We stumbled across this neighbourhood gem in Miami Beach. From the moment we walked in the door of this trendy, candle lit, Spanish wine and tapas bar, it was apparent that this restaurant was a local hot spot...there were no tourists in site. The restaurant offers an extensive wine and gin list offering a wide variety of unique takes on gin cocktails. I am not very familiar with Spanish food so I can't speak for the authenticity of this restaurant but I can say that the food was delicious. We started with the mixed green salad and roasted beets. In general mixed green salad can be pretty boring, however, the salad at Barceloneta had a bright dressing that was well balanced with acid and sweet notes. The roasted beets were equally satisfying and displayed on top of a goat cheese cream and adorned with crushed pistachios. Between the salads and meat courses we had the Spanish tortilla. According to the waiter this is a quintessential Spanish taps dish of potato and egg. We agreed that it was reminiscent of a Jewish potato kugel. It was surprisingly light and not oily like most potato pancakes can be. For the meat course we had the roast chicken, steak and Branzino. All of the meat dishes were prepared well and their accompaniments made the dishes memorable. The steak came along side a potato purée that was silky and smooth with perfect seasoning. It was much more viscous compared to a traditional mashed potato and gave a unique texture to the hearty steak. The chicken had a crispy exterior, juicy interior and was on a bed of wild mushroom truffle sauce. We agreed that the sauce was unforgettable and something the restaurant should consider bottling to sell. Overall the experience at Barceloneta was memorable and a great introduction to Spanish eats and drinks. If you want to have a drink with some locals in Miami Beach go to this resto...you won't be disappointed. read more

2 of us came here for "date night" on a Monday at around 9:30. We were told they were running a special with all bottled wines 50% off. We ordered a bottle of monte real which cost us $30 instead of $60 on this night, and we had several tapas/small plates including the oxtail, brussel sprouts and croquetas, and the arroz caldoso which was a larger dish. I really liked everything except for the arroz caldoso. I'm not a big fan of stronger flavored seafood and this was a little much for me. Also, it was very salty and after several forkfuls I had to put my utensils down. With tax and the included 18% gratuity, we split the bill evenly and it came to $60.49 each. My primary critical comment would be that, IMO, the menu is quite limited here. While we were able to find 3 or 4 dishes we both liked, not many items on their menu really jumped out at me or caused me to say "Wow, I really want that!" read more

Last night me and my boyfriend had a wonderful time in Barceloneta! We didn't have a reservation, but since it was early evening, they had plenty free tables. We took meat and cheese board, ham croquetas, huevos rotos, langoustines, hanger steak and lamb chops. All was delicious and cooked to perfection. For drink we had bottle of Spanish dry white wine, and bottle of Vega Sicilia red for the main course. We finished our great dinner with a glass of Spanish brandy. Waitress was nice and always on top of everything, with great food recommendations. Prices are ok, I would say a little pricey for some dishes. The food was great Can't quite remember the names of the food we ate but the Brussel sprouts, patatas, and yummy sort of bruschetta, were all great and the staff was nice. They really take advantage of their outdoor seating which is nice but it can get a bit crowded still ( too many people seated too close together). Not every diner wore a mask ( obviously because they're eating) even after they were done eating. They were also allowed to smoke at their seats which is horrible and makes it hard for others ( like myself) to breathe. Minus the inconsiderate diners, I would definitely dine here again. read more

The food is remarkably fresh. We started with the oysters. So good, so fresh. The octopus tentacle was fresh tender and a lot of flavor. The escargot and rabbit sausage was a melody of flavors. So unique, but everything is here. (apparently the water gives you super powers) the mussels in champagne sauce was amazing. I really think they have some very talented chefs. Our server, Alex was an affable guy who told us his favorites, and he was right except for the French Toast dessert. It was flavorless and uninspiring. To the owners of the Pubbelly Chain, firstly FU you owe me $4.00 for your 1.00 water. You talents far out way your business ethic. Sad, really sad! Food great, your chefs great! We got the pleasure of being invited to the pre-launch party at Barceloneta where we merrily drank and ate. The restaurant is the latest venture from the the Pubbelly posse, right