I've found most studios in the area a little too overwhelming, too full of skinny devotees who are fanatically enthusiastic and at the same time in dire need of a cookie. I lovingly think of these people as "Yoga-nuts." I found Hummingbird almost accidentally when a friend posted about their massage services. Hm, hadn't heard of this place. Oooh! They have Sunday morning meditation! Drop in! So I donned my baggy sweats, put on my most comfortable tie-dye shirt and headed down there to check it out, slightly nervous about the whole yoga-nut crowd. Hummingbird is lovely, a comfortable, serene space and Linda is as down to earth as it gets. She is not perfect, and she is one with her not perfectness, and she is happy to have you on the journey with her. Meditation with her is peaceful and enriching. I find myself looking forward to getting up on Sunday mornings for my hour of tranquility. Intimidated by the Yoga-Nut culture? Looking for a place not full of Lululemon and VitaminWater? Head to Hummingbird. Get a massage. Meditate. Practice yoga in a truly relaxed, real environment. A wonderful addition to Ardmore.

Linda, Noelle and the team are exceptional at what they do (I tend to refer to them as magicians b/c of how seamlessly they're able to alter my mind & spirit!). So many local businesses struggled to keep up with the pressure of Covid-19, but this studio has remained an essential part of my world, pivoting and adapting to the new norm with dignity and grace. This business goes far above and beyond to support and treat the local community, utilizing their studio and voices to offer far more than the business suggests. I couldn't be more grateful.

I've been suffering from carpal tunnel for the past three years. My physical therapist said that I needed more upper body strength workouts and barre classes at Tuck is a WHOLE-body workout! Seriously, I feel like I get my money worth. It took five classes to see changes in my body. I don't suffer from back pains or carpal tunnel as much anymore. Don't get me wrong. It's hard work to get in shape but I enjoy going here because I love how passionate everyone is at teaching their classes. They genuinely want you to get the most out of your workout and they do a fantastic job in creating a variety so you're not bored doing the same routine over and over again. If you're nervous or on the fence at giving this place a try. DON'T! This place welcomes everyone of all levels. (trust me I came worst than a beginner and Sandy had to correct me all the time! Luckily, it's not as much as it used to be, lol) Honestly this cute studio is the gem of Haverford~ I'm a lot happier both physically and emotionally because of Tuck~ btw if you're looking for a challenge, def give barre bounce a try~ it's super fun and I might see you there

It can be very intimidating to pursue hobbies and try to build new skills as an adult, but I finally set out to try yoga after 2 years of contemplation. Jolly Llama, and the wonderful instructor Jackie, made it so easy. I instantly felt comfortable and continue to feel so whenever I come in, and I highly recommend their beginner's class if that's what you're looking for. My instructor Jackie has consistently been mindful and encouraging. It's nothing like I expected. Throughout the lesson she reminds us to thank ourselves for showing up, and check in with our spirits and our bodies. She makes you feel reassured that it's okay not to go through with a pose that your body isn't agreeing with, and always offers you alternative cozy poses when something that may be a bit challenging comes along. This has been key for me in learning something new. It's made it very easy to go with the flow and grow. An added bonus is that everyone here is so approachable, both staff and fellow classmates. I've noticed in many reviews about yoga studios in general that newcomers can feel an air of pretentiousness, or feel like they're walking into something cliquey; things of that sort that can make a person feel unwelcome. But there was NONE of that here! Nothing but smiles, kindness and uplifting energy. It really makes all the difference.

