The first thing that I noticed when I wandered into Barnt Green Antiques was, ummm, a distinct lack of antiques. That sounds a bit negative - what I mean is that they don't display a great number of items in their shop. But the ones they do display are beautiful - they've all obviously been well looked after and expertly 'done up', if necessary.
You can tell that the owners take great pride in restoring and improving the various items that get passed their way - which is always a good sign for an antiques shop. The owners were quite senior in age, which I always feel happier with when it comes to antiques. I'm not sure why - I'm probably thinking that they might have been around when the items were first made. Clearly, this would be impossible in some cases... They were pleasant, and passed the time with me. And then vanished. Which was a little odd, but I was happy to wander amongst Victorian pine dressers on my own.
As I've said, there isn't a huge selection here, and don't drop in expecting bargains. What you will get is a few choice pieces that have been lovingly restored and generally given the TLC that valuable antiques deserve. read more
