I like the smell of wood, paint and varnish. I like the really tall shelves. I like the kitchen and bathroom units that are on display - a great setting to play house as a child. In fact, when I was a child I would also race around trying to find that aisle that had the doorbells all set up on a wall, wired and ready to be pressed. They don't seem to have them these days, perhaps because they cottoned on that children such as I could spend many a happy hour pressing all of them while their parents strolled around looking at paint. Happy days. This store is cool, fully stocked and the staff are super-friendly and helpful. They even have a lovely Laura Ashley section upstairs, the stuff is soooo beautiful! I have been here a good few times since moving north of the river, for various home improvement bits 'n' bobs and always been able to pick up what I need.

We popped in to get ourselves a couple of deck chairs for the garden, to make the most of the sunshine. It's set out like every other Homebase - paints, varnishes, wallpapers, random home accessories, and garden bits downstairs. Bathrooms, kitchens etc on the mezzanine, plants outside. Got a pack of two really comfy wooden recliners for £99! Bargain!

We came here to look at tiles (we were pretty sure we wanted some from topps tiles next door, but it doesn't hurt to look around and check other places first!!) However as this place was massive, and my boyfriend's parents had driven us here, we took advantage of the space in their car, and bought a few other bits and bobs that we really needed. I now have beautiful new bins...and LED light bulbs to brighten up our flat. I really liked the selection of habitat goods...I didn't even know Homebase and habitat worked together until I ventured in here. I don't think I would come back here unless I can borrow a car! There are too many cute things, and I'd never be able to carry them all home on a bus!

You pay a hefty premium for the convenience and location though, so be aware that it might well be much cheaper elsewhere. Sometimes though, when you need that vital bit of kit but can't travel to the north circular to get it, I'm happy to pay the extra.

I…read moresay that because at most normal hardware outlets (read 'B&Q') you are served by people who seem quite inept (sure there are many that are not). Always with a smile, always with a view to actually helping you. The people are knowledgeable and will even point you toward cheaper alternatives that will do the job you have in hand just as well as the product you initially came in for. Therein lies the best part of interacting with the staff here: they want to understand the job you are doing first, and then they will sort you out with the right product. I've bought a range of fence panels, treated wood for external construction, screws and bolts of different types and even had these delivered to my home address. Great quality and service from my arrival to product delivery. I happily travel that little extra distance to go here and get my stuff.

At only 2.50 for a large roll these bags are tough not like the flimsy bags you can accidently buy from other hardware stores. I also enjoy looking around the kitchen stuff as the prices are very reasonable and they seem to have almost any kitchen item you could wish for. This store is a mix between the traditional hardware store, a garden centre and an electronic store making it a place to get most items you might need around the house. I always seem to walk out with far more than I went in for.
