Shop here frequently and drop a lot of change. Was struggling to find a particular type of book in a section..along comes miss 20 something, her studious glasses perched on her nose, beenie barely hanging onto the back of her head just perfectly, bohemian attire on point.."excuse me, can I get your help to find.." "I'm sorry, I'm just going on my lunch. You'll have to find someone else to help you. Go look up front." Epic customer service. She deserves a raise. 20 something #2 quickly followed behind her..looks at me, looks down at her phone, and continues on to the break room. Literally called another book store to get some suggested titles of books based on my topic I was searching for. I received more help from the competitor over the phone than I did from B&N inside their own store. 20 something #1 returns from lunch and we now are searching for the book we learned about from a competing store. She looks in the computer "it says we should have it..I don't know why it's not here!" My daughter finds it on the bottom shelf. I guess you need to bend at the waist, sweetie. I'm giving this place 4 stars based solely on its magazines. I sadly don't read much in the way of print book anymore as I prefer to use my ereader. I own a kindle so I have little love for the nook an find the kindle to be a better alternative. The main reason I go to Barnes and nobles is their magazine selection. They seriously have a magazine or four dedicated to every conceivable topic. If you are someone looking for a hobbyist magazine, odds are they have it. read more

Is this a toy store or a book store? There's a children's section for a reason. Put the toys in there and bring back the atmosphere where adults can shop and browse in peace. I go in after work (7PM minimum) and it's still always filled with little kids running, screaming, and bothering customers. Do you want to be a bookstore or do you want to be Toys R Us? Pick one! This one doesn't have comfortable chairs where you can relax while you test drive books. Maybe there aren't any of those B&Ns left, I haven't been to any other stores in some time. But come on. The first chapter test is mandatory. I guess they just want to hurry you out as quickly as possible like Walmart (Walmart might just have quicker cashiers, which is saying something). This would be fine if they weren't still charging laughably high prices for what Amazon will sell 20% cheaper. read more

I purchased a hardback magazine on 1/18/19. I found I already had it so I took it back on 1/25/19 - 7 days later. Jessica H gave me the most difficult time about returning this hardback magazine. She told me that B&N does not accept returns such as these hardback magazines. The Manager had to get involved in a $16.31 return... wow... I have returned this type of magazine in the past without any problems. I understand policies, however, Jessica H was extremely rude and arrogant and the tone in her voice was unbelievably rude; she treated me like a felon. She was attempting to shame me, but shame on you Jessica H for treating me with such contempt for wanting to return a product. Brush - up on your customer skills Jessica. read more

I've been a loyal customer of the Temecula B&N since 2003. But lately the customer service has gone down hill. In previous years the employees were always helpful. Not now! I needed assistant getting a replacement B&N card. Manager, Melody, was called. She was amazingly rude. She was brusk and talked over me. Very unpleasant experience with this woman. My wife loves to go in to this store and browse thru a stack of books before she buys. I will usually sit next to her on the floor since seating is limited and flip thru a magazine. Never seemd to be an issue until one night when an older lady who I believe was the manager came buy and made a very rude comment about this not being a library, she was very annoyed at us. We felt unwelcomed and awkward. My wife never leaves this store without at least one book on every visit. This occasion left a very bad taste in my mouth so I ended up getting my wife a Kindle. Wont have to worry about us blocking your aisle lady. Plus my wife wont drag me in here once a week anymore. Unfortunatley my wife still misses hanging out there drinking her coffee. read more

I was in the cafe area with my boyfriend and we were both skimming through a book. One of his legs was crossed over my leg I'm not the type that is about public display of affection. But that was really nothing. It was freezing. The cranky old lady with the gray hair and glasses who seriously looked like she hated being there felt the need to say something in such a loud and rude tone "excuse me this is a family store u guys can't be all over each other like that". We apologized and left right after feeling embarrassed. One I don't think we were inappropriate at all and second if she thought it was inappropriate she could've handled it professionally instead of purposely raising her voice so others could hear. Never going again. Surprised they're still in business with that kind if customer service. Worse than the DMV. read more

