Let's start off with some housekeeping matters. This is not instagram and I was not paid for this ad, so this is all coming from the unfiltered version. I took the July 2017 California Bar Exam, and I did not pass. I took Barbri as my first course. I was recommended to BarMD by a BarMD alumni, and probably within 15 seconds of her pitch, I was sold. Needless to say, I sat for the February 2018 California Bar Exam, and I passed, and it was the most surreal feeling I will probably experience. Now onto why you shouldn't even blink before choosing this course. David sent me a chart, called me, and checked in on me to make sure I had it down and could recite it in my sleep before we moved on from that topic. I did not pass the February 2017 California bar exam and received a referral to BarMD. I met with Maureen to discuss my weaknesses and how I needed to improve to pass the bar. Bar-MD is a terrific bar study & preparation service! I took the February 2021 California exam for the first time and passed. There is probably a 0% chance that I would have passed without Maureen, and her thoughtful, focused, personalized and very humane approach to studying. The course was ideal for: -Studying at your own pace -Studying remotely -Having to organize study times around a full-time day job -Not having any prior familiarity with California law Maureen was fantastic from Day 1, and focused the course on the substantive issues, and the test-taking skills, that actually mattered. For me, I really needed to work on essay-writing (against an absurd 1-hour time limit), as well as learning the substantive law. She is particularly experienced in teaching exactly how to approach the essays, and focuses on the specific things that the bar graders review in their grading formula. Everyone's situation studying for the bar is different, so here was mine: I was admitted in another state over 20 years ago, and have not taken an exam or been in a classroom for a looonnggg time. I have not had any prior exposure to California law. I was taking California's one-day "Attorneys Exam" for lawyers who are moving from elsewhere. It is essentially just the essay questions from the full California exam, without the multiple-choice questions. I remembered almost nothing substantive from law school, and practice in-house in a very specialized niche area that has no relevance to anything that would ever come up on a bar exam. My regular job continued full time, so I had to fit studying in evenings and weekends, without getting burned out, during what turned out to be California's worst period for the Pandemic in December-January. It was also less expensive than most of the other class options that I looked at. Now my biggest problem is trying to perform a brain memory-dump so that I can free up neurons and memory capacity for information more enjoyable than Property Law Easements. Maureen is amazing! I used her Essay Writing and PT Workshop for the February 2021 bar exam. I was unsuccessful on the bar exam and scored well on my MBE and it was clear I needed help with my essays. Maureen's techniques are what set her apart from other bar prep programs...and I took Kaplan before her. She has a very specific essay writing technique that really trained me and my bestfriend (who also passed), on how to pass the bar. It is a science by the time you finish her workshop. We went into the bar exam and it was second nature to use Maureen's technique. Having access to her outlines and essay structure prepared me tremendously. Some of the specific topics...not just subjects but topics...she detailed in our workshops ended up being on the exam. I was so prepared and felt good after each essay. Even though it is not the purpose of the essay workshop, my substantive knowledge grew as well. There issues and topics that I did not know before going over them with Maureen in her workshop. Also, her essay structure is life changing! I had no idea before what was needed to pass the bar. In summary, that is what Maureen provides. A knowledge bank of how to address specific topics and subjects so that you write what is needed to pass. Once you know, it isn't hard but most of us don't know unless someone teaches us! It is pricey but it is more than worth the money. Both me and my bestfriend passed the bar and now have options for our dream careers as attorneys with potential employers. After I failed the July 2016 CA bar exam, I felt hopeless. I have a BA and MA in English, I received a high pass in Advanced Legal Writing and served as a TA, but I was 10 points shy of passing because of the essays. Crushed doesn't even begin to describe my feelings. I signed up with Bar MD and from the first day of class I was impressed. They start off in a unique, but necessary way. They had us write down our fears and discuss (if we felt comfortable) why we had those fears about the bar. This is important because it takes those internal fears and transforms them into something tangible. Once those fears are tangible, you can throw them away and start to get to work. After that exercise, they start with the basics of active, concise writing. I already had those skills down, but it was a nice refresher. They then talked about the IRAC structure itself. This is where they really impressed me. Everyone thinks they know IRAC (myself included), but obviously there's a reason I was ten points shy of passing. They explained bar exam IRAC in such a clear manner, I was blown away. No one - including classes at my law school or other major bar prep companies - had ever explained the mechanics of it so well.
