Do NOT go there. We went on a Saturday evening before a show at the Civic Theatre. It was not busy and now we know why. We waited over an hour for one plate of food and was assured the other three plates would be right out waited another 20 minutes and no food. By this time we had to leave or we would miss our show. We asked for the bill for the one plate of food and a bill was sent out for the two people that didn't even receive their food. At this point we asked to speak to the manager. Almost empty on a Saturday afternoon and after the hostess seated us, we got completely ignored. Maybe 5 tables in the place, after 10 minutes the hostess came back to take our drink orders. We got one of two drinks as the hostess was too young to serve a beer. After ANOTHER fifteen minutes my beer had not arrived and the bartender was not coming over, no waitress had appeared either. This used to be a good place, I used to meet friends there and have groups there, sometimes I would stop in before a ballgame. It's really s shame. This was our first time ordering and picking up and was disappointed. We were charged for chicken and extra cheese. There was very little if any cheese on the salad and very little chicken. They charged 4.00 for chicken and .75 for extra cheese. My boss order the chicken tender basket and was pleased. He was just upset that we got charged for stuff that wasn't added to the food order. This location is more for chill drinking vibes. The service was a little slow the day I went, but the staff was friendly. I personally did not have anything to drink, but I ended up getting the Margherita pizza which was okay. It was super cheesy and hot, but it did not taste good cold. It is more of a drunk food type. It is also slightly expensive for what you are getting. Overall, I don't recommend this location if you are trying to eat dinner. Four of us went to Barley House to watch the Final Four and enjoy some beer and appetizers. We ordered a generous selection of apps and beers. Our first choice of appetizers was sold out despite the fact it was early in the evening. The various other appetizers were delivered long after we ordered them, sporadically 1 at a time over about an hour and a half despite our having ordered them all at once for delivery at the same time. Well, actually, one of our orders was never delivered at all. Our server, who admitted that she is new, handed us our glasses of beer by holding them at the rims of the glasses-- the exact spots where we would be sipping, instead of minimizing possible transfer of germs by holding the glasses below the rims. The exceptionally LOUD music prevented our hearing one word of the sportscast. The Final Four is one of the major sporting events of the year and we quite reasonably expected that we would be able to view the game without being deafened by "Dancing Queen." Granted there was street parking, but we didn't get so lucky. Anyway, the bar has a super laid back vibe with tons of seating to accommodate a crowd. We came here for dinner at 6pm on a Sunday. There was only one server and a bartender working, and they could not keep up, even though the restaurant was mostly empty. It was 15 minutes before the server even came to our table, then our food took another hour after that, and didn't come out together. I finished eating my food before my daughter's pretzel sticks came out. They also brought the wrong side with one of the kids meal. When the correct side finally came out, we were told that they didn't come out with the food because they wanted them to be fresh. The entire experience was ridiculous. You would think they would take something off of the bill, or offer a free dessert or something, but as far as I could tell there wasn't even a manager working to be able to do that. read more

It's lunch time and you find yourself in this part of downtown Akron, the Barley House can be quite an attractive option it was for me and a group of associates on a recent Wednesday early afternoon. I was a little surprised to to find this beautiful sports bar / restaurant nearly empty with all the businesses in the immediate area. We grabbed a high top near the atrium of the building its integrated with after walking through the entire restaurant to find the hostess station in front of the restaurant since we entered from the adjoining office space and parking garage in the rear. The Service - attentive, friendly and interacted with our group well The Restaurant - large, nice décor and clean The Food - it was okay, just okay in my opinion, the chef has his own twist which somewhat works Lobster Bisque - great texture, served hot, has a touch too much of sherry and could have used a tad bit more lobster meat - pretty tasty though Club Sandwich - Deli meats were fresh, the vegetables were as well, great toasted bread but not a memorable sandwich by any means unfortunately. Where do I even begin? If I could give a ZERO I would. We arrived at 6:15pm and had until 7:45pm for dinner, thinking it'd be plenty of time. I should have known better because I read Yelp reviews and many said the service sucks and they're incredibly slow. We sat down and ordered by 6:30 and then waited and waited and waited on our food. Our server came by maybe three times {MAYBE} and when we asked at 7:10 what the status was in our food she was rather annoyed with our asking and told us that the kitchen was slammed and the food would be out when it was out. We ended up having to cancel our entire order and left HANGRY. I had ordered the beer cheese soup and the chicken avocado salad and was so eager to try both. I can't even express how incredibly awful this experience was. I have NEVER left a restaurant without eating because they didn't bring my food. To make it worse, we asked to speak to the manager at 7:20 and they never came over. So we were still charged for drinks we had ordered... no one apologized for the delay, no one comped our bill... it was insult to injury. I hate driving around downtown Akron, especially with all the construction everywhere, but it is a necessary evil sometimes. My children LOVED the menu. He was disappointed to find they don't serve boneless, but he absolutely loved them anyways. He ordered a BBQ and can't wait to go back. I come to Barley House 2-3 times a month on Tuesday night for their trivia. I always have a great time with all of my friends. They have at least 20-30 beers on tap that are constantly rotating and a very large food menu. All of the food is excellent. I've gotten burgers, wraps, salads, soup, sandwiches, poke bowls, etc. It has all been very good. The bartenders are nice as well as all of the waitresses. Food usually comes out in a relatively quick manner and drinks don't typically take too long to get. The only complaint I have is that each beer is $5 or more for a pint and sometimes less than a pint. Therefore when I go, if I get 3 beers and a burger I'm already at $25 pre tip. Love the selection and variety though so I keep coming back. Wish they had options for flights, but maybe something for the future. read more

Ordered through yelp before they stopped taking online orders. I arrived 15 minutes after I ordered my food around 10:30pm and the doors were locked. There were two people sitting at the bar staring at me drinking beer on shift, they never came to the door to explain why they closed early. I sat in front trying to find somewhere else to eat and an older guy with glasses came out I asked him what time they closed he said he doesn't work there but he walked out the locked doors. I checked my bank and the full $30 came out my account, not sure why their system was able to take money out my account or they are advertising the wrong hours but the workers are incapable of staying the whole shift to preparing the rest of the orders. I truly underestimated this restaurant. My boss treated us to takeout lunch from Barley House earlier today. The chicken wrap and french fries were great! I love how the fries were battered with the right amount of crisp. I will definitely be adding this place to my list of lunch spots in Akron. read more