I'm always able to relax in here with a nice drink and some magazines. I feel a little bad for the staff that have to put back a mountain of magazines from a single customer. I drink my coffee, read my magazine, and put the magazine BACK when I'm done! A little politeness goes both ways, people! The cafe staff is always friendly and understanding with drink orders if it is made clear to them what is needed. It's a great place to hang out! read more

This is a lovely place to come for coffee, browse magazines and search for books. My complaints are seriously bad music. This is a place for reading after all and the music is atrocious and grating. Also the poetry section is terribly small and lacking and is hidden away in a corner by children's toys. In other stores it is part of the literature section where it should be. read more

While I enjoy browsing the book shelves the service is pretty poor. Today no one was at the help desk and the computer could'nt find Lydia Bastianich. When in fact I finally found three of her cookbooks on the shelves. The cookbook section is especially confusing with no rhyme or reason to the shelving. The worst of this particular store is their checkout. Usually has very long lines and only one cashier while there are employees wandering about not doing much. Today I thought I was lucky, only one ahead of me until she asked the cashier about his mother. Then I was treated to a litany of how badly the medical appointment went. Just when I hoped we could move on the customer starts to give him advice on how to complain to the company. This included exchanging phone numbers. THEN he forgot to deactivate the security chip and had to leave the register to retrieve them! I spend approximately $100 a month in this store but am wondering if it is really worth it. read more

Barnes & Noble Cafe - Murrieta/Temecula (Promenade Mall). I am very disappointed how they treat CUSTOMERS who sit in their cafe. I fully understand that the cafe is set-up to make money from selling its food and drink menu items, etc., however, as a courtesy I wish they would not tell customers to leave the cafe if they aren't buying those items. I was there yesterday during the morning hours and the cafe was empty (approximately 15+ tables were vacant). However, there were about 5 people who were sitting in the cafe reading books without purchasing a cafe menu item and one of the Cafe employees asked each of these customers to either buy something from the cafe or leave. HOW RUDE! I would certainly understand if it was a busy day and the cafe was overflowing with customers, but the majority of the tables were vacant! One Customer even challenged the Cafe employee, and I was about to, but decided what good will it do if she is enforcing what the store managers request. I think they should revisit this rule and only make this request when the cafe is busy. It's so rude to treat others in that respect. GOLDEN RULE always. read more

What do I even say? I have never written a negative review before, but I really felt this one is warranted. It's a bummer coming in to grab a morning coffee only to be greeted by a grumpy "barista". I absolutely love Barnes and Noble, but this café is just horrible. Temecula really needs to get another bookstore. The Barnes and Noble in Temecula is pathetic! First of all, the bathrooms are never clean and are extremely disgusting. Secondly, other than the sweet girl who works in the children's book area, you can never find someone to help you. And lastly, the manager of the cafe is NASTY and hunts you down like prey when you walk into the cafe. Before you can even put your butt in a seat, she is informing you that a) you can't sit there unless you purchase a drink; b) you can only have 2 store items (i.e. books, magazines); c) you have 30 minutes in which to read your material and finish your cafe purchase - unless of course you want to spend another $5 on coffee - which extends your "seat" time for another 30 minutes. At this point I would rather eat dirt than spend another $.01 in this bookstore and will be doing all of my purchases online - FROM AMAZON! read more

Why do they have a guard in the front? Beware of the ground people, they might make you trip. More seats to read would be nice. read more

