The planning and design stages seemed to go well and their references checked out, we did all of our homework before hiring them. We received an estimate to do the work and decided to go ahead with the project.
We were quoted 8 weeks for the construction stage, and the project started on time and progressed well in the beginning. After demolition they started to fall behind schedule because, as we found out, the engineering and design wasn't complete. Then the extras started, the foundation was more complicated than expected and was almost triple the quote. We were assured that the rest of the project would be on budget, so we proceeded.
As time went on the schedule and budget got worse, we were well past the original 8 week timeline at this point and the extras continued. Only one employee was working on the project most of the time, what we found out later is that this company had no employees, and help was hired out when they could find it.
The project stretched on into month 5, 6, then 7, and the project was still not even half done! By the time we came to our senses and fired them, they had spent 125% of the original budget, and they were only half finished!
As I write this, our project is still not complete. Steelewood Construction was so far over budget that we've been finishing the remaining portions on our own as we are financially able. It's been a financially and emotionally draining experience.
We would give a zero star review if we could. We hope our experience can save someone a lot of time, money and grief in the future.