around the corner from Pubbelly and Pubbelly Sushi near Purdy. Besides the raw bar, Barceloneta itself has a similar vibe as the other Pubbelly properties: chalk boards on the walls featuring menu items and specials, open kitchens and great music selections. They offer an expansive wine list and alcohol menu with refreshing cocktails like the "Albahaca", which contains muddled strawberries, chambord, grand marnier, basil and cracked fresh pepper. This third restaurant is all about Spanish Tapas but they do it w/ a unique twist. For example, instead of Cod Croquettes you're served "Whipped Codfish" with freshly baked sourdough (grill marks and all) = amazing! "Calamari a la Romana" fried calamari with squid ink aioli (a tad salty yet very delightful). In addition, we had the "Gambas" prawns with Chocolate picada and garlic as well as the "Cazuela de Mejillones" mussels in a saffron rouille, tomato and garlic sofregit. We finished our meal with the "Torrejas", a spanish version of French Toast w/ berry infused vanilla ice cream. (drool over the pics) And, to top it all off, the service was amazing (at any of their properties really) from the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave. From the large array of tasty (and NOT so tasty) options South Beach has to offer, I decided to venture to Sunset Harbor in hopes of a bougie lunch. It was my first time at Barceloneta and although it was fairly empty on an early Friday afternoon, I found that very appealing given the extra personal attention. The food was immediately imported straight from Barcelona upon my order. For my light lunch I had the gazpacho, a mozzarella and ham sandwich, the beet salad and just a few langoustines... I'm watching my calories ;) Everything was made to perfection, the presentation alone almost immediately satisfied my hunger. The gazpacho complemented by the Spanish "grilled cheese" was the perfect upscale rendition of everyone's childhood favorite, I definitely recommend ordering those side by side. The beet salad was the perfect balance to my gorgeous plate of langoustines, which could easily compete for the Miss Universe of Crustaceans 2015. All in all, the only reason I did not go for the "Wooohooo! As good as it gets!" 5 star review was due to the ambiance of the outdoor patio area. Although I understand the construction is a bit of a nuisance, they could still do a little more work on making the outdoors feel like a bit of Barcelona as opposed to a bit of Detroit. We've been HUGE fans of Barceloneta for years now. It's the ultimate package: indoor and outdoor seating, friendly and knowledgeable staff (thanks to owner/manager Manuel Suarez Inclan), delicious food that is both authentic and innovative (thanks to Chef Juliana Gonzalez), fantastic signature cocktails, a great wine list, and a parking garage just steps away. In fact, we love it (and them) so much, we are having our wedding rehearsal dinner there in February! Three of our favorite items on the menu which we pretty much order almost every time we go: Bikini C24 Sandwich- Iberico ham, mozzarella, tetilla, truffle grilled sandwich; Albahaca Signature Cocktail- Basil, strawberries, grand marnier, wodka, crème de mure, black pepper, cranberry juice; Pimientos del Padron- Shishito peppers, valdeon cheese, walnuts. The grilled calamari is also to die for. Actually, so is the fried calamari with black squid ink sauce. Sometimes they have fresh Snapper- first come, first served- which is the best you'll ever have. Prepared in a lemon butter caper sauce. (You won't find this on the menu, you have to ask for it.) The Iberico croquetas are also phenomenal (creamy iberico ham fritters, piquillo aioli). Last but not least, the Barceloneta Pulpo a Feira (octopus, fingerling potato foam, piquillo emulsion, chorizo, tomato confit, pimenton de la vera) is so good, we recommend ordering a warm baguette for the sauce. Now, BRACE YOURSELVES, Barceloneta is boasting what we believe to be the best Happy Hour in South beach: Specials run from 5pm to 8pm, which is great. 2 for 1 house cocktails are great, especially since they use quality house liquor (their vodka is Wodka, for example). All the bar bites are delicious. We are also big fans of the pan con tomate con tortilla as well as the oysters which are part of happy hour, as well as one of their signature cocktails, the Maracuya (Wodka, passion fruit pulp, canton ginger cranberry juice, chili flakes) which is sweet and spicy and delicious. It's warm and cozy. The kind of place you'd go to on a date or meet up with a few friends to chat over wine and tapas. We had two waiters the evening I dined there, which I didn't quite understand why. One waiter was friendly and on point. The other not so much. Let's just say his nose was high up his forehead and my sister had to remind him FOUR times to bring her her cocktail. As for the tapas--they were okay. We