This place is tied for first with Sonnenburg's for the best meat counter in the metro. And if the words, 'Maui Steak' are not in your vernacular, better grab the dictionary, kiddo. They're incredible. Sweet and savory off the grill, and like nothing you have tried before. We slice them on the bias, enjoy them in soft flour tortillas with sauteed onions and green pepps, and I get jiggy just thinking about it. If beef isn't your gig, they also do maui chicken and pork. All delicious. Aside from their amazing butcher shop, they have a ton of fresh produce and the place is very clean. My family has been shopping here since 1976! I buy a lot of produce here because it is extremely fresh & the prices are much better than the big chain stores. They also locally source whenever possible. People rave about the Maui steaks, but, honestly, all of their meat is TOP quality! They currently have beef blade roast which makes the most incredibly delicious pot roast!!! This cut is hard to find & will disappear from Bargain Giant if sales don't pick up. I'm starting to stockpile my freezer! Also, they have the best tasting ground beef, pork sausage, Italian sausage, pork steaks, pork loin, etc. They also have Thuringer, which for the unenlightened, is kind of like a cross between bologna & cotton salami, but so much better! And, I love using their smoked ham shanks for split pea or any type of bean soup. BTW cook the Maui riblets on the barbecue to bring out the best flavor! This place has been a staple here in the 99207 community for over 40 years. Not only do they still offer wonderful fresh produce grown from farmers here but they still have the small community feel even though it's had to change and adapt throughout the decades. If you've ever stopped by here as a child, one of the cashiers have been here for over 4 decades!! My mommy loves the fresh produce here and they also offer a wonderful butcher section with good quality meats!! They will always be the home of Western Family to me!! read more

This spot is such a little gem. Being the Queen of Hillyard and all that. Run down on the outside but on the inside there is some fresh meat and butcher boxes and of course, the famous maui steaks. I love those steaks so much it just is such a treat to come to a small mom and pop type grocery store and get all the things needed and so forth. The produce section is fresh and all the necessities are well laid out. But seriously try the meats, and especially the maui steak. They are closed Sundays and scream local love all over the place. read more

I shop here pretty often because I live within walking distance. I love that you can buy meat of any amount rather than at big chain supermarkets they are usually in preportioned amounts. The only complaint I have is that the deli workers aren't wearing hairnets. But I'm a germaphobe so that's probably a Me problem. However the meats are delicious and always fresh. All the employees are really nice and they remember you if you've gone in multiple times. They also give you free cash back and will give you any bills you need. That was extremely helpful when I rode the bus and needed only ones. You'd be surprised how many places won't give you ones. I just called them to ask if they had milk and the guy who answered the one (think his name was Kevin) was so nice it reminded me to write a review. read more

A local hidden gem. I used to walk here all the time as a kid to buy all sorts of candy and the workers were never rude to us like some other bigger chain stores. As an adult, I appreciate that this place is as local as it gets, they are even closed on Sundays which I'm sure their employees appreciate! This is one of the very few places in Spokane you can get a decently priced meat box. You can't always get every single thing on your grocery list here, but that's not really a complaint. More of a statement of us as a society being spoiled by big chain stores. I hope this place is around forever. read more

I have been going to this store since I was a little kid. This is a staple in our community. Great prices, great service and great products. Everyone is friendly. Several employees have been there for decades. Home of Maui steaks but everything in their butcher case is worth a try. You can also make your own Maui meat with their Maui sauce. Its available for purchase. When my daughter comes home to visit Spokane tap water lol (our water is best in the world to her) and Maui steaks are what she wants. read more

This has become our Favorite grocery store! The produce is better than most of the supermarkets, and the prices are amazing. Excellent fresh meat section, all you could need. You won't find any 20-ft long shelves filled with only fabric softener (or anything else), but you can find just about all your groceries here, at considerable less cost than at the Big Guys. We try to do most of our shopping here. Clerks are always helpful, and you don't get verbally assaulted every time you turn around with "welcome to [store}" "can I help you find something?", "are you finding things all right?" Another hidden gem in Hillyard. Great meat market and super friendly staff. They always have the best and best priced produce, even in the winter. They have great sales and clearanced food (close to expiring, but usually a couple weeks out)...the sweet maui sauce is amazing...you can buy ribs and steaks and chicken marinated in it, or just buy a jug of it and cook with it yourself. The meat spot is almost always busy, so if you come in and there isn't a line, take advantage of it and go buy some meat. Cheapest eggs and milk in town, regularly. Love this place. I miss living walking distance from here, but it doesn't matter what neigjborhood Ilive in, this is hands down my favorite little market. read more
