The first time I called, he told me how to fix something myself because it was simple and he wanted to save me the money. So, I did just like he said and saved a few hundred bucks. Well, my water heater shorted and needed to be replaced and so I called him back and he remembered me! He asked me about the old problem and I let him know the sink was no longer leaking. He came out to my home to look at the water heater the same day and had me up in running with new hot water within 48 hours of when I called him. I'm not trying to brag on them too much, but this is the prettiest plumbing job I've ever seen and with the copper pipes he put in, this should last forever! read more

These guys showed up to repair a hot water tank. Not only was "Ed" incredibly rude, he left water on the floor under the tank, he tossed wet packaging inside a tub of tools/supplies I had sitting there, instead of actually taking it with him or asking where the trash is, AND he screwed up our hot water tank and it wouldnt work at all after he left! Guy did a complete half assed job and I had to hire another plumber to fix his screw ups. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THESE PEOPLE!! read more

Hire these people if you require a plumber. In an age largely dedicated to the "take the money and run mentality" Lyn, the owner of Barlow Plumbing Service, really didn't want to do that. Nearly three years ago we hired this company to install a hot water heater for our home in N. Asheville. They did exactly that. It worked properly until the day it didn't. We called them and they were kind enough to report to the house that very day. We were so grateful because we noted the "no hot water problem" on Saturday so by Monday, a shower was looking mighty good. The plumber noted that both the thermostats and the heating elements in the hot water heater tested fine. The unit had power. In further investigating of our issue, Ed asked my husband to turn off the breaker going to the hot water heater. In a few moments, Gary reported he'd flipped the breaker to the off position. It was then that we knew there was something else going on. Steve and Ed, from Barlow went to the breaker panel and attempted to throw the breaker again. No dice. Power still going to the unit. Time for discussion with Lyn, Barlow's owner, who says he thinks we need to have an electrician evaluate the panel and we see our shower begin to fade into the ether. Lyn strongly feels that the problem is not the hot water heater but the electricity to the hot water heater. I mention that the panel aside, the unit is getting power and if both the thermostats and the heating elements are working I would think that if there really is not a problem with the unit I fail to understand why we don't have hot water. Lyn , again, fails to take our money truly believing that after charging us for two heating units and two thermostats (not a bargain to be sure) we will still have the same problem. Blessedly, our electrician arrives that afternoon to find a very serious problem with the breaker to the water heater melted the size of two quarters. The power, though going to the heater, was also affected hence the power to the unit -but compromised power- resulting in the hot water heater not making hot water. The electrician fixed our panel and immediately, not even requiring another press to the reset button on the hot water heater, the unit started right up and in an hour we had hot water and blessedly...A shower. Lyn could have taken the money and run. He truly felt that our lack of hot water had nothing to do with the heater and took his time on what I am sure was a busy Monday morning to explain all this to my husband and me. This is a unique and rare business in these days and times. Ernest desire to do a good job, honest business practices and customer centric customer service dedicated to really solving the problem. Had a pipe fail in the wall between the master bath and the master bedroom. Called Barlow and they had someone there within an hour or so. Installed a new valve and replaced the failed copper with PEX. Also had them install a new sink faucet. I was pleased with the professionalism and the quality of work. I had a leaky faucet. It was under warranty from manufacturer. Barlow put the new one in but left wrench chatter marks all over bronzed finish. Showed the techs the damage. They basically said it was not their problem and got in the truck and ran away. The owner called and is trying to fix this problem. read more

We had a poor experience with American Home Shield coverage for a rental we own. Barlow plumbing was assigned the job and could not clear our sewer drain. It turns out they could have done a better job and I wrote a derogatory review. I was mainly critical of AHS for the poor service but Barlow got smeared with that review also. Well, Mr Barlow called me within minutes of posting the review and did everything he could to correct the situation. He actually sent me money to pay for part of the plumbing service I had to rapidly hire when AHS ignored our requests for additional work. After our conversation, I wished I had called Barlow first, they would have tried hard to address the problem. Going through AHS to get that service was not a real option. In the future, I would call the company I am disappointed with. That is the lesson I learned and I would encourage anyone else to do that also. I would not hesitate to call Barlow should I have another plumbing issue. They are a good responsible local company and I am impressed with the responsiveness of the Owner. read more

Want to give a shout out to Lynn Barlow for his exceptional service and professionalism. We had a small leak in our bathroom ceiling downstairs.The leak made a small mark in the acoustical tile on the ceiling, and this was a recurring incident. Every time the plumber came out, everything above the tile was bone dry and yet in a few days there would be another water mark. Mr Barlow has been determined to find the source of the leak and has checked and capped every possible connection and has come out more than several times to solve the problem. So far we have a clean acoustical tile with no leaks and we thank Mr Barlow for his perseverance and assurance that he is available to us should there be any further issues. I had Barlow do some pipe replacement and filter ( which I provided) installation, and it was done correctly as far as we can tell, BUT they take their sweet time on site and charged $5000 for one day of work and minimal parts. We woke up on the morning of New Year's Eve only to find water coming down the wall of our spare bedroom in the basement. It had flooded the carpeting in that room and the linoleum flooring in the basement hall. After calling several plumbers, Barlow Plumbing took the job because we had to turn our water off.