ordered the tortilla de patatas, fried calamari, croquettas, and manchego with quince paste. The fan favorite was the manchego cheese that perfectly complimented our tempranillo. However, the calamari was less then stellar. One thing I don't approve of is that they actually charge you for bread. It's a Spanish eatery in Miami. The vino flowed while my taste buds danced around the delights provided by Barceloneta. My friends and I began our night here at the bar, where my savvy local friends chatted up the bar staff en español, while I attempted to recall my limited Spanish vocabulary. I was so mesmerized by the decor and the very local yet swanky vibe that I didn't realize that the wait staff had begun to assemble around me. I looked down and realized that I was taking loads of photos with my new iPhone camera lens, and they all wanted to talk about it. For some reason, their willingness to talk to me and be friendly made me feel right at home, and this tone carried throughout my evening. Thoroughly doused with wine and tapas, I found myself wistfully remembering my time in Barcelona last fall, and then realized, I have all I loved about Barca right here in Miami- minus the passport and cross-Atlantic travel. Fresh (is there a word for the freshest of fresh?) local ingredients artfully combined by expert chefs dazzled me. If you want to spend the night in Spain. Get in your car and drive to 1400 20th street Miami Beach, FL. The food will transport you straight to Barcelona. I opted to do the Chefs tasting menu $49.99 per person with a minimum of 2. With the tasting menu you can select 6 tapas (which I loved because I can't choose just 1)! Yes, I'm indecisive by nature. I started off with the Maracuya Martini which was a passion fruit cocktail with just the right amount of spice. For Tapas my highlights were the Pan con Tomate which tasted similar to a bruschetta but not as heavy. Just the right amount of tomato and garlic ratio. The Chorizo a la Sidra was sweet and smokey. The black rice was like a black paella, it's an acquired taste. I am thankful my taste buds loved it. The Rossejat was also a rice dish. This one is loaded with clams, it's a 5 star seafood dish. The escargot with the puff pastry was probably my second favorite tapas dish the sausage is the real winner here and really elevates this dish. The show stopper was Pulpo a la Feira. I can't even begin to explain the explosion of flavors this dish has. Between the chorizo, potato foam and piquillo emulsion something magical happens in your mouth. We went this weekend for the first time ever and let me tell you we were very disappointed. First off, trying to place an order was a task in itself. Second, out of the party of 9 of us, two of us order old fashions. What we got was not an old fashion it was like a Long Island ice tea with a splash of whiskey and tons of ice. We returned them of course. I asked for a dirty vodka martini to replace that god awful drink. I waited 15 minutes to get my martini and when it finally arrived I was surprised with the disgusting taste of what seemed like a blend of gin and vodka (basically it tasted like salty pine cone). Honestly I don't think they rinsed the shaker out well enough. At that point I got up myself and went straight to the bar and watched them make my drink. The bartender was nice and accommodating . Overall, the food was good. The escargot and octopus were the best out of all the dishes. Still it wasn't anything out of this world. After we were brought our bill we noticed we were charged $10 for the baguettes that they brought to the table. We never asked for bread! Why would you charge someone for something that was not ordered? Usually at a restaurant if they bring out bread without one asking for it, people will assume it is complimentary. We spoke to the manager and he had it removed. Also I highly suggested that if you want to order a double of anything that you just don't. Visited Barceloneta for happy hour and dinner on a Tuesday evening. Ordered the Pan Con Tomate, Patatas Bravas, Beef Tartare Slider, Chorizo A La Sidra, and Arroz Negro off the happy hour menu and the Barceloneta Pulpo A Feira and Esqueixada off the main menu. Quality Barceloneta follows a tapas style, so we ended up ordering seven different dishes to try. The evening began with the Pan Con Tomate, soft bread with grated tomato, garlic, and olive oil. A small bite, but a nice way to start a meal. Next came out the Patatas Bravas, potatoes with alioli and spicy tomato sauce. It was one of the more forgettable dishes, but would be a decent choice if consuming alcohol. This was followed by the Beef Tartare Slider, a small pile of beef tartare placed on a soft and salted bun. Another fine item, but nothing to write home about. Then came out the Chorizo A La Sidra, Spanish chorizo and valderon cheese in a sweet sauce of apples and cider. I loved this dish, which