Came here after several other restaurants were already full with reservations. I was expecting a really great meal based on the atmosphere and location, but sadly was disappointed. While the restaurant space is giant, the menu is limited. It has bratwurst, schnitzel, pork knuckle, and about 2 other typical German options. I ordered a dish with turkey, pepper sauce, and spatzle. My turkey was very dry and not tender. The sauce was more of a gravy and didn't have a pepper flavor but was still good. And the spatzle was slightly undercooked and chewy, but was lightly seasoned and went well with the sauce. Not a lot of flavor in the dish, it definitely needed more seasoning on the turkey. The hefeweizen beer was good though with a nice light taste. So overall, I'd recommend getting a few drinks here but try somewhere else for food if you're looking for delicious meals full of flavor. read more

Sehr Gut! Loved this place - very charming - seemingly local diners, or a local place where Germans take their foreign visitors - and HUGE portions. This place has great food and is also a brewery - unfortunately most of this review will not have the 'exact' names of the dishes I got as the entire menu was in German. Beer - i got the beer that is very dark ...haha, real helpful right? Well it was brewed in house, and went down like iced coffee! I had a good amount of that as it paired well with the local dish... For my main course i got the Crispy Skin Pork Shoulder with the Nurnberg Franksfurters and dumpling. This thing was amazing - it gave me the Meat sweats. This beer hall seemed to specifically cater to tourists. The entire place was packed with Chinese business groups in town for a trade show. The portions were huge but the meat was a bit tough. It seems that they wow you with the portions and impressive meat on bone. Great for photos and selfies but too much food and a bit too tough to realistically enjoy. read more

Loved the atmosphere in this restaurant/brewery. Their online menu didn't have Jagerschnitzel listed (which is what I had looked forward to) but our hotel desk said the food there was good so we decided to try it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to find Jagerschnitzel on the menu. It was absolutely delicious and came with spaetzel. Their house brewed beer was very good as well. This was not a good experience at all. And most of the reasons can't be associated with it being busy or anything else it's the staffs natural behaviour. This place needs a massive clear out. Let's start: Bad service, you'll be waiting ages to order or you'll get a waiter coming up to the table within ten secs of you seating down. We seen about 4 tables leave because they weren't being served. Walking in it looks great, you go down stairs to this big open area that has more rooms going off it. But it was full. Well over a few hundred people here. 200 easily. Rude speaking loud waiters: get the wrong waiter and you don't speak the local tongue you are in for a sharp bite with the waiter then walking away and not taking your order. Missed meals: again get the wrong waiters and you'll get half of what you ordered. Try to resolve that and you get blank faces. This wasn't one waiter but several who wouldn't help with the missing meal orders. And still get charged for the food. So watch that. Rubbish taken through restaurant: yes they will take the rubbish through from the kitchen to the side service area. This is a area just off the main room so half of the customers wouldn't notice this but the other half do as it gets worse with a leaking rubbish bag, yeah nice big streaks of wet stuff on the floor coming from the bags. And of course no one will clean up so as you'd expect a customer then slips, and it's still not cleaned up. I actually seen table rubbish thrown behind tables by staff inside of them holding onto to it for the kitchen bins. I presume then at the end of the night the poor low paid cleaners have to handle that mess. You'll see that you've to Pay to use the gents in the restaurant but not for ladies. Here's a good one to show staff here really ruined the night, staff actually ramming elderly customers with food carts as the main method to clear their path as they whizz from one end to the other with plates. Food avg if even that, I wouldn't recommend the food to anyone I know, we weren't joking when we finished our meals that we'd rather a visit to Burger King. steak was fatty and dishes were just slapped onto the plant. Not presentable at all. The starter assorted cheese dish was nice but at 9€ I don't think it was worth it. Think that will be my first and only visit here. Hope you find the review usual but unless you go on a very empty night or after the entire staff are replaced I wouldn't bother There is way better places than this and it's shocking this place is even open read more

Oh yes, thankfully someone nice pointed me to this place so I could check Nurnberger Rostbratwurst off on my list of regional specialties to try. The waitress' grip on English and Ugly American-style "what do you recommend" waffling was tenuous at best, but she recommended that I cover my bases with the combination dish called Frankenschmaus (tee hee), which is pork shoulder, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and potato dumplings, giant mug of beer not included. The pork shoulder was a tad dry, but the bratwurst (and, hem, the pork knuckle I tried) was very good and the beer hall atmosphere was comfortable. I've eaten several times at Barfüßer. First, this is most emphatically not a hole-in-the-wall place. It is right on the main street from the Hauptbahnhof going into the city. It is well-known by locals and tourists alike. On any given weekend the restaurant is packed, especially if there is some kind of convention at the Messezentrum. What you will find at Barfüßer is a German beer house done pretty well. There is no hostess-- find your own seat. If you arrive during the height of service and can't find a table, you'll have to ask if the empty seats at an already occupied table are free, and then enjoy some dinner conversation with the people you're now sharing a table with. Barfüßer brews its own beer, and for that reason I would highly recommend any of the house brews on draft over whatever else they have. I have had the blonde (a helles) on several occasions, and it has always been wonderful. If you're looking for a place to go and enjoy some good beer, Barfüßer would be a great choice. The food is pretty standard German home cooking. On one occasion I had roast duck with red cabbage and spätzle. It was all very good. Crispy duck skin, succulent meat, and the rotkohl (red cabbage) was the mix of sweet and sour that I love. Overall, a good meal, if a bit pricey. Barfüßer suffers from, in my opinion, two fundamental issues. One is that the restaurant is cavernous. If you come during a busy service, it can be loud. Granted, that's part of the beer hall experience, but it seems as if the owner has purposely made every effort to make his restaurant as loud and echo-y as possible. The decor is generally nice, though I've never understood why the signs hanging from the ceiling are for English pubs rather than German beer halls or gasthöfe (guest houses). The second issue is more or less tied to the business of service-- the overall level of joylessness with which the staff carry out their jobs. Make no mistake, they are always polite, efficient, unobtrusive individuals. However, in a busy service they can seem a bit joyless, most likely due to the fact that they seem to be responsible for serving large numbers of people on their own, with no apparent support from management. This restaurant is, in my opinion, a pretty slick operation designed to be as profitable as possible. It is undoubtedly successful in that endeavour. The beer is good. The food is okay. The decor isn't close to authentic, but it's at least pleasant (if somewhat confusing) to look at. You can at least ignore it while eating, which is really as far as it needs to go. However, everything is a bit expensive, and I get the impression they charge higher-than-average prices because their size and location let them get away with it. Go once or twice for the heck of it, but it's not upscale enough to be a regular special occasion place, nor does it have the intimacy and authenticity of a small restaurant that would make it deserving of being a regular hangout. read more

The last time I was here was 2007 but I'll never forget it. I used to go every weekend when I lived in Germany(Kitzingen) The beer hall itself is huge and what you (I) would think of when you imagine what a beer hall should look like. I ate there several times and the food was wonderful but the main reason I went there was to drink the beer. I have experienced many beers in my life, but no one, and I mean no one, makes it better. Disregard all the naysayers here, they simply don't know what the hell they're talking about. The Hofbrau Haus in Munich is probably Germany's most famous watering hole but when it comes to REAL GERMAN BIER, this place can't be beat !!! I only hope I can return one day !?!? read more
