bar there is dog's mess on the floor that staff don't even bother cleaning up, the general odour of the bar is of mild rotting sea weed, l thought it was the smell of the sea but soon realized it was the smell of dog excrement. All you can hear over the music it the swearing by bar staff and the dogs barking. The food here is no more than a microwaved scotch pie and beans. If you are ever in the are this is the place to avoid.

If I lived in Edinburgh, I would probably pay a frequent visit to Reekie's. They offer a good variety of meats from pulled pork to steaks and different sauces. I went for half rack of ribs grilled with Irn Bru Bbq sauce and their special hand cut rooster potatoes with meat dust. The place has a self service, therefore be ready to order at the counter and choose your seat. The staff is friendly and will advise you the best beer to your taste - I was pleased with the recommendation of Post Modern Classic Punk IPA from Brewdog. It's interesting to note the smokehouse is student and kid friendly, offering a student discount on Tuesdays and boasts a cool corner for the kids where they can color a pig or a bull to their taste and stick it on the wall.

I had the beef brisket sandwich and fries with their own special seasoning. They have a tasty array of homemade sauces and relishes to choose from to accompany your slow cooked meaty goodness. Was also impressed by the selection of locally produced drinks, they even stocked Roots sodas which I love! Only minor downside is that this place doesn't have the most reliable openings (perhaps once their slow cooked goodness is finished they close up?) so it took a couple of attempts to visit. Would love to come back and next time I'll save room for cake! Note: I had my camera, ready to snap the deliciousness... before I knew it I had delved in and started - oops!