Manager was exceedingly rude when I went in to return a nook that I ordered online. I had gone in earlier that day with an email confirmation of the order but was turned away because they needed the paper receipt that was shipped with it. I went home and got it, came back later that day to two very nice cashiers who were happy to help and started the return. I guess they needed manager clearance before they could issue the return so they called over a very snappy and unpleasant manager who would briefly look over the receipt and computer screen and tell the cashier to cancel it. She didn't bother to explain anything to me but rather told the cashier "it's gonna be store credit because that's what it's coming up as". For transperency, the item had been opened but the physical reciept stated that it could be returned to a local store within 14 days of the delivery date for a full refund and had no contingencies otherwise stated. I asked about their return policy and started reading the return policy out loud and she kind of quickly snapped and said she would override the return and issue it back to me. I got my money back in the end but I will not do business with Barnes n nobles again. Ive worked in customer service for around 7 years and have come in to work with plenty of bad days so I can understand having the occasional bad day, everyone's entitled to it. However if this lady is in charge of customer service associates, she really needs to start leading by example or find a different line of work. That type of experience can really ruin someone's day or more importantly destroy people's perception of a company, as it did mine. I don't normally hop on yelp to flame places or people as most people do, but I really hope nobody else has a similar experience. It was a good reminder of why online shopping is becoming so popular and I'll probably just stick to that from now on. read more

Before I even entered into the women's bathroom I could smell the toxic chemicals coming from a solid toxic chemical over the rim cleaner. I became extremely dizzy, nauseous and light headed being in the bathroom for only a few minutes. Using my sleeve plus a surgical mask that I used for working with dusty stuff didn't make any difference. Hours later my throat is still sore and I'm nauseous. If you insist to totally disregard the health of you customers and staff you should at least put a sign on the door that one must enter at their own risk. When you choose to use fragrances, chemicals or pesticides, you are not simply making a choice for yourself, you are making a choice for everyone around you." This store should be shut down for being a health hazard. Removing the offensive toxic substance isn't good enough now the room has to off gas and air out for a few months. read more

Burnt out employees. Poor costumer service every time I come here. Plan on looking for your book on your own. In the decade it's been here not once has someone came up and offered help. The store looks like a mess, no place to sit down so you can browse and read a chapter or two before you buy the book. There is a Starbucks kiosk and there are some chairs but after you finish your drink expect to be booted out rudely. I used to love coming here to grab a coffee, catch up on some writing, and enjoy a good book in between classes, before buying it. well I have since noticed, this is not allowed. As others have mentioned, the outlets are blocked so there goes the writing for my papers. Thats a bummer. What saddens me the most is they took away those comfy chairs that used to be everywhere! Theres like NOWHERE to sit anymore! I ended up sitting in a corner to flip pages through a book, and was nearly immediately asked to relocate or buy the book. Went to the starbucks seating area, and again was asked to buy or leave. RUDE. The starbucks does not allow giftcards, and that sucks because I am an avid giftcard reciever of starbucks! haha. The thing is Barnes and Nobles was about the pleasant ambiance of sitting down and reading a good ol' hard copy book in a comfy chair and knocking out some studying, in place other than my house. This place WAS fun to me, and made reading enjoyable, but now I will not be returning :( PS- Just my 2 cents, I think this place is trying to stay open at all costs, even if that means FORCING US to spend money here, because as we know, people just dont read books as often anymore.However, by treating their customers this way, they are causing people to run away from B&N, and in the process they are losing money. Cafe staff are very friendly! Good selection in cafe and bookstore. I had no problem with this Barnes and Noble until an experience a few weeks ago. 15 minutes before closing, an older woman was walking around collecting books to be returned to their shelves, which is fine, but she was being very rude, snapping at us and treating us like our being at Barnes was inconvenient for her. Her rudeness was enough that I don't know if I'll be returning to this location. read more

I went in and sat in the cafe to look through wedding magazines and didn't find anything I wanted which was frustrating, but the cafe staff was so nice and encouraging! The only problem was the closing crew. The older lady who came by to pick up books a few minutes before closing was visibly upset that I wasn't going to buy anything, and after a stressful, somewhat unsuccessful day of wedding planning that really was not what I needed and was enough to make me not want to go back. read more

I had not been inside this Barnes for about a year but boy have things gone south. Customer Service seems almost hostile towards customers, especially in the coffee area. Bathrooms are filthy.
