Okay so where do I start. I love BN but I came in for my first facial with them this past wknd. (My previous esthetician moved.) I had specific game plan for what I wanted and had done the research etc. Upon consultation April suggested a different treatment. The plump and firm versus the lumixyl dermalinfusion that I wanted. I explained I wanted a really deep clean because it had been almost a year since my last facial and I had experienced breakouts. I continued to feel pressured to go the plump and firm route which to me does not address the issues I stated I was coming in to address (oil/breakouts and hyperpigmentation). As an African American woman I am already leery about taking advice regarding skin care options but I decided to trust her professional opinion based on the reviews. The facial experience was good in that she did the mask and was extremely professional. She is very nice and a solid esthetician. However, if you go for a facial definitely stick to your guns or you will walk out with something that doesn't address your needs. I am not sure if the plump & firm is the facial of the month they are promoting right now or what. The low review is because I don't feel satisfied with what I got versus what I clearly stated I wanted to achieve and was willing to pay for. Stick to your guns! Don't be a pushover like I was. Just wanted to update my review from last year - still felt like this place deserved 5 stars! I tried scheduling with Emma again but she wasn't on the calendar so I schedule with Alyssa. Alyssa was nice and did an excellent job! She took her time and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole appointment. She'd regularly check in to make sure the wax wasn't too hot or to see if I needed a break. Alyssa was great and already booked her for my next appointment :) OH! And my only complaint last time was the sign blocking my view during the exit... the sign was moved back and no longer blocked my view of incoming traffic! read more

I got my very first wax at Bare Necessities with April today. It was honestly the best experience I've ever had! I left feeling like a new woman. I am 36.5 weeks pregnant and wanted to get cleaned up before the baby comes and was super nervous for my bikini wax. But April made me feel so comfortable, she has a great energy about her. I've been coming to Bare Necessities for a little over 2 years now. The service and atmosphere of this spa is unmatched. Calming music plays in the reception area and the receptionists are always friendly and professional. The only service I've received currently has been waxing but they offer facials and spray tans as well. You must book with Mary! She is the sweetest and incredibly thorough. I've never been disappointed with her service and she goes the extra mile to ensure that you are comfortable before, during, and after your wax. This was my first time at Bare Necessities and I really wanted to like this place because all of the great reviews, but experience with the receptionist was not so pleasant. I was 10 minutes early and at my appointment time, I asked the girl at the reception if she would be longer, and she answered back with not a "she's with a client," or anything else pleasant she gave me attitude with a "well, your appointment IS at 11 a.m." For a person working at the reception where one is kind of the face of an organization and the client's first impression, she got quite defensive and was somewhat rude. I later proceeded to ask the same girl with the check-in discount and she answered with another "WELL, you can use it next time." For a place where they sell experience it was a pretty unpleasant one. I'm sorry to say I won't be returning to use my check-in discount. read more

I have been spoiled beyond reason because my friend in my native Oregon owns a waxing salon and hooks me up. I recently moved to Houston and have been putting off the waxing experience because I doubted that I would find someone as talented and with the impeccable attention to detail that I'm used to. SURPRISE, in comes Brittany!!! She is FANTASTIC, hard working, quick, intelligent, talented and a HOOT to talk with. Not only did she do a thorough job she made the experience fun! She also made sure to tell me about a couple of products that will help my common ingrown hair issues but didn't pressure me. She assured me they would be available on my next visit. She also made sure I booked my next appointment for a month out in order to get a discounted "maintenance" price. Another note - I'm a tall, chubby giant thing but that didn't phase her at all. First I want to say that the actual waxing service and the person that performed it was excellent. I wouldn't have any hesitation having the wax performed again in the future. My rating is 100% based on the front-office. When I called to make the appointment, I was told that they needed a credit card on-file, but assured me that I wouldn't be charged. But as soon as I gave them my credit card number, they told me that I would be charged if I showed-up even a few minutes late. When I arrived, I was given a stack of paperwork to fill out. But as soon as my esthetician was ready, I was told that I didn't need to bother filling out paperwork. And when I went to leave, I was asked "how much of a gratuity" would I like to leave? Apparently they assume that I have to leave a gratuity. (I was happy to tip for the excellent service, but it was annoyingly presumptive to assume) read more

So I started looking for a better place. After reading reviews from several sources I thought I would give Bare Necessities at least one try. I knew immediately this place was different from that first place. The staff is wonderful, they made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. They take the time necessary and seem to really care to make it as painless as they possibly can considering what I am there to do. A wonderful, locally-owned spa. I had decided last year to finally get on a facial regimen, as I am approaching my 40s. I was a little intimidated because I don't have a lot of experience with mud, serums, peels, etc., but every esthetician has been so welcoming and sweet and answered all of my questions without any pretentiousness. They listen to your concerns and are willing to modify their typical treatment on the next visit if you're not seeing the results you expect. I do the Brazilian was as well as different facials she recommends. My skin looks and feels amazing after our visits. She is so knowledgeable on all of the products and asks so many questions about your skin to make sure she is doing the proper facials and using the proper skin care products. Showed up for my appointment and was pleased to see lots of parking spots available in their lot. The salon is in a cute Montrose bungalow. I was greeted upon entering.
