I have been coming to Barks and Recreation for years. My first dog before he passed loved it so much. The staff is top notch! Now my new baby Sir Bentley enjoys it. Last year we moved away to Maryland and when we visit this is the first place for him to come and play with all his friends. We have not found a place where we live now but when he comes home he is so excited to go and the staff is always happy to see him. Highly recommend! read more

Hi, This isn't really a review so much as a snapshot of what happened to one 10 yr+ loyal Patron. This was my third attempt to contact. This email was on Wednesday July 27th, 2022. I am posting on Yelp Friday July 29th. Hi, This is my 3rd attempt contacting you. I sent a previous email on Sunday and then left a voice mail on Tuesday, neither have been responded to. This is the 1st time in a 10+ year history this has ever happened and it is concerning. If nothing else, a 10+ year customer who stayed loyal through the Tails R Waggin fiasco deserves a return call, even if you are at capacity. They are so sweet, so caring, and always take great care of our boys. We have been going to Barks and Rec for about 3 years now and couldn't imaging trusting anyone else with our dogs. We have been on several trips and can leave with ease knowing we can check on our dogs via their doggie cams and knowing that the staff will take excellent care of them! read more

Their facility is failing and it cost me $514 in vet bills. The staff is nice and the location is very convenient. We loved taking Owen there and he had a blast but there are MAJOR PROBLEMS. The floor is peeling up. There are several coats of paint that are failing and the dogs can peel up bits and them. My dog has had several bowel movements with these grey and green paint chips in them. He also got sick and regurgitated what looked like rope fiber and more Grey and green paint chips. I asked one of the staff and she acknowledged that the dogs sometimes do eat the flooring and that the fiber was from the inside of one of the baby mattresses they leave out for the dogs to lay on. Apparently some dogs tear open the mattresses and pull the filling out, some of it gets eaten, my dog ate some. I know you can't keep all dogs from getting into and eating weird things but these two things can be fixed! They won't fix the two obvious problems for the safety of ALL DOGS, they blame the animal and claim no responsibility for them. Not my idea of a caring environment or proactive management. I even gave them contact info for flooring contractors who could help fix the floor. They declined. read more

This doggie daycare is a wonderful place to take your dog! We have trusted and taken our high-energy German Shepherd to them for a few years. They absolutely do not abuse dogs and both my husband and I feel our dog is truly cared for. All the staff are extremely friendly and the facility is well organized. Each time she goes they use a tracker to tell us about her visit and keep record of her things. Koda comes back exhausted and so happy anytime we are away on vacation. I have used other doggie daycares on the west side and I prefer them over the rest. read more

I have been a HUGE fan of this place for many years. The staff have helped me keep sane through having 2 high energy dogs, both of which have needed regular day care/exercise. They also saved my fanny several years ago, when my dog was severely bitten at another day care, not once but twice. (That place was decent, but their staff had no idea how to manage the high energy, cantankerous dogs.) Once I started using Barks and Recreation - no more emergency trips to the vet to have my dog sewn back together. I use this facility for day care, kenneling and baths ... it's the BEST! read more

My dog Penney is a rescue and loves her time at this place. It is both playtime and therapy for her as she slowly learns how to trust and become a regular dog again. For my family, it has been a God-send and we love seeing her so happy. We had used this facility several years ago with another dog who has since passed away. Never had any problems and the staff is wonderful and accommodating. I highly recommend it! read more

For the most part the staff was friendly- though at intake, the employee misread my paperwork and didn't realize my puppy had all of of the necessary shots. It caused me to have to make additional, unnecessary trips and phone calls just to get him checked in for boarding. After that, the staff was friendly. However, at pick up I could tell my puppy was not himself. He slept endlessly, and then the vomiting and diarrhea started. The lethargy and diarrhea lasted for four days and ended with a costly trip to the vet and antibiotics. My eight month old puppy had never been boarded before and was in perfect health at drop off. I will not be utilizing their services in the future. read more

My dog is a regular here, And he loves this place i haven't had any problems. It's great service and the dogs are having fun.

Today I took my dog blackjack for an assessment to use their facility. It was not a pleasant experience for my dog or myself. He came home with marks on the inner of his legs and bleeding. They told me that he was just fine when I called how to check in on him. They also charge for their assessments which they did not tell me when I dropped him off. Additionally they're supposed to have cameras and when I try to use the app on my phone, home PC, and tablet it did not work and when I call them no one was able to assist me. I had asked about having a tour was told that due to their busy season that would not be available. Please do not take your animal there. When I talk to them about what's happened to my dog and ask for incident report they refuse to give me one. They claim that they had saw the blood earlier in the day on his paw and cleaned it off, he was fine. They don't know what else happened to him. I think that's very poor supervison and service to the dogs and owner. I called and they never told me there was anything wrong with my dog earlier in the day. A matter of fact I spoke to them twice because I needed to have the camera working on the app. Even during a pickup they never mentioned that there was anything wrong with my dog. read more

Excellent service. Nice separation of large and small dogs so my dog can play with others his size. So clean and well staffed. There WAS one well publicized regrettable incident with a dog where a staff member was shown on camera defending herself from what she felt was an impending attack.This made the local news. I think it was a one time situation. The facility has many cameras and you can watch your dog all day on your phone or computer. Groomer on site as well. read more

I would not ever recommend this place for anything not even a job, I thought working for a private family owned business would be a great change for me boy was I wrong. This place is so unprofessional and unsafe it's ridiculous. Let's start where I was majority of the time in the "grooming salon"...very unsafe someone will probably get electrocuted sooner or later, outlets constantly going out, cage dryers and velocity dryers on the floor which is always being soaked from bathed or cleaning, cages are broke, cheap grooming tables that any professional groomer will tell you that they are only good for small and medium dogs to be on. No they wanted me to groom huge big dogs on these cheap tables and attach them to these cheap poles. I complained 6x about how unsafe the tables and poles are for big dogs because the dogs can easily tip the table and rip the poles off which is what happened every time, I got hit in the head with a pole and so did the dog I was grooming. Doesn't matter if a dog is horrible they rather for me to finish the groom and risk myself getting bit or accidentally slicing the dog open then sending the dog home. I expressed to them that my first priority is the dogs safety and I rather send a dog home with hair cut half done then risk cutting the dog or getting bit. Which in that they say I have poor customer service skills and that I complain too much about the tables so they "fired me" but I was going to quit anyway. I've also have seen on different occasions staff hitting dogs and these dogs don't belong to them. No benefits, no vacation pay or sick time pay, I wasn't even told how much I made hourly. I was told that I'm a Commission employee and I didn't make hourly...ok I knw that but I still need to know how much I would make if I was hourly. And no paystubs. I'm actually relieved I'm not working for this place anymore. And yes the owner for tails and wag owns this place she just change the name read more
