Brookline Village

I have gone to the Brookline BSM location for several months to deal with some injury related…read moreissues as well as general strengthening. I worked with Sammy and Kait who are both excellent therapists. At age 77 and with COVID changing everyone's life (I have not contracted it and am fully vaccinated ) I know that I have been loosing muscle mass. On top of that I was thrown off a horse about a year and a half ago and continue to deal with the broken shoulder ,several broken ribs and a punctured lung I suffered. So I needed help getting back in shape. Both women worked hard to evaluate the various problems and work out exercise and stretching routines that would help me regain much of what I had lost. There were about 10-15 different movements, stretches, lifting I needed to work on to get the job done. I worked diligently on my own and many times with them, and feel I have made great progress! I walk 3-5 miles a day, play golf, flyfish, carry my grandchildren around etc. So, even though I have not found the fountain of youth, my vigorous life is back. Thank you Sammy and Kait!

Allston/Brighton

After experiencing shoulder and lower back pain, I talked to my doctor at Beth Israel Hospital and…read morewe agreed that I should pursue some physical therapy. Boston Sports Medicine came up as the first option while looking for PT in the Allston area - it's only a 7 minute walk from my apartment and I could easily go there before and after work due to their great hours. Amanda Herring was my PT and she was amazing!!! I decided to started PT only two weeks before I am due to move out of state, and she managed to see me five times in those two weeks. She is so friendly yet professional and I have definitely felt less stress in my shoulders and back since she's worked her magic with massage. The exercises Amanda taught me are also very helpful and doable at home - after seeing her I've learned about muscles I wasn't aware existed. She's great at explaining what each exercise is for and answering questions in general. If you come to Boston Sports Medicine, you should ask to see Amanda! Only thing to be aware of is that there doesn't always seem to be an administrator in the office and when she is there, she might not know what you're due to pay. So just know what your copay is and keep track of payments yourself.

Aquatic PT - Broken water heater in pool (no warning), dangerous for patients…read more I'd like to say that I have had a great experience at the Boston Sports Medicine location in Davis Square. This review is only for the aquatic PT/Kristen, at the Allston location. I made an appointment for aquatic PT this December. Since it takes me an hour to travel to Allston, I booked a few weeks in advance to get an appointment after work hours. I wasn't told at any time in advance that the pool water heater does not work properly. (Approximately 90 degrees is standard for aquatic PT and the BSM Allston website says that the pool is always kept at 88-90 degrees.) Even directly before I got in the water, Kristen emphasized that the pool was heated. It was clear when I got in the water that it was below room temperature; I would estimate 60 degrees. Seconds later, after I got in the water and commented on the cold temperature, Kristen said that the pool doesn't heat fully in winter and other patients regularly bring long sleeved shirts to wear in the pool. Kristen told me the heat was set to 92. She said she turned it up at my request, but the water remained extremely cold. I wish I had been told about this issue when making the appointment as I would never have come in to begin with. The next day I woke up with very painful muscle spasms that have not alleviated days later. I made calls to other physical therapists the next day, but I will now have to wait over a month to get an aquatic PT appointment elsewhere. The PT said she had other aquatic therapy patients who have the same muscular concern I came in for, so I thought it would be safe to stay in the pool despite the discomfort. I told her how cold it was and my concerns of potential muscle spasms, and I was shivering intensely and she didn't seem to care. She didn't check how cold the water felt at any point, or express any compassion. I'm so upset by how I was treated. I am struggling greatly with the resulting spasms, which would have been entirely preventable if BSM Allston had been honest and straightforward about their facilities. They absolutely should not be offering aquatic PT under these conditions, let alone without telling patients until they're in the pool.

Even when I have had set-backs, Danielle is always positive and encouraging. The team at Boston Sports Medicine are very knowledgeable and friendly. Don't do it to yourself. I now have more problems than I had when I went in! It is costly and sad…read morebecause my treatment was going very well -- until Dr. Lingerfelt performed a test on me that I have now found out was done improperly. And, since she lied in her notes about what actually happened, the insurance company isn't paying. Wow. I hope that doesn't happen to anyone else! It is miserable to go through each day in this pain. But it isn't fair to only mention Dr. Lingerfelt. This weekend, in an email from the owner, I found out that Dr. Clark also kept notes that indicated I was recovered but in fact I was limping and couldn't breathe when she discharged me! (I wasn't limping and I could breathe fine when I came to the center for treatment months earlier.) Dr. Clark also refused to give me treatment that was prescribed by my physiatrist to help the situation, a treatment he was emphatic about. Another physical therapist has since explained to me the connection between this part of the back and all of my problems, and why it is key to my recovery. So, now I know that neither one had the knowledge or experience to know what treatment I needed. And, they point-blank disregarded the professional who did! The consequences to me have been severe. It took me a while to decide to write this. At first I believed it was the insurance company's fault for sticking me. But after a Dept of Health reviewer wrote to me of what Dr. Lingerfelt had put in her notes, I realized it was because they didn't know what actually happened. I am writing this review because if there had been reviews on yelp, I would have gone somewhere else and might not be in this situation, where months later I am still paying, and still unable to function normally.
