Wow! I googled this place in anticipation of writing the first review, because I'd never heard of…read moreit last year and it is slightly off the beaten track, but lo and behold, it wasn't even registered as a business on Yelp! So here it is! I also wanted to review this place in anticipation of the upcoming Winter Reds Festival that takes place annually in the winter all around the Adelaide Hills. If you can get along to VPW, I highly recommend it. The cellar door is a family-run operation and everyone who works here is charming and friendly. The place itself is also charming and cosy, and you could be forgiven for wanting to stay overnight after you've enjoyed their wine range! (although being serious, I think you'll have to look down the road for accomodation) They seem to enjoy doing french-themed light meals (last year's Winter Reds they did a coq au vin (that's chicken in wine for all you non-Frenchies!) and they also did a French themed food spread at Crush 2015 this year but I was busy out at Longview so I missed it!) and the wines are interesting and tasty. As they say, their wines are 'premium, elegant, cool climates Adelaide Hills wines'. They are definitely, as they have also self-described, a 'chic boutique'! In that the wines are all small batch production, and the Cellar Door is only open on the 4th weekend of every month (and not open every month either!) but if they are open for the Winter Reds Festival, I highly recommend getting in for some good ol' fashioned home cooked winter treats and cracking vino!

You can book Sunday Lunches to taste their wine, all complimentary!…read more So someone says free lunch, you think there's a catch.. I was expecting sandwiches, cold meat and cheese platter to be served with the wine. Much to my surprise there was a selection of warm dishes and salads. A variety which catered for Vegetarians and Gluten Free diets! On this Sunday (They may switch the dishes around) we had a Beef Curry, A Seafood Marina mix, Pork Meat Balls, Lasange (Both Beef & Vegetarian varieties) Salad wise there was a chicken, tuna, beef, beetroot & fetta and of course a standard green salad for vegetarians. And if that spread wasn't enough, there's dukkah? (not sure on the spelling) with olive oil, fresh white and wholemeal bread.. and a Cheese platter to boot with crackers and dried fruit. Amazing! All fresh and made from quality ingredients. The wine was set up on a tressel ? (Not sure on the spelling again!) tables which you could help yourself to throughout the day. My personal favourite was their 2009 Rose. I bought 2 bottles home and my Mum bought a case! Let me tell you that when I'm over her house for a meal I'll be making sure she cracks one over dinner ;) And later on in the day tea and coffee is bought out accompanied by Tim Tams! Nom noms! There is absolute no pressure to buy any wine, you can go along to enjoy a nice Sunday afternoon with family, friends or both, but honestly I'd be surprised if you didn't find a wine out of their selection you wouldn't enjoy and want to take home. The Sunday Lunches are booked out until March 2013, but these lunches are worth the wait! ;)

You are able to sit back, relax, eat, chat with friends, whilst trying all of their wines. My favorite was the 2012 Rose. The owners were the hosts and they provided wonderful service!

The owner Roger used to pour other people's left over beer into your glass when you weren't looking and there was often a car doing a burn-out out the front, a punch up or a band playing to keep you entertained. I even spent my 21st birthday in the front bar of the Uraidla with mates and ended up wresting each other on the oval with takeaway beers. Good times. Fast forward a lifetime and The Urey is back and kicking with a cash injection from everyone's favourite pub philanthropists: the Peter's. I haven't actually met Ed and Julie yet, but after they did up our old local - The Crafers; and now our new local - The Uraidla, I want to give them a big hug. The old mini orb bar is still in place with a new copper top, but most of the rest of the pub has been given a 2016 refurbishment. It is very mix and match with vinyl stools with chrome bases at the bar, galv plumbing pipe based laminate tables and then some nice solid timber tables and odd chairs and chesterfields. The centrepiece of the place must be the upside down table with floor lamps suspended from the main dining room ceiling as a makeshift thrift shop chandelier. Very creative. The wines include some local favourites from small wineries and the beer selection has some local crafties such as bierhaus, mismatch, prancing pony and prirate life alongside classics like coopers, west end and southwark. I'm going to see if I can get them to put some brew boys, big shed or little bang on tap. I'll keep you posted. As far as the food goes, I have tried a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and found it to be quite good, though very slightly overdone and a bit on the small side. My second meal was crumbed fish and chips and they were cooked very well and came with tartare sauce and lemon so I was chuffed. The main draw for this place though is the great historic hills pub history atmosphere. It oozes from every beam and stone in this building that dates back to the 1860's. The three fireplaces, the art deco entry and the quirky decorative elements such as the pressed tin ceiling to the ¾ keg urinals all make this place fun and cozy. Well done to everyone involved from the Peters to Advance Building Concepts, The locals who helped out and the new staff. I'm looking forward to the brewery and bakery that I've heard so much about and there have been other ideas floated such as communal table nights, quiz nights, whisky bars and more. Bring it on. It's great to see another hills town given a shot in the arm. Cheers!

It is set just to the left and behind the Hahndorf Inn. Look for a barn looking building near the car parks. The set up is very cute, an old barn with modern touches. The walls are lined with gorgeous bottles and a fridge is keeping the whites cooled. The staff are attentive and very knowledgeable. If you want to learn more about viticulture or the wine region, you need only ask. The staff are very passionate about promoting what is special in the store. As for wine, a great collection awaits you. There are some main stream wines here, but also a fab collection of boutique drops. These wines will not be found at chain bottle stores. You need to go to independent bottle stores like this one. They are very particular about where they sell their wines. Also know that you will commonly find a tasting on the busy weekends, so that is always a bonus! Love this Wine Centre, it's small but impressive!

What a perfect way to cleanse the palate and cool off after strolling in Historic Hahndorf during an unseasonable 39 degree day! Next we tasted three equally stunning wines - two of which were standouts, the Hahndorf Hills Winery rose' (2015) and the Kersbrook Hill premium cab sav cuvee. Both, while very different were stunning! The rose was light and fruity (watermelon, cherry) without being overly sweet. A great pair for spicier cuisine (Indian, Asian) or with bold cheese (think blue cheese). The cab sav could easily serve as a welcome beverage upon a guests arrival or paired with seafood (shrimp, crab). Again - STUNNING!!
