Encountered a problem at this establishment a year ago, decided to give them another chance and booked 3 services for the 26 of the month. I was called by one of the owners yesterday to inform me they would not welcome my business . If I can take the higher road and be willing to forgive them and give them another chance since the waxer I like is still there ,you would think they would be happy to make amends. Obviously not, black balling a person from the establishment because of a mistake on their end is just completely insane. I came here because it is right next to where i live, at a cheaper rate, & i've heard pretty good reviews. With my regular spot being milk & honey, you know it can get expensive. I got a brazilian wax & asked if she could also wax the 1 inch spot on my thighs. The wax was quick, easy, & almost painless. The lady being very sweet with no awkward moments at all. When she was done, she left the room for me to change. While i was getting up i realized just how much wax was still stuck to my skin... enough for me to have to go home & shower. Once i went to the front desk to checkout i realized they also charged me for an upper leg wax, making my total to just under the amount i would pay at milk & honey(who doesn't charge extra for the thigh area & does a better job). This was by far the best experience I have had getting a facial. My first time made me second guess ever letting anyone other than myself touch my face, but Alyssa changed that. She made sure I was comfortable and guided me throughout the facial keeping me informed. The environment was relaxing and the young lady at the front desk was very professional and inviting. I haven't had my eyebrows waxed in a few months and needed to be seen ASAP. I'm so thankful that I called the ladies at Bare Necessities because they were able to get me in swiftly. This was my first time visiting them and from Crystal (receptionist) to Olivia (esthetician), the team was so sweet and understanding. The prices of their services are very affordable. They have plenty of parking and is located right off Richmond in the Montrose area. I would recommend them for all your waxing and spa needs. Okay so where do I start. I love BN but I came in for my first facial with them this past wknd. (My previous esthetician moved.) I had specific game plan for what I wanted and had done the research etc. Upon consultation April suggested a different treatment. The plump and firm versus the lumixyl dermalinfusion that I wanted. I explained I wanted a really deep clean because it had been almost a year since my last facial and I had experienced breakouts. I continued to feel pressured to go the plump and firm route which to me does not address the issues I stated I was coming in to address (oil/breakouts and hyperpigmentation). As an African American woman I am already leery about taking advice regarding skin care options but I decided to trust her professional opinion based on the reviews. The facial experience was good in that she did the mask and was extremely professional. She is very nice and a solid esthetician. However, if you go for a facial definitely stick to your guns or you will walk out with something that doesn't address your needs. I am not sure if the plump & firm is the facial of the month they are promoting right now or what. The low review is because I don't feel satisfied with what I got versus what I clearly stated I wanted to achieve and was willing to pay for. Stick to your guns! Don't be a pushover like I was. Just wanted to update my review from last year - still felt like this place deserved 5 stars! I tried scheduling with Emma again but she wasn't on the calendar so I schedule with Alyssa. Alyssa was nice and did an excellent job! She took her time and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole appointment. She'd regularly check in to make sure the wax wasn't too hot or to see if I needed a break. Alyssa was great and already booked her for my next appointment :) OH! And my only complaint last time was the sign blocking my view during the exit... the sign was moved back and no longer blocked my view of incoming traffic! read more

I've been coming to Bare Necessities for a little over 2 years now. The service and atmosphere of this spa is unmatched. Calming music plays in the reception area and the receptionists are always friendly and professional. The only service I've received currently has been waxing but they offer facials and spray tans as well. You must book with Mary! She is the sweetest and incredibly thorough. I've never been disappointed with her service and she goes the extra mile to ensure that you are comfortable before, during, and after your wax. First I want to say that the actual waxing service and the person that performed it was excellent. I wouldn't have any hesitation having the wax performed again in the future. My rating is 100% based on the front-office. When I called to make the appointment, I was told that they needed a credit card on-file, but assured me that I wouldn't be charged. But as soon as I gave them my credit card number, they told me that I would be charged if I showed-up even a few minutes late. When I arrived, I was given a stack of paperwork to fill out. But as soon as my esthetician was ready, I was told that I didn't need to bother filling out paperwork. And when I went to leave, I was asked "how much of a gratuity" would I like to leave? This was my first time at Bare Necessities and I really wanted to like this place because all of the great reviews, but experience with the receptionist was not so pleasant. I was 10 minutes early and at my appointment time, I asked the girl at the reception if she would be longer, and she answered back with not a "she's with a client," or anything else pleasant she gave me attitude with a "well, your appointment IS at 11 a.m." For a person working at the reception where one is kind of the face of an organization and the client's first impression, she got quite defensive and was somewhat rude. I later proceeded to ask the same girl with the check-in discount and she answered with another "WELL, you can use it next time." I recently moved to Houston and have been putting off the waxing experience because I doubted that I would find someone as talented and with the impeccable attention to detail that I'm used to. Showed up for my appointment and was pleased to see lots of parking spots available in their lot. The salon is in a cute Montrose bungalow. I was greeted upon entering. A beautiful atmosphere, with a calm scent of essential oils. They definitely followed the CDC Covid-19 guidelines, clean and sanitized space.
