A must see in Adelaide Hills. Owned by same group that runs Crafers Hotel, the refreshed Uraidla…read moreis now a must see destination visit. So many different seating areas, wonderful all around. This hotel supports local wineries and local foods/produce. Terrific.

My memories of this place go back to 1998. A few mates of mine were Uraidla, Summertown and…read moreCherryville locals, so we used to frequent this pub for a bevy and a laugh. The owner Roger used to pour other people's left over beer into your glass when you weren't looking and there was often a car doing a burn-out out the front, a punch up or a band playing to keep you entertained. I even spent my 21st birthday in the front bar of the Uraidla with mates and ended up wresting each other on the oval with takeaway beers. Good times. Fast forward a lifetime and The Urey is back and kicking with a cash injection from everyone's favourite pub philanthropists: the Peter's. I haven't actually met Ed and Julie yet, but after they did up our old local - The Crafers; and now our new local - The Uraidla, I want to give them a big hug. The old mini orb bar is still in place with a new copper top, but most of the rest of the pub has been given a 2016 refurbishment. It is very mix and match with vinyl stools with chrome bases at the bar, galv plumbing pipe based laminate tables and then some nice solid timber tables and odd chairs and chesterfields. The centrepiece of the place must be the upside down table with floor lamps suspended from the main dining room ceiling as a makeshift thrift shop chandelier. Very creative. The wines include some local favourites from small wineries and the beer selection has some local crafties such as bierhaus, mismatch, prancing pony and prirate life alongside classics like coopers, west end and southwark. I'm going to see if I can get them to put some brew boys, big shed or little bang on tap. I'll keep you posted. As far as the food goes, I have tried a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and found it to be quite good, though very slightly overdone and a bit on the small side. My second meal was crumbed fish and chips and they were cooked very well and came with tartare sauce and lemon so I was chuffed. The main draw for this place though is the great historic hills pub history atmosphere. It oozes from every beam and stone in this building that dates back to the 1860's. The three fireplaces, the art deco entry and the quirky decorative elements such as the pressed tin ceiling to the ¾ keg urinals all make this place fun and cozy. Well done to everyone involved from the Peters to Advance Building Concepts, The locals who helped out and the new staff. I'm looking forward to the brewery and bakery that I've heard so much about and there have been other ideas floated such as communal table nights, quiz nights, whisky bars and more. Bring it on. It's great to see another hills town given a shot in the arm. Cheers!