Belly Pilates review:…read more Ugh, I really wish I had done my research before scheduling a session with Kelly McBride. The first red flag should have been that she had very few reviews from clients posted or available online (and one in particular that I read afterwards sounded very similar to my own less-than-positive experience with her). The second red flag was that when I reached out to Kelly to schedule with her, the rate she gave me ($125 for one session) was notably higher than the rate advertised on her website, and she indicated that the meeting would need to be an in-home session at my residence since she was in the process of moving (and thus did not have access to her usual studio or equipment). She showed up to our session without any equipment whatsoever. During the session, she gave me several exercises to practice at home (most of which I had already learned in prenatal yoga - e.g., cat/cows & squats) and a few that involved use of a 65cm exercise ball geared towards strengthening the pelvic floor. Since Kelly showed up without any equipment, the only reason I feel like she was even able to give me the exercise ball moves was because there was an exercise ball available for us to use in the fitness center of my apartment building... otherwise, would she have just taught me cat/cows & squats, which I already knew?? I just felt very misled by Kelly & the services she advertised on her website, so I left the session feeling pretty disappointed (and $125 lighter in my pocket). When I initially scheduled the session with her, I told Kelly in no uncertain terms that what I was looking for was the comprehensive assessment/evaluation advertised on her website & an "exercise prescription" that I could continue on my own at home up through & following delivery. There was no "history intake", "Belly Screen", "DR assessment", "mat workout" or any sort of tangible "exercise prescription" provided during our session (despite those being advertised on her website as being part of the initial evaluation session). Copied below is, verbatim, the only "exercise prescription" that was provided during our session (which Kelly sent to me via text message): Space Gravity Movement Belly big 3 Breath PF Abs ...That's it! No illustrated diagrams, printouts or other exercise descriptions for me to go on following our session. I wasn't sure what would be provided as far as a take-home guide, so I actually brought my own pen & paper to the session to take notes (which I'm glad I did, since the "space, gravity, movement" text message I received afterwards wasn't at all helpful). Giving clients an "exercise prescription" that consists of telling them to work on their abs, pelvic floor, & breath through space, gravity & movement is about as helpful as a hole in the head. From the outset of the session, Kelly expressed that she could only help me so much in a single session...but that she offered a 6-session program that would help get me ready for labor. Sure lady, let me pay you $800-900 for six more sessions of "space, gravity & movement". I got the sense that Kelly was pushing an agenda for financial gain (i.e., her side business of private Pilates sessions) rather than truly & genuinely helping me as a paying client. Needless to say, I will not be scheduling additional sessions. As pregnant women, we spend SO much money as it is on maternity clothes, prenatal yoga/exercise, chiropractic & massage services (none of which is covered by insurance!) and the last thing we need is to be taken for a ride by a salesman peddling $125/hour sessions that don't really help.

After 90 days of visiting this studio regularly, I decided that this wasn't the place for me. It was a tough choice. I slept on it for many weeks. See below for cons and pros. Cons...let's get the poopy stuff out of the way first --Steep pricing; I chose the monthly unlimited for $145. Classes are not cheap here, but neither is the quality of instructors. It's the age old conundrum of you get what you pay for. --Very cliquey: The other clientele do not tend to be overtly friendly to newcomers. This studio also attracts some very experienced, intense yogis. Sometimes these folks are a lil too intense a.k.a. they take themselves a little too seriously. This might just be a me thing though; I need a studio where the emphasis is more on human connection and joy than on entering a contest of wills to see who can breathe the loudest and be the most detached. --Limited access to instructors: the instructors typically enter the studio right before class and beat feet immediately after Savasana wraps, which makes it hard to build a rapport with these amazing instructors and, above all, who doesn't want to build a rapport with one's yoga instructor? --Awkward encounter: Speaking of Savasana, I inadvertently walked in on a class that was running a little bit late. Totally accidental but so not a huge deal as I was being pin-drop quiet. The instructor at the other end of the room emphatically waved her arms at me -- I suppose the equivalent of yelling with hands -- and gestured very demonstratively towards the door. I slinked out of the room. The lady apologized later, but she totally over-reacted. Her arm waving made more noise than did my footsteps. And besides, I exit and enter the studio at least once during each class to pee. Sometimes even during Savasana. I never get waved away. Probably because I'm being visibly respectful and audibly noiseless. Not sure why this particular instructor was so offended. --I wish the studio floors were a little cleaner, but by no means were they disgusting. Pros...and there are many! --Instruction: These instructors give amazing instruction. I went to a variety of classes, and I was always blown away by how methodical, detail oriented, and knowledgeable these instructors are. A few of these instructors embrace a more spiritual mindset rather than physical exertion. I really enjoyed the spiritual overtures. It made for a more connected, joyful practice. I loved whenever the instructors would give a brief summary of a passage from the owner's book. Put good vibes in the air. --The owner: The owner is exceedingly friendly and exceedingly accessible. I wish the many knowledgeable instructors at YogaLife would take a page from his book since they read from it so frequently -- especially the oddly aloof cadre of students who are working towards certification. --The receptionist: One of the receptionists -- a younger woman -- was always super welcoming, warm, and extremely pleasant. I loved interacting with her! She has a very inclusive mindset, which I found very inviting. I found many of the other receptionists to be polite and courteous as well. --Variety of classes: This facility boasts two massive studios in which many different offerings are available throughout any given day. Variety of levels offered here is also a huge plus. --Location Location Location: Conveniently located off of major thoroughfares. --Peaceful environment: Although located off of major thoroughfares, both studios are calm, peaceful, and conducive to relaxation. --This studio offers really neat seminars. I never attended any due to scheduling conflicts, but I was intrigued nonetheless! --Amenities: There are massage therapists, acupuncturists, and therapists/social workers who meet with clientele on-site, which is dope AF! I never had a chance to use any of these services, so I can't speak to the quality. I've also never seen most of these services collocated with a yoga studio, but this combo makes perfect sense!
