I wanted these chairs to be renewed but without destroying their late 1800s character. I opted for a green velvet. I was confident that Mary would take good care of these chairs when she saw them and got excited about the restoration. These chairs turned out beautiful - Mary restored the springs, batting and straps to preserve the firm but comfortable seating. The velvet and piping work are beautiful. My husband and I had six Lane danish modern dining chairs from the '60s that needed new cane backs. The danish modern style weave needed to be ordered specially. Paul already had a relationship with a supplier of this uncommon product. The sheet caning and splines also needed to be dyed to match the coloring of the wood frames. He color-matched it all perfectly. And the caning work itself is really handsome. The chairs have gotten rave compliments for very design savvy friends. Paul is clearly very enthusiastic about the work he does. While my chairs only required sheet caning, he also does the traditional and much more skill-intensive hand weaving He showed me beautiful hand caned work he did as well as rawhide repair and other types of seat weaving. I almost wish I needed some of this work done! Lastly, but also very important is what a pleasant and conscientious person he is. He is remarkably polite and easy to talk to. His prices were very reasonable and he had the work done within the timeframe he originally proposed.
