Welcome to State Street, Barnes & Noble! If you're suffering retail whiplash at this corner, you're not alone. This location was a Borders back in the 90s. Then it was an Old Navy. Then it was nothing for three years. Gone are the rows and rows of squished-in bookshelves; the "new" B&N format features stores with wide aisles, plenty of lighting, and everything is in little sections. They also have a sizable toys (mostly LEGOs) section along with a smallish selection of stuff for journaling - diaries, calendars, blank notebooks. There's a planned cafe for the third floor, but it doesn't look like they're in a hurry to open it. There are a ton of places to get coffee around this part of the Loop. I noticed a healthy amount of opening week & weekend book signings; let's hope they keep supporting local authors. The service has been great the couple times I've shopped. The only thing missing is a list of magazines they carry. They have a magazine person who comes in regularly and stocks the section, but no list. They do not price match Amazon, though they will match the price on the B&N website price which can be a little cheaper than full retail. Note that this is a corporate B&N and differs from the DePaul co-op location further south on State St. read more
