I was sent to this hospital for rehab after surgery at Barnet hospital where I had very good care.A…read morenurse and a HCA were outside my room waiting for me.They had a good look at my outstretched leg where I've had surgery. Once in the room the nurse told me not to expect help from her to move. Then the HCA too said the same. Switched the TV on and left. When the night shift took over a kind HCA showed me how to use that TV. The first nurse never came to my room again except to deliver my meal once. Meal delivery seems to be a popular job among the HCAS. Once a HCA told me to avoid ringing the call bell at meal delivery times. When the call bell rings they are very quick to come to turn it off, sometimes saying they'll come back later and most of them did except once when the nurse turned it off and went home . Had to wait for help till the night shift settled. All the nurses were kind and caring except one who was rude to me one night. On my last day there she was working in my room.I asked her why she was rude to me and she said she didn't remember and said 'nobody likes you'. When asked who'nobody' was she named a HCA who had never worked in my room. Then i realised this person had been putting the others off me. I've been wondering why those with whom I got on well were not so friendly.I was getting newly arrived foreign male HCAs who had to be instructed by me what to do and where to find what was needed. One even said it was his first day at work. They were good people but needed some support to get acquainted to the job.We get the menu a day ahead to choose the meal but I was getting offered what I didn't want.Being a diabetic I refused to accept sweet & sour meat for dinner. The deliverer HCA and another stood outside my door shouting I can't get what I want and threw the dinner in the bin. Nothing instead was offered. When asked for the veg offered with my dinner was told it was in the bin .When asked for soup I was given a toasted cheese sandwich, cuppa soup and peas. The HCAs seem to have too much free time which one appear to have used for a hate campaign against me.In the mornings there is a mighty panic with the Hcas wanting to get the jobs done. Often bed making, washing get priority and often the tea is cold by the time to have breakfast. They say they have others to attend to. Some days physios too come at that time. At night if I ask for a blood check some go away pretending not to hear. The doctors and office managers were friendly.I had a miserable time in this hostile atmosphere. A very disappointed patient.

Nan got a wheelchair yesterday. This may not seem like front page news or an Extra! Extra! moment…read morebut it was. Nan's needed that chair for ages. She has a scooter but you can't really take the scooter on the bus and you can't take the car to the city. Finchley Memorial Hospital has a Wheelchair clinic where you get outfitted for a wheelchair, measured and then if they have a suitable one, you can take it away. Nan got a brand new chair that folds up into the car free of charge. You can say what you want about NHS, but it saved us 300 pounds and got Nan a chair.
