I'm very happy with the full groom on my pup. Jillian was very nice & answered all my questions when I went in to book an appt. I decided to do express service so my pup does not need to be in a crate. I usually have a mobile groomer come to my house. She is on maternity leave so needed a new groomer. A friend recommended Barkley's. Lacey did the groom on the day of our appointment. I think she did an excellent job. I will definitely be using Bartley's & Lacey on our next groom. Updating my previous review: I'm not sure what's happening at this groomer. They had great groomers in the past at reasonable prices but in the last few months or so the quality has gone down and the previous groomers that were really good are gone. My appointment in Dec. did not go well. There was a sign on the door that said something to the effect that there will be a small increase in prices due to operating costs. When it came time to pay, the price went up $30/+37%. Over the last few years that we've been going here, the price I paid was for a small doodle but the person who checked me out said she's really in between small and medium. In addition, the groomer overlooked trimming the hair on my dog's tail and ears. Granted the small matting on one ear was trimmed off but that was the extent of it. I hate leaving bad reviews for small businesses but it's time to look for a new groomer whose prices are more in line with market standards and where my dog can get a complete grooming. read more

I wanted to update my previous review and report that I am still extremely happy with Barkley's. They have been extremely flexible when scheduling. I have probably brought my dog here maybe 9 times or so. They do such a great job and I'm very happy with their work. The past groomers that I have been to have been such a joke compared to this place. I can tell that they love dogs and the girls are always so excited to see my dog when I bring her in. That makes me feel good, because it sucks leaving your dog somewhere for a couple hours. My dog is usually so shy around people and everything scares her, but when I bring her into Barkleys she's actually excited to be there which says a lot. Thank you so much Barkley's!! You guys are the best! read more

Took my parents miniature poodle in and they cut too close to the skin so she has about an 2inches of redness around her stomach. Other than that they did an ok job. The appointment was originally supposed to be for my corgi but found another salon that took her sooner. Glad I went somewhere else because that was my main fear when taking my dog to her first grooming appointment. read more

The first few times, all was good. Then, our dog started showing signs of extreme distress when we picked him up, including sudden onset of diarrhea. We wanted to talk to the groomer (Gillian) but she refused to come out during our checkout. Later we left a couple of telephone messages trying to talk to them and find out what had happened. But nobody bothered to call us back. We had to cancel our future appointments and find another groomer. read more

My dog Winnie loves coming here! They always do such an amazing job taking care of her and making her look her best!!! We have been going to Barkley's for a couple years and have to say the best pet spa around! They are always so accommodating and love love ALL dogs. My little old man Maverick (mini Schnauzer) can be a handful and mouthy and they are the best dog whisperers over him...lol. We get our dogs groomed about every two months so by the time we take them they are usually 1 inch shaggy. We always ask for a close cut in the body because they love to run and hike in the bushes but we like to keep the Schnauzer face I had to post this pic because while I always give them an 'A' for quality... Today was an A ++ truly exceptional - such an even cut with no shave burn and faces cute as always. My little furry babies are so happy!! If you don't know about this pet grooming gem in RB then time to visit! I found them on Yelp two years ago and have been there ever since! read more

New manager switched our dog from medium to large after over four years of being a loyal customer. no warning; no communication beforehand. I was told the first time I brought our dog in that he was a medium, and we were happy for over three years. Now all of a sudden he is considered large and more expensive. The manager tried to play the "I took over being manager so things changed" card. When I asked her when she took over managing, she said February. We had brought our dog in in March and May and was still a medium, and nobody said a word. All of a sudden they charged more and when I asked for an explanation, I got "well, he is a large." Very poor customer service. We were happy with the groomers and they are good. The manager has poor communication skills and poor service to customers. read more

This is my first time here and I will be taking my dog here from now on. I walked in for a nail trim for my 9 years old Beagle, she never, ever liked getting her nails trim. Compared to other places i have been to, this place has done the best job. Other places even have me holding my dog, while they do the trim. Which i don't like that at all. They took the dog to the back room, came out roughly 20 mins later, I didn't heard any crying or whining at all. read more

This breaks my heart that I take my dog to a trusted place and they give her back to me looking like this without even saying anything. I was hesitant and nervous like many dog owners when finding a groomer. I just need my dogs bathed, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, etc the basics. I took my Frenchie there and the first time took double the time because he threw up out of excitement and they had to rewash him., understandable. After taking him here 2 times, I really liked how great he looked so I decided to take my 2nd Frenchie there. He has spinal issues and is prone to injury so I was really anxious and nervous. I told the girl who came to grab him to please lift him up like a forklift so that his spine is lateral and to not let him jump off anywhere or he can rupture or herniate a spinal disc. They had to increase prices due to inflation understandably but they're still a great deal in my opinion. I have been here 3 times now and really like their services and great my pups look. :) Thank you so much! read more

Let me be the first to rave about this place. My pup Milo first met Mr. Roger (the alopaw guy not the tv personality) because his parents were too lazy to take him to a groomer. Alopaw mobile service was just the thing for him. For a very reasonable fee Roger brought the spa to us. So when he told us he and his wife were opening up this convenient location right in Ranch Bernardo we knew we had to try. This hidden gem is behind some other stores in the shopping center so don't be afraid to get back there. The store front is cute with a vintage throwback theme. Our poor pup Milo was surprised with a grooming appointment, but I know he will come out a happy, fluffy boy. Thanks Roger! read more