melded the spicy chorizo flavor with strong cheese bits and then this sweet dressing. The last happy hour dish we ordered was the Arroz Negro, black squid ink rice with pieces of squid and a langoustine on top. The texture of some of the squid pieces was strange, but overall I thought the flavor was excellent. From the main menu we wanted to try the Esqueixada, wahoo crudo with tomato, pearl onion, black olive dust, in a sherry vinagrette and lemon zest. An average crudo dish, which looked tastier than it tasted. The fish just came out flat and the texture was very strange. I also felt like there was too much tomato. Finally, we had the Barceloneta Pulp A Feira, octopus in a potatofoam with bites of chorizo, peppers, and tomato. It was a very fun and tasty dish, well worth going off the happy hour menu to order. Quantity Barceloneta is a tapas restaurant, so expect to order lots of small plates. That is perfect for me as I love to try lots of different items and get a bite of everything. I would say three or four dishes are needed per person. Value We ended up arriving with about fifteen minutes left in happy hour, and I was pleasantly surprised that the staff not only let us know, but made sure to get our order in quick. In addition to solid drink deals, the happy hour menu contains around eight food items each a few dollars off the normal menu price. Dishes range widely in price, but expect anywhere from $10 to $20 for most items not on happy hour. Ambiance Barceloneta has been a staple in the Sunset Harbour area for quite some time. Nestled between Lucali and the Pubbelly restaurants, Barceloneta is another beautiful yet different eating establishment for the area. It is one of the restaurants that was greatly impacted by the changes to the area to combat flooding, so it is a little below ground. The space has a wrap-around outdoor patio and then plenty of indoor seating. It was a very pleasant evening so we decided to sit outside. Along the open window of the restaurant they have a long couch with small tables. They also have assorted high tops and tables. I would caution that the outdoor area seems to attract a good amount of smokers. Inside the space is very cute and rustic. With a hip style and a relatively open kitchen, the space seems to take classic Spanish styles and add in industrial touches. They played upbeat house music, which set a nice scene for happy hour. Crowd On a nice evening the outside area was very popular and we snagged the last table. However, about thirty minutes after happy hour ended many more seats opened up. In an area with so many restaurants, Barceloneta seems to have really resonated with locals. Almost every person walking-by, whether they stopped for food or not, seemed to know someone eating or working at the restaurant. Service I may have become too jaded, I assumed arriving near the end of happy hour the staff would not say anything and just delay until the specials were over. I could not have been more wrong, as the waiter quickly brought out the specials and said to focus on it first before diving into the other menus as only a few minutes were left. That refreshing approach, especially on the beach, towards customers was incredible. Parking Sitting outside we watched as numerous cars did all sorts of crazy stunts for parking. Driving the wrong way, parking the incorrect direction on the street, and throwing flashers on in the middle of the road. It was all mystifying considering a public garage is just feet down the road with cheaper rates than the street spots. Extra Barceloneta has good food and excellent service at very affordable prices, especially during happy hour. Not every dish was perfect, but they were all solid and with tapas not every dish needs to be perfect. I feel an often overlooked spot in Sunset Harbour, Barceloneta deserves some more love. read more

Came here yesterday for Sunday brunch. They have a $25 open bar deal if you care for mimosas, sangria, bloody marys or draft beer with your brunch. The balance of cava (assuming cava since this is a Spanish-focused restaurant) to orange juice was great. The bloody mary was a gazpacho bloody mary, and I pretty much fell in love, but could only handle one since it was pretty rich. We shared the shishito peppers with the valdeon cheese sauce, which were perfect. My frittata was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend said that the croque monsieur had a fluffy, ham and cheese interior, and was nice and crispy on the outside. He added a fried egg on top for an extra $3. Great place to go with a group of people to share tapas. We got a few tapas (Brussels sprouts, chorizo, flatbread, etc) as well as the vegan paella. Lots of flavor in all the food. They also have unique cocktails. I order the limonada açaí and the lychee martini! The dessert was ok, nothing too special. The service was lagging a bit but it was Friday night.