You know when you run in to something so SPECTACULAR, so AMAZING you just have to share it?? That's how I feel about Barkley's Pet Spa in northern San Diego!!! Owners Angie and Rodger have an unparalleled level of customer service I haven't experienced in a long time. I've had dogs for (mumble mumble) years and been to too many groomers to count...and Barkley's is among my all-time faves! I found this great place on Yelp, and wanted to help other Yelpers know it was great, too. :) I took my corgi, Fiona, there recently for her first trip to the groomer...and she came out relaxed (yes, RELAXED :), smiling, and one very happy little pup! This isn't always the case with groomers, and when you find one like that, you count your lucky stars! They gave me the choice to either dremel (file) or cut her nails, and I opted for dremel. I loved that I had that choice. She looked great, her "pants" have never looked so floofy (admire the floof!), and she smelled like yummy papaya. Parking was easy, prices were reasonable, and they are located behind Unicorn Jewelers. (Not visible from the parking lot, just FYI, but worth the extra 10 steps. ;) A place as amazing as this deserves to THRIVE. I think that people this KIND, and this EXCELLENT at what they do deserve to flourish. So if you are lucky enough to be thinking about going there...give them a try! You'll love 'em!! We sure did. :D read more

Wonderful work. A previous dog groomer I've gone to (Petco) cost about $40 for a simple dog wash a brush...for about the same price we not only got a dog bath and comb, but other very thorough services like nail trimming, ear cleaning, trimming around the face, and more. I would have been charged extra for each service at Petco! My dog also had a lot of knots and look below to see how wonderful they did! We will definitely be back! read more

First time visit to the spa and was nervous about finding a new groomer close to my new home in Rancho Bernardo. From the first phone call to picking up my sweet perfectly groomed Tibetan Terrier I was 100% satisfied. Amanda listened to all my do and don'ts and followed each request to the letter. I would give this place MINUS 5 stars if possible. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THIS PLACE. I made an appointment for my dog to be bathed and trimmed. Instead of starting his grooming when we arrived, they tied him up and left him there for almost 4 hours. He is an older dog with separation anxiety and arthritis. Keeping him tied up where he couldn't move around was painful for him. When I called after they had him for 4 hours, they said he would be done in an hour. I hung up the phone & went over there. Their new groomer, Jillian, had done NOTHING but bathe him. I could hear my dog whimpering and crying. She brought him out and said she would not charge me anything. I said after you have tortured and tormented my dog the least you can do is trim him as I was still planning to pay her. She said she didn't feel like doing it and would need to muzzle him. He has had grooming done for 10 years and never needed to be muzzled. This told me she must have hurt him and now was afraid to groom him. I told her at her age (middle aged) and after bragging that she was experienced and even a trainer, she obviously did not know how to treat a dog let alone train or groom one. The owner of the shop was standing there the whole time and did not say a word to even to try to defend her or to apologize to me. I don't make a practice of writing reviews. But I am writing this to give other dog owners a WARNING so they won't make the mistake of trusting this place with their dog. read more

Called them right at opening, I'd say 8:30 in the morning. Some guy answered the phone with a "hello", I'm like, is this Barkley's Pet Spa? Took him a few seconds and he finally mumbled "yeah". I had heard from my friend that Barkley's Pet Salon was the best place to go for dog grooming. I tried it yesterday and I am So Impressed how great my two dogs looked!!! Definitely the best they have ever looked. What shock me was they didn't run for the door when I went to pick them up. That made me feel really relieved. I had heard from my friend that Mobile Grooming businesses are not regulated and anyone with a Van can buy a pair of scissors and clippers ECT. But have no accountability. I will never use a mobile groomer again. Especially after Channel 8 in North County, San Diego did a story on September 28th 2022 about the abuse and untrained groomer Your Neighborhood Groomer (3rd name change by the owner because he was shut down do to hurting dogs) I highly recommend Barkley's and I give 5 stars. They are pretty booked up so plan ahead. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment. It was worth the wait. read more

Another great experience getting my pups bathed and trimmed. Angie and Amanda took such good care of them, and now they look and smell beautiful once again. They're so friendly here. The office is clean, and calm, with cute old time pics on the wall in the seating area. They make leaving my old arthritic girl and big goofy boy with them a very comfortable proposition. So fluffy. All brushed smooth. Shiny and soft. I think the dogs really enjoyed it, and feel better too. They deserve it, and the best part is that it was INEXPENSIVE. read more

Unfortunately this groomer did not continue to provide quality service. Huge turnover with staff. Many times we would arrive and would be told we had no appointment even though I had take a day off work and scheduled 4 dogs to be groomed. Today I left this shop in tears. I just had a terrible experience. I've been taking Noodles, my miniature poodle, there for haircuts for many years. This is the second time they've messed up his haircut, and this was by far the worst haircut he's ever had. Today they called me to see if I could bring Noodles in earlier because they had a bunch of cancellations. I was happy to accommodate them, but he looked terrible when I went back to pick him up. His ears went from fluffy to flat like a mouse's ears. It was awful. They charged me a total price, $65.00 plus a tip. I'm never going there again. read more
